  1. And my ❤️ goes FL>0 ! thanks for taking the time to log in and comment. BareSkin35- D8 [ Sleepwalker level 8] My last torch brings me safely to the waterfall, no hyporisk despite 3 attempts at fire. After snapping 2 rabbits, dilemma: Am I stupid enough to go back to the farmstead with the smellies? The moonlight gives perfect visibility and no winds: I’ll try my luck. At worse I’ll drop them on my way and come back later. Of course there is already no meat on it anymore, I promptly sawed, cooked and eat it right away. "Very high" calorie intake of SW8/deadman is really something. I get very nice 42% torches before leaving under mushroom influence. I follow the river bed, exchanging situational awareness for wind protection. This is not my usual style, it feels strange. But health is too precious, I’ll gladly exchange a rabbit to avoid the least bit of hyporisk. Back at the farmstead, I close the door and think this match has been nicely spent, and it makes me very glad. I immediately harvest the 4 pelts and 2 guts before going to sleep a bit inside in dawn light. Hacksaw for the guts, barehands for the pelts. Since I already have a Tuke, have 4 rabbits pelts instead of 3 is nice: I still have no gloves. It’s been a productive night. I’ll sleep 6h until warm afternoon, the goal will be to… eat, obviously, like usual in sleepwalker mode. Surprise surprise, the weather is awful again. Pleasant Valley. The winds die later, I head toward the Tower. My plan was Rural today, but the winds come from there and it’s a very loooong way. I find a dead rabbit near the waterfall, I must have dropped it before because of hearing footprints. I lose the well fed buff 9 minutes before finishing its cooking. This buff isn’t of any importance anyway, except for a reminder of “you’re beginning to lose your precious health”. My food is over, my fuel too. Howling while walking climbing o the Tower with my smelly carcass. They wait for me. Arriving at the tower, I really hope for nice clothes, mainly boots and pants you usually find there. The carcass is not here (is there any carcass spot anyway or am I daydreaming?), I’m disappointed and very hungry. The loot is meh: driving gloves, the static coffee, wool socks, white sardines and tomatoes, yellow dog food, no bread in the toaster, sewing kit. No pants, no boots, no coat, crap! I shout all my anger to the walls. New dilemma: do I sleep starved or try the sardines? On the 20% dog food, it’s written “Better than starving. Probably”. Not sure about that. But I have lots of reishis, I’m already exhausted and next to a bed anyway. The alternative is to push to the nearby cave where I could find a carcass, but I’m already so exhausted… and of course a blizzard kicks in as I wonder about my life choices. I eat all the food I have, strangely not get poisoned, so no reishi before sleeping. 1133 calories left. Glad I had a can opener.
  2. True, positive FL is so rare I can't remember the last time it happened to me. Congratz on your Keg Stand btw, very impressive!
  3. Deadman has all the other nasty effects, for example the worst settings for weather (more blizzards, more often, etc) and wolves (more numerous, more agressive?) For difference between level 0 to level 8, it's about the needs, I refer you to the same post I mentioned before, and which is also linked in all entries of this journal, in the day title. If you felt sleepwalker temperatures to be easier than loper, maybe it's just before you're getting better? It's the same as Loper.
  4. Come'on, air is not that heavy. Sorry for my physicist 2 cents, I couldn't resist! I agree drinking snow is stupid unwise from a warmth POV, but basically you end up there because of dehydration, and that solves the dehydration problem. Creating a bigger one, granted, but still. As a ski instructor (been there myself), when pupils 'eat snow', it's still a bit funny, right?
