  1. I must direct you to this post I just made, that's a mode you might want to try on last level since you're already good on hardcore deadman. Congrats, by the way!
  2. I’m currently in a quite long run on a Vanilla Interloper. Some frustration came in with this mode, that sometimes doesn’t seem “quite right” compared to expected behavior I’d have if I had to survive in real life: The sleeping mechanism has its own healing curve, that doesn’t stack with background recovery (confirmed by personal science and @Ruruwawa). A good sleep on regular Loper (setting is “Medium”) on calories will bring you at least 32%, sometimes 40% without Herbal, depending on the bed you sleep in, but not only that since I got both values at Trapper’s. For the somewhat low price of 750 calories per day. Since you lose 1% health per hour when you’re starving, it’s far more efficient to spend your day starved (14h=-14%), and the game allows you to do activities that use calories (harvest carcasses, harvest curtains, brake crates, whatever). That’s a net minimum of +15% everyday provided you find 750 calories, which is 5 cattail stalks. Maybe forbidding calories-activities while you’re starved would fix Interloper, but this option is not available in custom settings as far as I know. The fix to this problem would be to disable “at rest recovery” curve and have the “awake” one play also during sleeping like @Drifter Man suggested, but this possibility doesn’t exist either, and the Low “at rest” curve is still giving you more health back than regular background, by at least a factor of 2 or 3 compared to calories cost. Regular Interloper came with a fix that treated the symptoms instead of the cause: “Rest as a resource” is here to prevent you from sleep-healing as much as you want. Problem is, the only consequence of this mechanic, which actually arguably doesn’t seem realistic in the first place, is that on Loper you end up running stupidly around your indoors place before going to sleep. Which doesn’t punish you in any way since you’re starved already. I felt frustrated the game makes me behave strangely like that, so I poked around a bit in Custom Settings to find what I could play on my next runs, that would force me to behave differently – more “realistically”. I’m not experienced enough to play a DeadMan mode, plus I feel it’s not really realistic that you can’t heal at all, and the Emergency Stim hunt would not be fun to me even if I knew where they were and was able to survive this mode long enough to find one which anyway is not the case. Here is what I ended up with, a set of halfway alternatives: the Sleepwalker Modes are a rising slope from Interloper to Deadman. Interloper SW0 SW1 SW2 SW3 SW4 SW5 SW6 SW7 Calorie Burn Rate Very High HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH VERY HIGH Thirst High HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH VERY HIGH VERY HIGH VERY HIGH VERY HIGH Fatigue Medium HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH VERY HIGH VERY HIGH Freezing Very High HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH VERY HIGH VERY HIGH VERY HIGH Sleeping recovery Medium NONE NONE NONE NONE NONE NONE NONE NONE Awake recovery Medium Very High +2 %/h High +1%/h Med +0.5%/h Low 0.25%/h Low 0.25%/h Low 0.25%/h Low 0.25%/h Low 0.25%/h Rest as resource YES NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO The slept part of the day is actually punishing: you have to be on calories for not losing precious health, but don’t get any recovery during this hours. Yes, this is a calorie sink. The next level would be a Deadman variation, where “awake recovery” is set to “None” I’ll start on sleepwalker level 1, since being starved is -1%/h (confirmed by personal science today), it seems fair to me that being fed should be +1%/h. Good assumption for the roleplayers / immersion: Below you will find the codes for playing these modes: SleepWalker Level Custom Code 0 8sDM-qj4P-KxuH-yaKO-LgEA 1 8sDM-qj4P-KxuT-x6KO-LgEA 2 8sDM-qj4P-Kxuf-xaKO-LgEA 3 8sDM-qj4P-Kxur-w6KO-LgEA 4 8sDM-uj4P-Kxur-w6KO-LgEA 5 8sDM-uj8P-Kxur-w6KO-LgEA 6 8sDM-+j8P-Kxur-w6KO-LgEA 7 8sDM-/j8P-Kxur-w6KO-LgEA Deadman Style 8sDM-/j8P-Kxu3-waKO-LgEA I’ve tested this mode a bit already, and it made me behave more realistically, so for me the SleepWalker variations hit their target. I hope some of you will test them, and if even only one of you likes it, I’d be glad to have taken the time to share my views in this post. When I’ll play this mode (no idea when), I’ll report just here just like I do with the actual BareSkins, this is why I posted in "survival stories" section.
  3. Happened to me already in Coastal Highway, on deers killed by wolves on ice (after 2days of blizzard), never on regular deer spawned as a carcass.
