  1. + and this. one of the things ambulance personnel does is not letting you fall asleep after an injury, however much you feel like to. I doubt they do that out of cruelty… TLD not having ambulance personnel is I believe one of the leading causes of death in the game. But I think, that is very much the point…
  2. … it happened to me a long time ago. Was such a shocking experience, that ever since I pay more attention to the wounds showing up in the right during a struggle, to see if there’s anything red, than almost anything else in the game… ‘gotta stop that bleeding’ is the first thing she usually says after. I even walk / run away after a bear roll just a tiny bit keeping a close eye on the health meter, before clicking on the bandage and cover up what’s red among the afflictions - last time even rebandaged a burn by accident. it hurts, so that we learn, just like irl…
  3. I’ve been thinking of a flashlight only working during aurorae…, the extra heavy version of course…, but realized it might be a very niche item…
  4. Thank you @xannafor your mention, but I believe it was @mutedgrey you are referring to - credit, where credit is due more on topic.: I think mugs are clearly the best idea, as both useful in everyday life, and one of the more accessible items for broader audiences. especially if there is also a microwaveable version... (for about 25 years I have an arcoroc tea mug of similar shape, made of some proven indestructible tinted glass... - they might be able to produce something for the store) I loved the snowglobes idea, and expanding on the idea of 3D printing some areas (if can be done in good enough quality) also outside of a snow globe might be interesting - maybe as a phone holder on the desk. Or palm-size "collectible statuettes" of timberwolves, moose, bunnies..., any of our friends...:)
  5. I think I was at the right place then, also found the black wolves. (nice trick of HL to include those as well;-)) thanks!
  6. Thanks @James Hickok, that is a useful perspective. Maybe I need to give it some more time to feel more comfortable on the map. (I found a couple of shortcuts/safecuts, so knowing them better might enhance the experience I believe) I have also found the bridge you are talking about, sounds like a great tactic:) I haven't found a forge here though, if I'm reading you correct, I should not be looking further for it... 😉 Also, I found some mentions of a bear inside the prison fence before climbing into the warden's office - and going for the vest. In my (stalker) run I had a lone blackwolf there, bringing me a meagre 3kgs of meat for dinner, but no bear. Does it not spawn all the time, or has it changed? Or was I looking for it in the wrong place?
  7. [this post is about survival only] One of the things I like best in TLD is to discover a new region. I have kept BlackRock unvisited until now, to savour what I was expecting to be a special area: probably challenging, but worthwhile. I found the vest, repaired the radio tower, found quite a few shortcuts, stumbled upon a (mostly empty) prepper's cache, noisemakers, and have also managed to get into the workshop using only the clues of the region itself: I think I have visited a very large part of the map already. And I cannot say I have fallen in love... It seemed to me like an exercise in cruelty: with so many timberwolves everywhere, dead ends, mazes, forced detours and crappy weather. There seems to be a lot of material available, but am not fully sure if I personally find it to be worth it. (for comparison: I love BI, really, happy to spend there weeks, even if there are less resources in comparison) Maybe I've missed something? What do others think of this region? (you can also explain in more detail, than what options I put in the poll 😉 )
  8. I've just found a very similar spot in BR. Good that I remembered your video, and knew where to look for the hitbox:) Thanks for posting!
  9. 2 items, one after the other gave me a "sold out" popup while I was entering the shipping/payment details... In the end I managed to order one thing - but not the one I wanted most. Maybe next year...
  10. In my understanding the general HL mailing list is not the same as the Merch Store's mailing list. So if you are subscribed to the Merch Store's mailing list as well (link is in the first post), then you'd probably be fine tomorrow. If you are only subscribed to the general HL mailing list, then you might want to make sure you are also subscribed on the link from the first post - just in case. I doubt you'd get double mails in case my understanding was wrong. (I also did it for both).
  11. that. Thank you @Leeanda for being more vocal about it.
  12. I've just tried it yesterday, because of reading about it:) If you hit them directly with a rock, they are like rabbits, you need to run and break their necks. The rest of the flock will fly away. If your stone jumps on the snow before hitting them, all fly away... only direct hits count. (rabbits can also be stunned with jumping stones) FHA are waay better i think..., once you have access to them...
  13. BREAKING! Breyerhouse Pie does not smell! (or does it...?) At 7083 calories / kg it beats even salty crackers, so seems to be a great item for a long journey. (Forsaken Airfield Island to Ash Canyon GoldMine...?) My only problem with it was, that I expected it to smell - like the other meat pies, which would kinda defeat the purpose.. So I made it just for fun, and was surprised to find that it does not show a smell icon, not even two of them does. I've tried testing whether that is really the case, and am 90% certain, that it does not smell: - the wolves do not seem to be coming/going when I pick it up/put down, like with fresh guts. - but, when I press 3 (to drop decoy) it still drops it, which is a bit confusing... (previously it was a great way to keep pressing 3 until I dropped everything smelly; Fishing bait also does not seem to follow this rule, as it is not dropped as decoy, while definitely smelly...) Not sure if it is intended or a bug... - also, I feel I've had more wolf encounters on my voyage than I expected, while carrying two pies with me... - not sure if that is only a perceptional distortion. If it does indeed not smell, this can be a superfood for long trips... Has anyone else tried it?