  5. Good thing for your health you didn't end up reading the first Bareskins' ! Eery one needs a good sleep! I'm not criticizing, I did the same when discovering the Snowball. I still remember that day, gladly TLD is niche, my workplace firewall let me have a very unproductive day. Anyway, thanks for the praise and interaction, really. It's oftentimes a bit of loneliness reporting the journals for 'nobody'. Here's the next episode, as a reward! Be careful - she's sharp! I sometimes like it rough... Feeling alive does not come cheap these days. BareSkin35- D6 [ Sleepwalker level 8] Mid-morning, after a nice 12h rest, I head outside to finish the deer (guts+pelt). It’s too windy, so I harvest the rabbit guts before the weather calms down. The bear is on patrol, I’m cautious to start my job when he shows me its butt. Typical Pleasant Valley Afternoon FL-9, I go to the waterfall for a third rabbit pelt, and under the rope for one more deer skin. Only half a kilo on the deer, disappointed. Missed all the rabbits except one I immediately dropped for security but couldn't find back. Too exhausted to look for it more, and I hate backpedaling. The path is clear on my way back in aurora sounds. Buddy Bear still here. Didn't turn green yet. I repair my wool socks under electric light. For the fun of it, mainly. BareSkin35- D7 [ Sleepwalker level 8] Today’s mission is to get one more rabbit pelt near the waterfall, and optionally some sticks. I eat my last canned food, it’s gonna be another problem soon, only 10 cattails left (from the waterfall). I craft a snare with the cured gut I found. Having a snare can be a life saver, plus I have the 6 others guts needed for mitts+boots. Mid-afternoon weather is horrible (as usual), nothing much I can do except slowly starving. 5 stalks and 30% stomach left. 6 blizzards in 7 days… Read a bit of Wilderness Kitchen in the Farmstead porch before going to sleep… or not! At 11 PM the winds die, the light is quite nice, I go chase my next rabbit pelts in FL-15 moonlight, since I spent the day doing nothing I still have a lot of “awakeness”. It's cold enough to make me decide to spend a match immediately, just for the warmth it provides. Lost this habit with previous update since it was bugged. At midnight the weather clears up even more, the rabbits have absolutely no chance and join me in my survival adventures.
  6. Thanks! No idea, for now I'm busy sleepwalking, but taking Cinderella to HRV could be fun since I don't know this map.
  7. BareSkin35- D4 [Sleepwalker level 8] I wake up in strong winds, pre-blizzard weather. I still start my outside fire, praying they don’t turn. The mission is to cook the rabbit, 40min of luck would be enough. Once eaten, the calorie situation is still critical: 13 cattails left. Mid-morning, the weather turns bad, but I get 2 rabbits. You can’t get everything, right? I lose 5% health for those calories, not sure it’s a good tradeoff. While harvesting them, I find a well hidden Granola bar I immediately smash into my mouth. This is how you chase rabbit. Take advantage of their naiveness. Noon, time for a fire (3 fails at 60% chance) to cook the rabbit, warm up a tea and get going in the warm hours, direction the Red Barn. Of course 10 minutes before the fire dies, a blizzard kicks in. Very Pleasant indeed. I’m protected so I decide to babysit my fire to make water (never have too much), and very nice 42% torches, hoping for a short blizzard. 3 days, 3 blizzards, crap clothes, I don’t feel that lucky… 2h of babysitting later, I’ve cooked all my teas I have 3L of water:, I abandon that idea of a short blizzard: it’s dusk, and anyway I’m too tired. 3h later (9PM) it’s even worst, I’d be facing the winds. Blizzard ends at 10PM, but the fog doesn’t lift: being too brave, I’d die lost in PV. 9 stalks left, and 40% of stomach. BareSkin35- D5 [ Sleepwalker level 8] Around 2AM the fog lifts a bit, I run for the barn, with my torch. FL-19. After lighting the barrel with my dying lit torch, starting water, I pull a new torch for the lootz: 1 cured gut and a stim are the only but nice finds upstairs. I wish I’d find Catherine. Before going downstairs, I notice a very nicely hidden dog 76% food can. Ground floor: I mistake a downed fire barrel for bedroll (no comments: when you really want one, you see one), whetstone, CATHERINE, my dear! It’s been a long time! I hug her. If only I knew I’d find a cured gut, I’d have harvested rabbit pelts. Once my tempbar is up, it’s 4AM but there’s no wind and no fog: I drink a reishi and run to the Farmstead. Everything goes fine, this warm bonus is really nice. At the Farmstead, there’s a deer carcass: I must decide quickly, but since I love my matches and since it’s the cold hours, I start the fire nearby and begin getting meat with Catherine. I drop it immediately, as I know I’m in a bear territory and I don’t hear that much wolves. Maybe for a reason. I’m really nervous but everything goes as planned. But of course it’s pleasant valley so my 3.5h fire is killed 30min later, I babysit the fire a bit to finish cooking the last steak, which is the most important, and run back to the basement. I’m exhausted but still loot the place while waiting to warm up a bit before going to sleep upstairs: 12 matches, cured leather, second quality tools (first at Skeeter’s), antibiotics again, 17% sports socks. I deserved a good sleeping now. Loot upstairs in the house: dress shirt better than my plaid one, wool socks, new jeans, 3 canned food, cooking pot, crappy sports vest again. Still no gloves or coat.
