  1. I wonder why you wanted to go to Bleak Inlet on day2...? Have you already found and used up so much ammo to have lots of empty shells/all the various stuff needed for gunpowder and bullet heads?
  2. I'm sorry to hear that - it must be awful to get headaches from the game we like so much... it only shows up automatically after first installing, so it is easy to forget about, but there is a setting/brightness where one can play with the slider to find the right balance for them - maybe you can find a setting that is more comfortable, but still challenging. (as I continue to believe, that in addition to realism, the indoors are also darker on purpose, so that one cannot find all loot/move around in caves without using torch or lantern) Hope it can help you.
  3. you may want to look at that screen saying DISCLAIMER on top every time you open the game, and read it. it is a few lines only. it pretty clearly explains what the developers' standpoint is on realism vs letting the player have to make choices. and if that is not clear enough, where that standpoint comes from, you could also give a try googling "Sid Meier Interesting Decisions".
  4. Thank you for sharing the above thought stream. for the record, 18 November 2017. you can look up the version if important:)
  5. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with anyone else installing mods. I’ve read others complain about the darkness of inside locations. It is dark, for sure. I personally do not think it is in any way unrealistic: the size and location of windows vs the rooms’ size and arrangements can easily make areas dark even during daytime. Especially if it is cloudy, and being up north does not help it either (afterall it is cold there because of much less sunlight than what most of us have irl. (I also need to turn on lights in some parts of my apartment even during the day, and I only live in NL) for the gameplay, I think fish oil is not such an expensive resource to use it for taking a second look while looting - after trying to grab things I can also see without it. but that is just my take on it, no judgement if others see it differently
  6. Currently: yes. There still are some annoying bugs, but much less than before the latest update of ‘150+ bugs resolved’ before that I also chose to take some time off, had some very similar feelings as @peteloud was expressing… even have been worried that I have to wait until mid2025 for all updates to get released and all bugs introduced till then to get resolved… at the same time it is pretty clear, that Raph also was aware of the same, and as much as he could express it openly, he did not seem to be happy with the state it was, either. After all, he decided to come back to the development team from his long awaited next step… so am feeling better about it as well, and my trust is also coming back.. (at the same time: I never use mods. Just like I never watch dubbed movies. I want to enjoy art as it’s creator intended. And also, they can mess things up, which is indeed not HL’s fault at all)
  7. … as I’ve just gotten excited, the link leads to last October’s Dev Diary… thank you @Admin for your above note and clarification!
  8. [DLC only] If you want to use the Handheld Shortwave Radio to locate caches/bunkers under the snow, you not only need to repair the radio transmitters relevant to the region (one transmitter covers multiple regions!), it is also important, to turn the tower on, before searching through the entire region during the most dangerous conditions...;-) (talking from experience...)
  9. I've met moose in FA in two different locations in two different saves, do not recall any markings in either of them - also because these are not particularly forested areas... I used to rely on the markings in a way, that if they were not present on a possible location, I believed the moose will not spawn on those locations in that playthrough. Since then someone brought my attention to it, that it is not at all consistent (i.e., it can spawn without markings) Even if there were markings, it spawns so rarely, that actively looking for it seemed futile to me - so I resorted to the tactic: If I see one, I try to shoot it, otherwise not looking. If I really needed one, I went to one of the locations, where I met it frequently, in BI and HRV. Seeing it to become more consistent and even dynamic, sounds like a great idea...:)
  10. Looking back I found that except for the summer, there has been a dev diary every month. Only 3 days left, so...🤞🤞🤞
  11. the fancy cooking is not a core thing for me either. Primarily I'm still eating the same cooked game and fish, as before, with the additional ptarmigan or the exotic fish. They just work the same. The down is good to make a new clothing item, which i think beats the earwraps, and is also renewable. You can also stuff a bedroll with it to raise its temperature bonus - handy. the fancy food I have only used so far when going for their extra buffs, such as healing more while sleeping (if cooking the meat into a stew) when my condition got really low, and wanted it to go back quicker - and did not have tea. Since the ingredients are non-renewable, I think it makes sense to only use them on occasion, not as the main food source. The new map I do love a lot, the rest are nice additions, but one can also easily ignore them. I have not yet gotten to the tales for e.g., but easily can spend a 100 days in FA:) for the original question: my understanding was, that the DLC is only for Survival, not for Wintermute. That is why they were separated in the first place, so they can be developed independently. @xanna's take, that some elements might still make into Ep5, or Wintermute could have a Wintermute-only map sounds interesting. And the other reason for the separation was, in my understanding, that Survival could still grow while Ep 5 is worked on, the two do not have to wait for each other.
