  1. This worked for me on a bear and a moose. Mind you I am in Pilgrim. At Miner's Folly I crouched coming out of the cabin since the bear wanders in. Had my rifle out and shot the bear in the neck. It ran around so I cooked up some of the deer I killed and water. Couple hours and dead bear not far from the cabin. As for the moose. Where the 3 ropes are to get up to the gold mine. I climbed the last one down and heard the moose. It fled away from me so I climbed onto a near by rock and crouched. Took 2 shots to get it.
  2. I actually had Astrid in Miner's Folly today. One shot a deer the first morning after noticing the bear wanders in between the buildings. It's on Passive wildlife so no big. It ran off when it saw me leave the cabin. The next morning, I crouched with rifle in hand and stepped out of the house. I didn't move away from the door, but the bear was wandering in. I let it get a little closer and shot it. Not enough for a one-shot instakill, but it took off running away from me. I had like 5 bullets, so I wasn't going to waste it. It eventually ran behind the cabin in the area where the deer are. I cooked up my deer meat and then checked the journal, the bear was dead and wasn't very far. Maybe the same method could work with the bow? There was no blood I saw, but it bled out from the neck wound.
  3. Is the hotfix for all platforms. My game on the switch crashes in ash Canyon multiple times in the run of an hour but in no other region.
  4. The devs can keep doing what they are doing. I LOVE this game, and the fact it is still not finished just means each new update is a gift waiting to be unwrapped and explored. Kudos to the team on Ash Canyon. It might be my new favorite.
  5. I have not played Ep 3 yet, as I prefer Survival Mode, but for Timberwolves, I believe the best strat is to break their morale. Marine flares will work for a bit, lighting a fire is another. It will st least bide some time. Also since Timberwolves hunt in packs, they will try and circle you. Having something solid at your back is one less thing to worry about. When the wolf is aggro'd it will charge you, stay calm and aim for the head. The rest of the pack will eventually get the hint. Also panicking and swirling while unloading the revolver is wasteful. Game or real life you don't panic in front of a wild animal, it makes them anxious. If you stay calm, create distance with a flare or fire, and have something solid at your back, the wolves can be taken care of, whether they are in a pack or not. Or avoid them and don't carry raw meat, guts or hides to keep your scent low. Crouching works in some cases.
  6. It's not a bad idea, but to use the energy to clean it, I would absolutely need to have nothing else to do but kill time. And while I do set up home bases, it's more for storage and sleeping. I think my favorite home base is the mountaineering hut in TWM. Minimalist and no load screen.
  7. Here's my reasoning for it. I was very new to survival games, and first player games. I was always more of an RPG/Pokemon streamer. So my Custom with Mackenzie was my intro into the game as I never finished story. I have never been to Coastal Highway. Desolation Point or Bleak Inlet. (In Bleak Inlet right now with Astrid). Coastal Highway and Desolation Point do not seem to be overly complicated maps and my Astrid custom is only easy so I can write the story to go along with it. With that being said, I feel the Mackenzie run did what it was meant to do, it helped me learn the game mechanics. I mean I still can't aim a rifle or a revolver the best, but I prefer the bow and arrow anyway. So I feel it's time to say goodbye to this Mackenzie and introduce a harder custom. I have survived on this custom, but I feel I would survive forever, between PV and TWM, I have food for months . .seems boring lol. I think the next time I play, TWM becomes my retirement home. Plenty of loot and food and a beautiful landscape to free fall from, unless Ash Canyon ends up being better hahah.
  8. Day 69 - I've been lugging items back and forth from Milton to the homestead and starting setting myself up. It took over a week to do so. I ended up getting very sick walking through some of the storms and sleeping in a cave. I drank some tea and grabbed some painkillers and slept most of it off, but I feel there is nothing left in Milton for me and while I left some supplies in Hushed River Valley, I think I have more than enough to get me through. I spent a few days catching rabbits outside the house and tidying up the homestead. It looks like a good base . .I can't call it a home. This place can not be my home. I just need to find Mackenzie and get out of here. Where are you Mackenzie? I might try the Camp Office and I do believe Mackenzie said a Train ran through here. There is also cabins, a logging area and a watch tower. I think the Carter Dam is here as well from what I can remember of Mackenzie writing to me. Once I feel better I will check these places out and I should be able to find some signs of life. Day 77 - I have been to the Camp Office, the cabins, the fishing huts and the watch tower. Why are there no people here? Where did everyone go? The train was derailed, the Cabins and Camp Office look like no one has been there for ages and I just don't understand. It seems like Mystery Lake is just as abandoned as Milton. I have a few more places to check, but then where do I go from here? If only the phones worked or I could find someone who could help me. I guess in the morning I check the logging camp and check the rest of the area for people before I move on, but where?
  9. These are all great captions, haha! "It's me, 5 bullets and hungry wolves all around me, I'll just take a quick break before I leave Milton . . ."