  8. The Sleepwalking modes Interloper-style go from 0 to 9. The sub-interloper flavours have not been named or numbered. 0 is the easiest. Level 8 is the hardest, arguably the level 9 is not a sleepwalker, since there is no recovery at all. All the updated codes for current version are here: http://www.hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/21679-bored-of-interloper-try-sleepwalking/?do=findComment&comment=152307
  9. BareSkin35- D2 (in-game journal) [Sleepwalker level 8] At around 3AM I wake up in a blizzard. Again. I have to start my fire too soon, it’s not good. I need 3.5h to get positive FL. I don’t have to regret not harvesting the rabbit before, since anyway the second spot will be available for at least 5h. I patiently wait for the meat to thaw. Cook the rabbit, and also some teas for when I’ll be leaving. At 7 AM, the fire is killed and I have to baby sit it. Only 9 sticks left for babysitting, let’s hope it gets us through this cold morning blizzard. Lost 2h worth of fire, but the cold is the main enemy here. On the lake, the wolf is on duty today, he must wonder where did all the cattails go. I think of times when I would just have died in my bed with such a bad weather. The best temperatures give me FL-14, not that great, my clothes are crap, really. But I need to move, or I'll be dead soon. Pure nothingness in the bunker. Like, really, it’s void, not even full of crap. Took cold damage on the trip, down to 80%. Sleep 1h for short warmup, then outside to the stove, for filling up tempbar before leaving, and making tea. I don’t want to spent the night here, I died like this in another life. I earn a second recycled can for my efforts. Jackpot: 12 matches in the backpack! But it’ll be dusk very soon, I have maybe 2hr of light left. Farmstead, barn, Dodger’s? Hard choice. My main problem is clothing, so I should hit farmstead soon. FL-14, Grandma's fog and I have a tea ready: let’s try to make it to the Red Barn! The time I spend looting Point of disagreement, is wasted, since I find no matches (1 candy bar tho). More than half tempbar is empty already, it’s obviously to late for my clothing status, so I abort the plan and come back to the nearest bed, the bunker. Eating cattails stalks in my rags, sleep 6h. I decide it’ll be Skeeter’s for Dodger’s. I need the closest bed. BareSkin35- D3 [Sleepwalker level 8] Midnight, drink my 2 sodas. Sleep until rested (1AM). At 4AM I head outside for a dawn fire. The weather is not cold enough to really benefit a bonus: AT-25. At noon I leave for Skeeter’s and make it to the basement just before freezing: 1 dog food, 2 cedars, antibiotics, 1 more sewing kit, and the cloth I came for: that’s a poor hoodie. At 3PM I’m at 40% tempbar, I run to the rope, goat the second part to Dodger’s, I take 1% cold damage because I snap a rabbit before entering. I find antibiotics (again, would have preferred tramadol), and more importantly curtains and a bed. It’s dusk when I finish harvesting the curtains and the meat, I’m only at 25% tempbar thanks to poor clothing: I’ll have to spend the night in here. Pleasant Valley is so huge. I got my goating license, officer. The place gives nice sticks and shrooms stocks (5 teas), and I repair the jeans twice to 96% (1fail). But I don’t manage to snap other rabbits, they’re gone after my 1h pause in the Cabin. I get Well Fed while looking for rabbits in the midnight light, to no avail. 6h of sleeping bring me in the coldest hours.
  10. It all makes sense. That's exactly why in never do the hatchet: I never chop woodpieces. Faced with the same problem, I went the bow path. Learned the hard way how to use it. Namely, starvation.
