  1. Sorry pls see edit. I'm 100 % sure most of the sprains were from walking around. A few were from the wolves. I'll look in the journal later.
  2. More from walking around, definitely 100% sure of that.
  3. I started my current run yesterday (after the hotfix). When I get home tonight I'm going to look back through my daily log and count my sprains. In the 30 -odd days I have survived numerous wolf bites, a bear attack, a moose attack, infection, intestinal parasites, hypothermia, food poisoning, major and minor bruising, cabin fever, basically everything except dysentery. The sprains are by far the worst.
  4. Actually it is potable irl. It either would come from a well (potable) or town/city water which is also potable. Even though it's gross, it doesn't have parasites in it.
  5. I'm also playing on Stalker... the revolver works sometimes but usually just injures or does nothing, even at close range with good aim.
  6. Well it appears that since the constant sprains seem to be just me, it confirms the sad fact that my character is addicted to painkillers. Maybe once I have all my clothing established properly I can ditch the moose cloak and free up some weight. I basically don't have to worry about the cold except in extreme conditions. I like not having to worry about the cold. And I like stocking up on stuff at my bases, too, in one long trip. I like walking up and down all the hills and going wherever I want. I do not like all the sprains.
  7. I'm always carrying too much (90-something lbs) on my hunting trips, and my clothing weighs a lot (that moose hide cloak), and while I know this is a factor in the sprains, it's.... really excessive. Much worse than it was before the update. I'm not playing differently than I previously have for a long run. But even if I get my gear down to 80-something lbs the sprains are still constant. My character at full rest/condition unencumbered is good until 66 lbs. Anything over that is a constant sprain pain. And of course the more tired we get the less carry capacity we have. The well-fed buff is great, +11 lbs, but once that wears off... sprain! Idk about other modes than Stalker. Are the values different in other modes?
  8. Yes it can take out a wolf and a deer, but not as reliably as the rifle will. Usually it just injures, and often doesn't do anything at all, not even scare the wolf away even at close range.
  9. I have spent way too much time this past weekend exploring the new update. After several ill-fated starts, I finally got a nice stable 30-something-day Stalker mode run established. (Exactly on the 30 day mark I got cabin fever...) The sprain system, while annoying before, is the bane of my Long Dark Existence in a way that it wasn't previously. I appreciate Hinterland's attention to making it a better experience but it is a resource-sink and... I'm getting sprains even more often than I did before! Constantly! My character must have bones made of twigs or something. I get sprain injury risk from: Cooking fish on the pot belly stove picking up a stone to throw at a rabbit Really? I can't fight off a wolf or walk on ANY hilly terrain without getting a sprain. I don't even bother treating them any more because it takes all my cloth and I can just rest it off anyhow. Also, I'll just get another sprain in 2 minutes. If I take painkillers it doesn't do anything unless I also use a bandage and I still get the red screen pain flashes. THE SPRAIN HEALS BEFORE THE PAIN. So, with no treatment at all except time, I get a notification that the sprain is all better but the pain from it lasts for another couple of hours! If I have treated the sprain with a bandage and painkillers, I get another sprain despite the fact that my wrist/ankle is already wrapped! Unlike stopping blood, a cloth bandage would not be used up if only used as an ankle or wrist wrap. And sprains on top of wrapped healed sprains (and more painkillers)? This really needs re-thinking. Also, that stupid moose attacked me and I went the entire 120 hours of rest plus a bandage but the affliction would not go away until I also put a second bandage on... after it was presumably healed. PAINKILLERS: I'm really convinced my TLD character has a painkiller addiction which is why she wants all these pills repeatedly at the slightest nudge. Let's say you get a sprained ankle and 2 sprained wrists (from walking down one hill). You have to take painkillers for each separate injury- in this case 6 painkillers in total. This makes zero sense at all.... one dose of painkiller should really take care of everything. And then you can immediately re-injure and have to take MORE painkillers! I'm pretty sure these painkillers aren't advil- you take 6 of those things and you'd be passed out, loopy, whatever people who get hooked on painkillers experience. In all honestly and seriousness, this rampant use of painkillers in the game needs a serious re-think. (Or add in a "painkiller addiction" affliction.) The sprains too.... if they are going to require more effort to treat, they really need to be much harder to get. Re-injury after treatment should not happen. (And cooking fish should not put me at risk for sprain injury.)