  4. I think this wolf killed many many players, its randomness is deadly. I must say thank you for reporting all the experiences, as short as they might be.
  5. I did release one of them, once. Maybe make some offering to the TLD gods? Now he's finished all the rabbits, he's come for you.
  6. Pun intented? I'm pretty sure I'll sooner or later play a Custom with rest healing giving as much as regular healing per unstarved hour (thanks @Ruruwawa for science), additional healing during restit just doesn't make sense, the bed is not a Hospital and the emergency stim giving you health back forever is not realistic either. Being starved all day long and eating 750 calories in front of a bed doesn't make much more sense. I will keep Cabin Fever and think more about Rest as a Resource (since "pass time" exists). +1, that's not that easy to code since one curve is linear and the other is exponential. If we had Code where these two "healing" processes where additive during sleep (i.e. regular applies on every "lived" hour), we'd just have to set "resting" to zero. It doesn't make sense either to be able to make a mode where you recover less from the first hours of sleep than if you were awake. Does it even happen to you not being hungry? New wishlist proposal: during auroras, rabbits and stones get magnetized, any stone thrown roughly towards a rabbit hits.
  7. "Reincarnation is the philosophical or religious concept that an aspect of a living being starts a new life in a different physical body" Deadman3 did got rid of all of his needs. He achieved what BareSkin7 is still failing, despite trying hard. That's what masters of made for.
  8. Wonder if you've checked JackRabbit's on CH. That might be a fine retirement place for a deadman id the rabbit's science is good. Fishing huts, workbench, nice visibility, beautiful sunsets. About modes that make sens, what about BedLoper? You can't use use bedrolls. I think if you manage to craft you own, you've completed the challenge, maybe? The harder version of it is BareLoper: you don't find a flare pistol either.
  9. After a Deadman? I see only one other option: LEftLoper: Play only with left hand. (next one is BlindLoper)
  10. That was very nice reading this topic, thanks for sharing. Still sad this deadman did perish on some scientific assumption that proved wrong tho.
  11. My experience about snares: -good place is where you can hunt rabbit that naturally spawn. I remember the is only one place in the Ravine I've seen rabbits spawn, in front of a cave, near the rope point maybe, after a bridge on the right hand when going towards ML? I'd place all my snares here. -any other place is not working (like, surroundings of Camp Office, tried everywhere I could see grass) -the rabbit can't spawn before 24h since you placed it -my rabbits always spawned after I slept, even 1h. That was nice trying to shoot the deer, imagine it hit Good luck!
  12. Never noticed a reduction in snare efficiency, I sorta never collected the pelts. But the guts, I did. Then you'll have cured guts, more snares... I'd take my chance approaching the deer from behind, crouched. I think the flare gun allows you to shoot crouched. I also think the detection range of the deer decreases when it "sniffing" the ground. Good luck!
  13. To the whole Hinterland team: Are you pleased with the positive feedback you get from players? Is there enough to be satisfied as a developing team? I said several times in my survival stories that I loved the game (and sometimes hated it, which is the same), but never sent direct feedback to the actual humans behind it.
  14. They were communists, the rabbits, right? After 1943 they swarmed your body into pieces?
  15. Never seen a snare break before several blizzards spent outside. And I wouldn't grab them if there's a blizzard, for fear that the "catching timer" would be reset. If you're not traveling anymore, as desperate measure the teas have some calories until the first rabbits. Or maybe food poisoning on a thin deer carcass? Reduce average calories consumption to 75/h since you can sleep all you want. Good Luck, UndeadMan!
  16. My 3 snares on JackRabbit produced 3 rabbits every morning for a week. I didn't need more on Loper, but I guess a deadman could live very long there, with the nearby fishut. Fuel would be the main problem, not calories.
  17. Pretty sure it could help a lot in a DeadMan anytime you stop somewhere since calories are golden, but that's a rare scenario. At a Forge or workbench maybe?
  18. I can confirm this, in my current Loper I put 3 snares out of a snow shelter on JackRabbits (CH), it fed me easily for days. The spot you place them seems important, I always choose a place where I killed rabbits. Second thing, the snares don't "decay", or at least it's not shown. I had two of these three brake from 100% to "Ruined" at one day interval, I craft them all the same day and used them concomitantly. IMO since they are so easy to make and provide you with guts, they should brake more often. The only downside is Scent while picking up the rabbits.
  19. Congrats! Sounds you didn't even sweat.
  20. Don't forget to turn the wolves harder too, then. I think that's why you survived last time, when the wolf "inexplicably" flew away, it just "feared" you (based on Protection value?) or you torch I suppose.