  11. BareSkin35- D1 [Sleepwalker level 8] My preferred one. Scientific reality. Could have been statistically better. - Spawn in TWM at midnight just above the MHut, grab 4 shrooms and run for shelter in very poor visibility due to snow+fog that immediately drops on me -I’m lucky, no howling from the lake. Honestly, if a wolf was here I couldn’t see him between the snowflakes. I run to cross the lake - Grab a stick before entering, for tinder. It’s FL-10 in the hut and find a crap vest, so I immediately proceed to making fire , drop 2 cedars, and jump in the bed to clear hyporisk. - Nice 42% tuke in the hatch, the usual sewing kit. Grab a 24% torch… no luck - Starting in TWM with a blizzard is really not that easy. Wonder how I will survive the morning, since it’s 3 AM and I have no fuel left. I couldn't even full my tempbar without going outside for sticks. - before the fire dies, the blizzard have the good idea to die as well, that’ll be a huge help since my tempbar starts to effectively fill up -I tear down my socks to repair my tuke - I head outside to find some sticks and to extend the fire duration. Can’t see a thing, but thankls to some snowballing attempts I manage somehow to exchange my tempbar for 15sticks. -I wait for the fire to die to check to temperature: FL-6 at 5AM, it should make it, I immediately jump into the +5° bed for 1h sleep: fine, lost only 10% of tempbar. 1 more hour, still 75% of tempbar, I’m good, I continue sleeping in 1h chunks until I can’t rest anymore. Gamble your life: episode 1 BareSkin35- D2 [Sleepwalker level 8] Realize I kept the @tulkawen writing style... I'll go back to sentences. Blizzard mid-morning, the temperatures drop. I try to mitigate damage by staying in the bed Mid -afternoon, the second blizzard stops (that's 2 in 12 hours) but I have only half my temp bar, FL-8 outside but if I don’t leave, I’ll have to spend one more night here. This is what I choose to do, since anyway if I go now I wont make it the the Farmstead, and I’ll die from dehydration in the bunker (been there, done that). I head to the cattails bay (*14) and some sticks, back inside for warmup, 2 rabbits, back inside, more cattails. At nightfall, the weather is nice, I continue looting the lake, empty of wolf, and I’m happy I decided to stay here one more day. The stalks are the sleepwalker’s best friends. 35 stalks total after midnight loot, plus still 2 rabbits to harvest for my inevitable morning fire. Stomach says thank you
  12. I'd be glad in you explained why you crafted this or that, and in what numbers. I never crafted a hatchet in a Loper+. I always end up with 2 knives tho, just from paranoia.
  13. BareSkin34- Day7 [Sleepwalker level 8] Because this is not really over, I just try to survive: I navigate the cave under tea, light another fire at the other side for full warmup. Despite the time spent in the cave, the blizzard isn't over yet! It started just after noon... I'll find Trapper's only because I know the place by memory: Home sweet home The next morning, I check my situation now that I'm calm: I'm obviously dead, either by starvation here, either wolfed or frozen trying to find food within the week. I delete the save. I've died several times from being too cautious. That was not one of them.
  14. Hello @Raphael van Lierop and the team, thanks for this reaaaaally nice game. I have a simple question: why did you (personally or as a team), at some point, chose to reward players exponentially for sleeping long stretches? Something linear like "in a bed, after the first hour, every hour slept heals twice the normal awake recovery" would have seemed more natural to me. That would still make players sleep long stretches, but not come back from the other side of the Styx in only one night. It stills bugs me that you can go to bed after a wolf fight with frostbite risk, 4 sprains, hypothermia, eat 7 cattails, drink, choose 10 hours, and start as if nothing happened. As if it was not a big mistake to be careless.
  15. Had 10 Interlopers, my best one was the seventh: 98 days. I did statistics, my most probable death cause was being wolfed. So I stopped trying to outrun them and began to take cold damage to avoid them. I took the habit to pause quite often while I walk, to hear for their footsteps. Since last update, howling helps too. My advice would be: find the most probable root cause to your deaths.