  10. LOL. I don't believe the gas station is much warmer.
  11. How would you Caption This? I'd probably go with "Lost Hope"
  12. Day 50 - I realized I had a lot of supplies, but not a lot of food and Mackenzie had obviously left months ago. I had wishfully thought maybe he would be here, or someone would know where he was, but after spending 50 days by myself, I realize that I am truly alone. I had even tried to look for the pilot that took me here, but I couldn't see any more of the wreckage and I could not find the pilot. I hope he ended up somewhere more populated then where I was. I left Hushed Valley River, leaving some supplies behind, because I realize, even with the satchel, I was far too encumbered to climb up and down ropes. Once back in Milton, I set my wolf, rabbit and deer pelts to cure as well as the guts. Spending a few days making arrows, mitts, snares and mending my clothes, I knew it was time to leave Milton, but where would I go... Dear Astrid, It's April 3rd, 20XX, and I can not be more happy than to see the snow melt and the island get warmer. It's like the island is waking up again after a long dark sleep. Sure it's not as thriving as it used to be, but it still seems like an alright spot, even with some of the issues that the place has. But anyway, I wanted to let you know I am headed to Mystery Lake. There is a trapper by the name of Jeremiah who is going to help me out with surveying. He is a crass man, who marched me over to the Camp Office when I arrived. He seems like an alright man, definitely prefers his solitude and after giving him his space, and not asking too many personal questions we got down to business . . . Day 60 - Mystery Lake was where I made my way to after catching some food and gathering what supplies I could. I do remember Mackenzie saying there was some climbing areas, so I was glad to see the ropes were still in place and in good condition. I found an old Homestead with a note left behind. I think this was the Trapper's Homestead, from the drawing Mackenzie sent me. No one was here either, but I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, someone was here. I decided that since the Homestead was not far from Milton I would start bringing my supplies to this region and travel to Hushed River Valley. It will likely take a few days making the several trips, but for now I am exhausted hauling most of my pelts to my new home. I'm not looking forward to getting the rest.
  13. I watched a little of it and definitely too horror for me. Well done to the devs though, it's creepy af. Just not my kinda think...I'd be running scared.
  14. Maybe early settlers did. But in the game the sheep and cattle are decoys to be fed upon as I make my escape. Also there was more people than one lone man, different scenario altogether. The game will always be winter, it will never have seasons. Adding livestock is making the game into something it isn't. If you want livestock get a farming simulator not a survivalist game lol.
  15. I basically followed the cliff walls. Nice little hike up the hill near Offset and found a cave with coal and continued on. Like a day and a half hike or something. I am going to take the ice cave down and explore now.
  16. Day 32 - I made it back to Milton with no further issues, stopping at the cave in Milton Basin and picking up the cured sticks I left there. I knew my stop would be at Paradise Meadows Farm so I could get my bow and arrow made. I also found a brand new expedition parka. I should be more than ready to head to Hushed River Valley. Day 42 - I gathered supplies and my bow and arrows to make the trek to Hushed River Valley. Hushed River Valley was just as confusing, but I can armed with Mackenzie's map he drew and left at Grey Mother's. After travelling for a few days, I was able to figure out how to get to the signal fire. And right there was the moose satchel and some more wonderful supplies. I also noticed a dead body near by. He looked to have been shot, but MacKenzie never mentioned anyone else dying, he was placed out of the way. MacKenzie, what didn't you mention? Did you kill a man and hid the body in plain sight? Eroded by the elements? Why? After getting the satchel and spending the night I decided to do some exploring and made my way to Monolith Lake which had a Lake Cave near by. There seemed to have been a struggle between man and wolf. The wolf looked to have been eaten a bit and the man didn't appear to have any wounds, a few scratches maybe. I tried some of the meat, about .08 kg of it and felt sick. I threw away the rest of the meat, but the wolf pelt will be nice once cured and there was a second one in the cave as well with 2 cured guts. I decided to make the Lake Cave home for a bit, as there are rabbits nearby, before I decide to keep looking around the valley.
  17. Update, I made it. Thank you @Serenity. I got there going past offset, and following the cliff wall to the rope, and the loot never looked so good to see. Now I can explore the region more lol. The weather was rough, but I got the expedition parka and my temp never really dipped.
  18. haha, sure sure . .I thought the purpose of the post was to maintain the livestock. We're just fattening them up, easy food, except for the wildlife that's gonna try and gobble them up first.
  19. I don't believe they mentioned a time. But I wasn't expecting a time yet since they may want to coordinate it across all the platforms.
  20. I would have to hard pass for a number of reasons: The game is about survival and always moving, you can't do that with sheep or cattle. You might want their milk or meat but so do the other wildlife and this would attract them meaning you would be killing the wildlife to keep the livestock safe, but then who needs the meat from the live stock. Food for the livestock, it's currently winter. Harvest the frozen hay bales and then what, let them starve??
  21. Yeah I am not really concerned about ooh first time here I don't want it spoiled. I know the satchel can spawn there. That's the main purpose of the trip which is why I asked for areas to look for. Besides I use one of the online maps to help navigate same difference. But the map doesn't do the best job with elevation which is the major difficulty. But yeah I don't care about spoilers in a game lol. I only ask when stuck.
  22. Ok awesome. For some reason I've been having a hard time moving through the 5 sub regions that I was going in circles lol. But thank you this is very useful.
