I started a fire with a piece of flint and a buck knife when I was ten, guys. Almost cut my fingers off, but I did it. It takes a knack, or epic luck, but it isn't that difficult if a kid with next to no common sense could figure it out. Just have your tinder RIGHT THERE, get a spark, and you're set.
Totally agree. But there's already the magnifying lens so adding more "infinite" fire making tools is unlikely.

The steam store page does mention that Wintermute is episodic. That being said, this quote is from halfway down the store page.
QuoteThe episodic story-mode for The Long Dark, WINTERMUTE launches with two of the five episodes that form its Season One.

When you know what you are doing its ´’ easy ‘’ . Ive started one bow drill fire in like 25min last fall ... so sorry but 5hours like mention earlier seens a bit far fetched .
Having never tried to light a fire with a bow drill I suspect I'd be in the "5 hours" category

In Canada possession of everything except military rifles (fully automatic) is legal provided you have the right licenses and permits. Handguns require extra red tape but it is fairly easy to get licensed for hunting rifles and shot guns. They are also fairly common in rural Canada due to a long tradition of hunting and trapping.

Hey Folks,
Don't be too hard on @Whisper. While we may have differences of opinion regarding the update that doesn't mean their personal experience is invalid. Conversation and disagreement are good (I for one am enjoying custom difficulty as is). Direct character criticisms are not.

That's exactly what I was thinking @nicko. I half expected the moose to just sit on the wolf to drown it. Then again the moose likely didn't because its head would be in biting range if the wolf escaped.

Imagine TLD with mooses, weasels, foxes (and also because is the official logo), white owl (visible, not just the sound), grizzly !
I'd very much like that. Even if not all animals are harvestable it would do a lot to flesh out the world the player inhabits.

Just remember one thing about moose: they don't like being bothered.

As opposed to all new clothing items, moose hide can just be an upgraded version of deer hide. Same clothing items but more warm and durable. Lynx would be interesting but I doubt they'd be a useful animal to hunt. They are incredibly wary of people and are quite small. A more realistic (and widespread) animal to include would be a weasel. You could trap them for fur to line hats and parkas.

Fair enough. They are fun but also have a high risk of breaking your saves

No thanks.
I think test branch is over and should forever be over and done with.
Thanks to Raphael's Twitter we can see that they are testing the sandbox...but I doubt they will ever open it up to a wide test branch style setup again.
You never know. There are studios who still do limited test branches with major updates.

@Hawk - During the alpha the lag from Steam to GOG for major content updates was usually 1-2 weeks. I would anticipate it being the same here with a Steam release followed by consoles and GOG.

@ArmagedDan - that's a whole lot of NOPE right there

Very, very cool! Now I must go and delete some saves I don't need.
You might not need to. The number of save slots are expanding after all.

I've got to ask, wouldn't using the fireplace in the hut give the same benefit?
