  1. I usually go random. One of my favorite things is the moment the screen clears and you don't know exactly where you are for a moment ( or longer, before you hadn't play a billion hours and know every map like the back of your hand.) First thing I do is find shelter. No matter the time of day, I want to know where I'll be weathering out the night. If there is still daylight I'll start foraging and looting, or if an open cave is the best shelter I could get to I start collecting sticks to warm the darkness to come.
  2. That Homestead is also one of my favorites too! I really enjoy playing the more rural maps in general. I know it gets a lot of crap, but I'm a big fan of HRV as well. It might not have been my longest stay in a spot, but there was a cave in NW edge of the map that I spent a long time in while I mapped the entire valley. Never made a camp in the Ice caves though, I enjoyed the thrill of still being out in the elements a bit, worried about the bear and wolves! ...man... This is a great game ❤️
  3. What's funny is that I had even forgotten how much I loved this piece of music. I'd meant for a long time now to join the forums so i could ask this, but pulling the music up for the above clip reminded me of what I missed. I've started listening to it while I'm working at my desk. So lovely I know Hinterland has more pressing things to work on (new episodes, working while in a pandemic, ect). But one day, this would be a swell thing to have back ❤️ Love ya Hinterland !
  4. I 100% feel it should be an option for you once you've survived the obstacle course. Everyone should have to do it once, but then there's a place where, if you remember to do it before you go, you can tie a rope, or activate some machinery that makes it accessible from the ground. Of course that's because platforming makes me nervous #sweatykeyboard
  5. NICE! closest to this happening to me was, once I shot a bear and a blizzard hit, so I went back to the cannery huts and in the morning I went to go find my prize and he was right behind the houses.
  6. A word of caution on retrieving your lost goods. WAIT! I can't tell you how many times I got mauled a 2nd time because I was brazen and ran back for my goods as soon as I was on my feet. I suggest a retreat, lick your wounds and the cautiously return for your stuff.
  7. I think the most jaw dropping death I had ( as in, you were so shocked at dying so dumb you just stare slack jawed at the screen)... I was in HRV and I was freezing in a blizzard (I think I was around 50 days in trying to beat my personal record just surviving only in the new area) but I knew I was close to my ice cave base. I start sprinting, certain of my footing until...oops... there's the drop into the river valley! Whheeeeeee and splat! (face palm)
  8. Exactly. There was something soothing to the heart when that music welcomed you back. Well, here's hoping we get our classic back, while not by any means a deal break, it would be nice.
  9. @odizzido I love the new one also! I'm more referring to the lack of music during the credit scroll BEFORE the menus screen. It's currently just 15 seconds of silence, and it bums me out.
  10. Like many others, I find stress relief and comfort in The Long Dark with both the stunning scenery and beautiful music. Because of this is desperately miss the "Main Theme" (link below) that used to play during the opening credit roll before the menu screen. I'd launch the game, and that haunting piano would start as the Hinterland logo appeared and I'd feel the long work day melt away. I'd love it to come back, or really any of the other new original tracks to play instead of the silence the proceeds the menu screen. Anyone else out there feel the same? or know why this was changed? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts.
  11. This past year I finally caught wise to this! I noticed, even in stalker or hard-ish custom modes, if you calmly just keep moving and are in good condition you can make it a long way without the wolf actually attacking. This has saved me a lot of hassle. Also, it might be a bit cheap, but when I got a wolf following me and it's a ways back to shelter, if possible I'll carefully jump down some difficult terrain and then book it at the bottom. That usually shakes them. Good list btw! Very helpful stuff in there!
  12. @Hadrian I hate that things have been hard for you, but I'm glad to see even this won't dim your hopeful spirit. It's one of the big reasons I enjoy your TLD vids. You play to entertain and bring joy and your fans appreciate it. Keep on keepin' on my dude ❤️
  13. I'm also a fan! Any additional adjustables to the custom difficult mode will always be welcome.
  14. My gaming laptop sits under our AC vent. So I'll be playing and the air will kick on. My husband laughed at me because I've covered myself in a blanket even though it's blazing outside. Gotta love the atmosphere in TLD. My favorite is the loud silence it has... If that makes any sense. The wind through the trees. So good!
  15. @ManicManiac I started utilizing the custom difficulty system to make something between Stalker (I can survive forever with my eyes closed) and Interloper (OMG what!?) I've been enjoying that, and of course this new event! Fun times in TLD!
  16. @ManicManiac Holy Cow! That is a Challenge with a capitol C! Good luck my dude. Meanwhile I can barely last a week in Interloper.
  17. Yuuuup! I'm just enjoying the novelty consumables and the cold weather and blizzards. "We don't need no stinking badges!"
  18. @ManicManiac What is your personal challenge? If you don't mind my asking.
  19. lol! I love when I see something IRL that makes me think of looting in a game. We have a .22 rifle that looks similar to TLD rifle and everytime I see it I have a millisecond of excitement that I found a rifle... I'm such a dork!
  20. I'm a fan of adding restrictions and challenges if a game gets stale. In Skyrim I made my character eat regularly and sleep every night. In Stranded deep I refused to use the smoker and always harvested fish, shark, ect as soon as they were downed to make food spoil more realistically. Just use your imagination!
  21. I feel the same way! The first 2 or 3 days of a run are just about my favorite. The rush of seeing where you spawned, the race to make decisions "Do I press on for the better supplies and lose condition, or do I hunker down here and starve for a night?" Damn! I love this game. I was super excited to catch this event (albeit late). I work in the medical field so it's been hard lately to find the time and energy to play. But something new was a welcome surprise when I did finally log in.
  22. So excited to get in and play with all these new features! I feel so spoiled, all my survival games seem to be dropping updates.... How do I choose!?
  23. If you haven't tried the game "Stranded Deep" you should. It's still working the bugs out, but it's gorgeous and tropical and has lots of sharks. Sharks... you know... water wolves!
  24. Oh boy... you got me so excited for a second there! "New stuff in HRV!?! I must go play!!"