  10. I also thought that's how I got the knife! LOL
  11. I would like to 1) either be able to craft a whetstone or 2) see the decay rate of them either drastically reduced or eliminated. In real life a whetstone lasts practically forever. They are already pretty rare to find which is fine but the rate at which they wear out is a bit annoying and unrealistic. FWIW the whetstone is my favorite item in the game, just because I think they are cool.
  12. Yes, that time is insanely good.... I'd love to see how you did it. I can see going faster carrying mostly nothing... but what baffles me about it is the walking speed and how long it takes just to walk across the regions. And it takes time to loot for and make the coffee. And if a wolf gets you, or you get a blizzard, it definitely impacts the time. But congrats on that completion time, that's really something. If you ever make a video of it, please share.
  13. I watched the video with the 18 hour completion time. It was so nostalgic to see the game with the old items and interface!! And so nice to see the Dam again without all that junk in front. And the old campfires! @Raphael van Lierop would you consider running a RETRO TLD event with a really old version being available? That would be so fun. Anyhow, I don't think this 18 hour completion would be at all possible in today's game. All the game values are different. There were no blizzards, no wind, no darkness, no wolf attacks (Fluffy ran away!!!!), the lantern lasted forever, no weight limit on climbing (those were the days) and the game seemed to be basically in pilgrim mode. The cold didn't seem to be an issue at all like it is now. Fatigue didn't slow the walking speed. Knowing the maps seemed to be the biggest challenge. I have to say I'm still pretty astounded at the 18 hour completion because of the walking speed over so much distance alone. IDK if the time was measured differently or what... but at 6 days 18 hours I was just starting Pleasant Valley, and I didn't stop ANYWHERE. It seems walking just didn't take as much time in the older version. My route through PV was similar, but I didn't stop in the farmhouse at all. Or anywhere. I went straight through PV. And it was HARD. I was well into day 2 in by the time I got to TWM, and I was really rushing. I don't even know how I could have gone any faster. I was never at 100% condition, I was freezing, miserable, and exhausted barely trying to stay alive. If I was at 40% I thought I was doing great. Oh, and my character complained a LOT more! Overall I think the challenge is better today because it is much more difficult. It was so stressful and suspenseful!! It's really nice to see the contrast in the game evolution stages.
  14. I need to watch this. I find that time to be completely astounding.
  15. It's a really beautiful region. The ice caves are pretty. There are absolutely no man-made structures at all... including no crafting table that I found. I'd like to see some kind of natural craft table substitute, like a flat stone somewhere and bone tools... After some enjoyable high quality cave-living for quite some time, I was forced to leave the region because I needed to make... fish hooks. Which should be camp craft but somehow require a crafting table. No clothing repair was possible anymore, so I had to leave just to make fish hooks. But aside from that, it's very pretty and peaceful, total wilderness. Not ok for a starting zone though because there is no way to craft anything. If I'm wrong about that and somehow missed something please let me know... but as far as I know there isn't any way to craft, I mapped out the whole region. (I think)
  16. Done. If you were in a safe location and had enough fuel, staying put and literally doing nothing was the way to survive. i did go to the camp office after getting the badge, and it was a little bit sad to leave my cave, knowing I will never be back. But I wanted to check for a pie... of course there was none. Of course there would not be in my crap-loot game. Thanks everyone for the good company during this fun event!
  17. Next year they really will burn all structures.
  18. Are we a paranoid bunch or what? TWO WORDS: "Fire" and "yet" and we move into caves thinking structures are going to burn down. Hinterland must be laughing so hard at that one. See what those wolves did to our heads?
  19. Same here... took me forever to find it and then I finally got the achievement as well. It was very frustrating!
  20. I also missed the explanation... that phone scared the ^@&%&_ out of me lol!
  21. It's good to be able to put your heart into something and also be financially successful.
  22. The solitude, the gorgeous landscape, and the decision-making/problem solving with resources at hand.
  23. Thank you very much! hey it works how exciting! was driving me nuts!