  14. I also found one of the snow shelters weird in FA, the one on the island. (it is a new run, started on FA a few weeks ago) it was already ruined (a few days after I started), and I removed it, but it stayed. removed it a few more times, one time it was not ruined, the rest it was. In the end it disappeared - yaay. then again it was there some time later... and I stopped trying to remove it... It seems like there are multiple snow shelters added on top of each other, and they keep getting added (maybe when I reload it? haven't tested). that would explain how one could sleep in them (=one is still not ruined), and perhaps also the thunder-like sound that was there before the update: if there are multiple snow shelters, and all trigger the sound, it could get amplified. but it is just a theory. I also thought it got fixed (at least, the sound is gone now), but still does not seem to be perfect...
  15. the list of bugfixes indeed mentions this as EXITING, and I never quite understood if that was a different bug, or a typo, or sg else. I have also always experienced it when entering, never when exiting. I've started a new run recently, and have not encountered this bug yet, but not sure if that is due to the new run, or the bug having been fixed... - it might just be the new run..., as you are experiencing it... thanks for notifying support, hopefully they'd take a look...
  16. I agree it makes sense, maybe even just to add 1-2 minutes. at the same time, sticks are so abundant, it is not very much "needed" per se... I'm using them after Level3 for marking routes in the snow/caves, dropping one every 7-8 steps - handy in fog or blizzard.
  17. exactly. I do not stand up, because I am nearing them while standing (not crouching). probably that's why they are so tiny and missable:D
  18. No, they really don't. I have been shooting at them with the fire-hardened arrows, and even 2-3 very near misses seem not to wake them from their slumber. I have so much down, I do not really need more, primarily I was shooting them for practice and getting that Level5 Archery... They are tiny and white and hiding in the grass usually - I would not waste the revolver rounds on them. I found that you have to aim a lot lower, than you'd expect with the FH arrow, and the wind seems to influence it a lot more, than the normal one.
  19. I found that when someone does not appear to share my viewpoint, it is better to try to figure out why, than call them stupid/inexperienced - this I find to help in multiple areas of life (and yes, my eyes are also getting older...) So, let me try to understand your standpoint : are you saying, that the indoors are dark, not because they were meant to make you decide whether you use resources to light them up, but because of a mistake in the code? Or something else?
  20. I believe this has always been the case... The hide cures for 10 days after placed inside. According to the fandom the quarters decay by 10%/day (although I also feel it is more like 20%, but have not timed it, and stopped quartering a while ago, and instead slice up the whole guy with a hunting knife on the spot with a fire burning to keep wolves at bay); even with 10%/day it would decay quicker, as the starting condition depends on the condition of the carcass, and would always be less than 100%. The carcass decays even quicker, around 33%/day, so the sooner you quarter, the longer the quarters would last.
  21. I agree, at least salt water should be collectable, or, a cooking option for distilling salt would be available if I have an open fishing hole on sea-ice nearby. Salt is not an expensive resource even now, when it is non-renewable, so making it renewable would not change the balance too much imho, while it could make broth become a truly renewable item for e.g., and add a lot to realism, with very limited coding changes (I think). To keep it challenging I might add it to be only possible using pots or pans (not in cans), and doing so would have the same 5% degradation (but repairable) effect, as when we overboil the snow/burn the food. The recipe could be that 1 L gives 3 portions, 2 L would give 7 portions of salt (seawater is about 3,5% salt), with also having a slight advantage for using the pot over the pan. It could also take quite long, as boiling away 2 L of water does require a lot of energy. Also @Third Try's idea of salting meat/fish would be a long sought after solution: to make a long lasting, and non-smelly food option (if the beef jerkies we find are not smelling, our homemade deer jerkies could have the same attribute). Possible by salting them to be an "anywhere" action, which is followed by a mandatory, long curing process - similarly to how skins are curing slowly, only this would happen out on the snow.. This could turn salted meat (still smelly) into cured meat (not smelly) over 10 days or so. It could also be limited to deer and moose meat or salmon only - to make these (even) more valuable. What do you think?
  22. Are you not worried about them attracting predators? That seems to be my major concern about most pies…
  23. I’ve only recently started experimenting with the new TFTFT recipes, and have been wondering what others have found to be the best uses for them (I haven’t yet gotten all alternate recipes) I’ve seen some earlier discussions which were mostly about what people do not like about them - this time I’d like to focus on which ones and how you are using mostly. Some of my experiences: - since calories are a non-issue after the initial challenges, I decided to largely disregard whether they add o or reduce calories of ingredients. - As most ingredients are non-renewable, I think they are best used for their buffs, or other qualities for special situations - as opposed to replacing staples of cooked meat/fish. - broth I find to be a great way to carry some heatable, non-smelling liquid for colder areas - similar to teas -, where birch bark is not easily available. It only needs salt in addition to ptarmigans. One piece of salt giving a 100 portions make it seem ‘almost renewable’. - stews only need a little bit of flour in addition, to give the buff improved rest, without the more limited herbal teas, so I found it also helpful after losing a lot of condition. - oatmeal were handy as-is at the beginning, as easily made, and weigh little uncooked. others?
  24. Have you by any chance built a stone cache nearby? This error was quite common (and I agree, very frustrating) before the latest update a few weeks ago. Since then I have not experienced it, so thought it was gone... There were some discussions about it a few months ago, and we found that it might be related to stone caches - but it was inconclusive. so just wondering if you have built any stone caches (nearby)?