  16. Sounds legit, since this is the last step of the mode that links Interloper to Deadman Contrary to Deadman, I thought the weather should not change that fast. But it actually can change as fast, but not as frequently as in Deadman. Anyway, it takes only one brutal change to make you dead! BareSkin34- Week2 [Sleepwalker level 8] The weather is so bad, I already lost a ton of health because of freezing, I'm exhausted so can't sprint to the cave. If I push on, I'm dead before arriving to shelter. So, I find a somewhat-shielded corner to heat up a bit. Then I wait for the blizzard to end, and wait more, and more, and more... I have lot of potential teas, but my cooking recipients are few meters away, I dropped them before goating down. But truly, I can't stay here all night long, right? The winds have the same opinion, they turn, kill my fire and force me to take a deep breath and try my luck. Run walk for my life. Without any warmth bonus, cause that'd be too easy. Of course, it's flat. All I needed was to be even slower. Doesn't sound nice, but I push on anyway. I didn't think I could mitigate the wind until the cave. Sleepwalking definitely teaches you shielded path, every bit of health is so precious. I earned the right to live a bit more. But let's be honest, the game is over in sleepwalking with 3% health back everyday, at best. It would take 2 weeks to get back to half-decent, and in two weeks I'd be on day 30 without forged tools.
  17. BareSkin34- D5-ish? [Sleepwalker level 8] In the Bear Cabin, I find a small golden treasure: Back at the Overlook, for food I guess Arrived at my pivotal point of many of my runs. You can't find a best snaring place, period. With the other nearby carcass, the food is not enough to wait for curing guts. I'll have to go Milton Bowl tomorrow or next day, for the cattails and the rabbits. Fuel will be a nice bonus too. Dafuq? What is this new bear path? never seen him there... The occasion was too good, let's go Milton Bowl only tomorrow. Need the matches, fuel, teas. Rabbits will be a bonus. So the next day, I'm headed to the Jeremiah Bowl in the best weather of all times. I drop everything heavy before climbing down, goat my way to Paradise, snap 2 rabbits, miss a third one, take tons of teas, grab the matches in the cave when... I suddenly hear string winds while getting the coals, and the screen turns blue. My biggest nightmare became reality. I actually never went down the Ravine for fear of being trapped 1 rope away from safety. What a joke. It's Sleepwalker, my temp bar is not that high, if I wait in the cave with a fire I'm dead, cause once exhausted I'll be trapped in there. And on SW8 like on deadman, exhaustion come very quickly. I have no choice, I have to make it to safety as soon as possible, no matter the risks. Any risk is better that sure death. I think the rope to Trapper's is smaller than the one to Orca. By the pure will of gods, I make it to the top of the rope. I might survive this after all.
  18. BareSkin34- D1 [Sleepwalker level 8] Still no written journal for him. I wish I could resize pic like @Gooner77, but I don't. Matches AND maglens? God, could I be more lucky? Perfect weather when I leave for looting the other cabins 10 minutes later when I arrive at the Bear Cabin... My luck will be balanced by weather gods it seems.
  19. I can't believe you're already 40 days in a sleepwalker run That is impressive! Seems like you precedent loper runs did not at all rely on being starved and sleep-healing, congrats!
  20. Since there is less and less wolves and more and more cold... I bet on cold.
  21. The idea seems to remind me some firestrikers indeed. Also true I've never found anything of value under this little arch for decades...
  22. Always be ready to break a rule.
  23. Extreme Sleepwalking is here! Bareskin32 was Cinderella Challenge (Voyager, survive naked 30 in Old Island Connector) BareSkin33- D1 [Sleepwalker level 8] – ALL NEEDS "Very high" Since it was my first attempt, I didn't write anything down for him, so comic strip again: Go figure why, at that time I decide I'll sleep in Milton tonight This Moose forces me to make a HUGE detour Here's my death sentence: while detouring the Moose. Go Rose hips but no ignition. Can't take a rope, and down in Milton Basin with no bedroll. That was stupid. Even more stupid: I should have known from the begining that even unsprained the Fatigue loss made this plan an insult to any form of intelligence. I actually never went up to Milton from here, didn't realize it was that much of a climb. I just quit the game a delete the save.
  24. Ah, it would have been so much better to have succeeded with BareSkin30 On your request, she sent a pic of her last hike. Spring in Desolation Point!
  25. Never heard about that . Or is any carcass supposed to be around 1kg and when I found more it's a bugged one? Can you get 4 guts and 2 pelts? I've found myself in this river map only a couple time on Loper.
