  1. I'm on PC, not sure about @RandomPlayer
  2. Thank you, your remarks are enough reward for me!
  3. well he does look pretty dead now at any rate! I guess he musta been sitting when whoever barged in on him. Looks like he took the first arrow to his knee! so, did you take his cash?
  4. Well, and that is a deep subject... lol I'll let the last wire frame pic do all the talking for me. At any rate, I'd agree with @UTC-10 that the dev's idea regarding infrastructure is probably laid out incorrectly. It's apparent however that the old industrialist Carter built a gargantuan structure, something that would stand for centuries. I don't think anyone is gonna be tearing it down anytime soon! So maybe if we are lucky, the dev team will chime in on this debate and help set the record straight. I know, wishful thinking on my part. Game on!
  5. I made a 12 hour fire on top of this barrel and started cooking some food. I went inside to drop some items and when I came back out my firepit had fallen to the floor but everything was still cooking!
  6. I do believe that @stratvox got it right when he said; "My thinking is that the dam was abandoned and decommissioned many years before the first flare, and that the pipes have been open and letting water through..." so, opening the pipes allowed the water to run through, basically draining down the reservoir until the flow was once again equalized. Just because water flows into Mystery lake doesn't mean that the lake is gonna fill up. water will continue to slowly seep out of Mystery lake and back into the ocean like it has been doing.
  7. I've finally have the definitive answer on the reservoir and the direction of water flow for the Carter Hydro Dam Project But first lets take a fun little look into the wire frame layout of the Upper and Lower Dam environs Upper Dam you may notice an absence of fixtures and crates... I did a little metal and reclaimed wood salvage. So far have over 85 kilos of scrap metal! birds eye view of upper turbine room side view same side view, basically ground level looking in from the outside Side view with hatch door to lower level visible Lower Dam Side view of lower level Windowed side is where you enter the lower dam from Winding River, stairwell leads to corridor leading to lower turbine area Birds eye view of lower dam layout side view of lower level with stairway in foreground leading to doorway exiting to Winding River side close up birds eye view of interior of lower level, entrance to dam from Winding River of the left Although I thought these wire frameworks were pretty cool to look they didn't really give me any indications from which direction the water flowed until.... Wire frame view of front of Carter Hydro. Looks like Carter built his dam on what appeared to be a waterfall, with the Winding River spilling over the falls and emptying into Mystery Lake!
  8. The front of Carter Hydro Electric Dam Project Train bridge servicing Carter Hydro note height limitations of stone piling(s) - water not to exceed piling height! not very deep or massive to be an effective reservoir, but more than adequately meets the requirements for a well regulated water discharge system. View of Carter Hydro from Winding River Reservoir Area Massive concrete construction Looks designed to hold back millions and millions of liters of water! let's get a little closer this basin looks like it could hold a lot of water. really a lot. seeing all this flotsam and debris piled up at the base I get the impression that the water is/was flowing in the direction of the dam and not the other way. apparent direction of water flow approximate height of normal operating water depth approximate height of normal operating water depth The dam walls here look massive. Isn't that you might expect a reservoir should look like?
  9. definitely connects the two as it were, but I get the impression that the Winding River is fed by the river water coming from Pleasant Valley and is flowing towards Mystery Lake.
  10. The train bridge in front of the entrance to the Carter Hydro project is the first clue that the dam's reservoir is on the Winding River side of the project. The massive walls of the structure closed the natural gap between the rock outcroppings creating the giant basin that would have become the reservoir. Consider the view of the back side of the dam, the next time you find yourself exploring the surroundings that constitute the area known as Winding River. The water level of course has been drawn down and equalized since the dam had been decommissioned, allowing the slow, yet continuous, unrestricted flow of water into Mystery Lake. Now with the permafreeze in place that water is little more than a trickle, although the waterfall in Ravin's Ravine is still dumping thousands of liters of water! Obviously, many elements of modern dam building mechanics have been overlooked in the artistic creation of the in game hydroelectric plant...
  11. Wow, caught the biggest fish in the game! Got to cooking it up too! Incredible in that cooking this fish I gained almost 1200 calories of sustenance. It yielded .48 liters of useable lamp fuel oil!
  12. yeah, that red sky filter is pretty vivid. I like the blue, it really feels cold and icy
  13. outstanding! I've decided to replay the story in anticipation of the upcoming release! Have fun on your Stalker run! Game On, @ManicManiac!
  14. I'll see your rusty tuna and raise you a box of moldy crackers!
  15. Yeah, I've seen Zanakin's long jump to avoid the rope climb trick. Still gotta do the parkour course anyways, so, no. did you see @peteloud's post just above your reply? stacking like that... Problem with that doing rock caches is that you max out at 5 on any single map. I wasn't able to span any distance or gain any height elevation that would make feasible. maybe someone else can perfect a technique that works...
  16. The Legend of the White Stag I arrived at the snow shelter lookout very late in the afternoon, it would be dusk soon so I entered the shelter. After entering the shelter, a weariness fell upon me and I dozed off... I awoke to the sounds of hooves breaking thru the frozen crust of the snow pack and could hear the beautiful beast as it snorted and sneezed in the cold morning air. I spied a glimpse of his magnificent form before he casually sauntered out of my view. I waited in place watching... waiting and watching.... waiting and watching some more until dusk was upon me yet again. I felt cheated in that I had only gotten a single glance of this legendary albino buck, but I guess that's the stuff of legends. I decided to sleep in place again to see if maybe the buck would return. He did not. As I left the enclosure I headed back to the broken buildings of the old farmstead only to find the Legendary Albino Stag frozen in place! It was as if the game gods had heard my lamentations and decided to grant me with this final gift! This is my new wallpaper!
  17. I tried building a tiered rock cache myself and was unsuccessful in the attempt. where did you see this? I'd like to check that out. can you post a link?
  18. you're right, Joplin's Bunker is referred to in one of the notes you find as you explore PV. I was thinking of the random spawning bunkers that are found in survival mode... my bad!
  19. Before you go up there to fish, be sure to find the local legends book about the big fish in Pensive Pond. It's a great little side quest and will provide you with an abundance of lamp fuel for completing the Coming Storm mission. I read in some of the comments about a bunker, but I looked all over and never found one in Episode 3 of story mode. not even the usually spawning permanent bunker that leads to TimberWolf Mountian. But you should be able to find more than sufficient lamp supplies if you loot the buildings and cars.
  20. and you should! I decided to do a replay, except this time around I'm not in any hurry to move along the story line. It's more like playing a survival walkthrough, taking my own sweet time in the process!