  12. if you burn it, you do not get a skill increase. When your skill increases, you see an image (i think it is a can) shown up for a second on the right side. the same happens when you hit an animal with a bow: a bow icon shows up. If there is nothing shown up, you did not get a skill point.
  13. I tried carving it, and gotten instantly mauled..., no chance for running. I'm pretty sure I have hit it with an arrow before, so my assumption was not entirely baseless - it just somehow forgot to bleed out... (I'm suspecting a bug of bears forgetting to bleed out more often than never)
  14. thank you! I have not yet met this expression, but according to google I'm probably too old:)
  15. what is the "hitmarker"? is this about moving the focus slowly around an area until it shows there is something to interact with, or something more specific?
  16. I do like that getting to the milling machine requires some extra tough challenge to be solved - I find it to be a well-thought-through balance. Even though I lost my character in BI more often than anywhere else:) Having them everywhere...? I'm gonna go with a NO. Maybe because I'm playing stalker which is already so full of wolves - do not need any more, thanks. Forsaken Airport is perfect as is. It has been very carefully composed to have a map where the weather and geography is the biggest challenge. I do like that for a change. There are also wolves and bears, and while not in every cranny, they are in fact at the junctions, where you'd like to cross, in the numbers that are corresponding to the value of the area. For custom players, who turn them off, exchanging them to normal wolves sounds like a reasonable alternative - BI without any wolves seems very weird. But for standard difficulties I would not change it. (in the voting above, it was not quite clear what the difference between the Yes, and "keep as is" was. if Yes meant to spread them everywhere, then I'd change my vote to "keep as is")
  17. a sleeping bear for a dead one... big surprize!
  18. well, i did find it out the hard way... (never before had a problem with wet/frozen clothes) and sorry for necroing the thread from September;-)
  19. I've also found it - afterwards...
  20. I'm really thankful for repairing those throngs of issues with the latest update, many game-breaking ones (not being able to enter safehouses), or otherwise annoying ones (like the Schrödinger carcasses, or thunder when nearing a snow shelter) - among others. Thank you HL! After this update, I carefully tried again to play, and as my trust started to slowly recuperate, I unfortunately ran into yet another serious one... I see that it is listed among the known issues as "Clothing will dry at a much slower rate near a fire while worn". While this may seem like a less important issue, in my current, new run I have gotten frostbite after spending the night in a fishing hut with fire burning all night (well above 30 degrees) - my clothing was drying so "slowly", that it actually froze... Not game-breaking, but seriously limiting bug I would say... I hope it would also get sorted out when the next update arrives. Also, that entering houses does not always trigger a save is probably one of the more important ones... (it is not listed in the known issues) Thank you HL, in advance!
  21. I do not expect any form of alcohol would be introduced to the game, primarily for rating reasons; similarly as even corpses are represented relatively peacefully, without much/any gory details. (i.e. the game wants to keep being available for relatively young audiences as well). At the same time, I'm not sure what impact alcohol would have - unless for disinfection, for which there are already multiple solutions, even renewable with beachcombing. For preserving food, I think smoking meat might be a more fitting solution, than pickling it in vinegar; but i am veg irl, so what do i know?:).
  22. fyi - as of this moment: Known Issues The following sections contain critical or high-impact known issues. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list. These articles were last updated July 25th, 2023 and are reviewed on a monthly basis. PC Error -9 and -7 upon launch Presentation: Upon launch some players will attempt to pass the disclaimer screen and find that they hang on a black screen, never progressing to the main menu. Workaround: The TLD team has released some code fixes which should make this issue less common, however may still need to address edge cases. If you encounter either error, please follow the instructions here to collect your log files, and contact support via the link in the bottom right with a copy of your logs for further investigation. Some Epic Game Store players will find that they crash upon attempting to progress past the disclaimer screen. Presentation: A small subset of EGS players will find that they are unable to progress past the disclaimer screen without crashing to the desktop. Workaround: There is no known workaround at this time, however the team is investigating and will be addressing the root cause as soon as we identify it. Episode 3 Whiteout Mission: Rescue the Survivors cannot be completed Presentation: Sometimes players will find that the Whiteout Mission in Episode 3 cannot be completed as some of the Survivors may not be counted as "rescued". Additionally, players may find that they can no longer interact with or click on Survivors, resulting in a "soft lock" situation. Workaround: The problem causing this issue has been fixed. Players who have already encountered this issue however can progress their game by moving each survivor onto one of the provided bedrolls in the Community Center. Should your mission not update, please leave and re-enter the building and try adjusting the survivors once again. Game resets after transitioning to a new Region Presentation: On very rare occasions, after transitioning to a new region, interior or exterior in Survival mode, players may find their game world and inventory have reset to a new game state. All progress is reverted to a new Survival game, including Journal entries and Collections. Workaround: If you find yourself in this state, we highly recommend immediately quitting so as to not save this state to your current save file. Should you wish to assist in helping Hinterland discover the root cause of this issue, it would be extremely helpful to copy your current "good" save file (found by following the directions in this article [link]), proceeding to save your game in this "bad" state, and then sending it in to our team through the SUPPORT button below. You can always restore your save by replacing the "good" save file to your save folder after saving in a "bad" state and sending both files in. Clothing will dry at a much slower rate near a fire while worn Presentation: Should a player attempt to dry their clothing by a fire by standing near it, they will find that the clothing will dry at a slower rate than expected. Workaround: Dropping, or dropping and re-equipping a clothing item will result in the article drying at a faster rate.
  23. There are a few countries from where zendesk is unreachable (on purpose). see: https://www.zendesk.nl/newsroom/articles/supporting-ukraine/# Should that be the case in your situation, you may need to restart the government... or contact Admin in DM - that might be easier. ...if you cannot reach the above link: Like the rest of the world, we have watched with sorrow and anger as war unfolds in Ukraine. Our hearts break for the people of Ukraine, and we hope world leaders continue to look for swift paths to peace. While we do not have any business operations in Ukraine, we are supporting our customers and partners there with payment relief so that they may continue to support their customers without interruption. We’ve donated $400,000 USD to the International Rescue Committee and $300,000 USD to World Central Kitchen from our corporate giving entity, the Zendesk Foundation. These grants will help provide on-the-ground support for people in Ukraine, and aid the overwhelming influx of refugees entering Poland and neighboring countries. Zendesk is also matching employee donations of up to $100,000 USD to the International Rescue Committee. Via our Tech for Good program, we’re offering free software, and volunteers to assist with setup, to nonprofits providing aid, relocation and other services to the people of Ukraine. We welcome all applications here. We’ve suspended all sales activities in Russia and Belarus. For our small number of existing customers there, we will, in compliance with sanctions and export controls, honor our current commitments but, as current subscription terms expire, exit these relationships. We recognize the situation in Ukraine is rapidly evolving. We’re committed to continue looking for ways to support the people of Ukraine, neighboring countries, and all communities impacted by this event. We support Ukraine. We stand for peace.
  24. thanks for sharing! I've been trying it probably at the very same spot:) Haven't yet made down clothing, want to try it. You might be right about it being overpowering, if it is such a big difference. I think it would still be cool to catch them snared, even if with a smaller chance than rabbits...:) While a little unrealistic, I'm happy they are so relaxed when just missing them with my arrows multiple times, usually I can hit them on the 3-4-5th try 😉
  25. Has anyone tried/succeeded snaring ptarmigans? I've recently placed a couple snares on a place where the birds show up regularly. The next morning there was a bird walking between the snares, but none caught. I wonder if this makes sense trying, or are ptarmigans immune to snares? IRL, or at least in documentaries they have been caught by snares, that's where the idea is from - but not sure for TLD. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!
