  1. it wasn't cherry picking I was referring to that one phrase only the rest was, in that instance, irrelevant to clarify I did read the whole post and yes I may have taken it out of context it's impossible to tell how you meant it but I also can't help how it sounds to me it doesn't matter what you prefer I do in my playthrough it's my playthrough and I will play it how I prefer not how you prefer. If you didn't mean to appear as if you wanted to control how people play then perhaps you should of said something other than "I'd prefer folks..." the prefer part is where it appears you want players to play a specific way which comes off as if you wish to control peoples playthroughs, I cannot help how I read it, the phrasing is at fault here. If the preset difficulties was intended by hinterland then why did they ever add custom what you say seems to suggest players are rewarded for playing one way and punished for playing their way I don't think that was hinterlands point of the restriction. I think it's more about them being worried that someone would make an easier than pilgrim run to get the feats quickly (which in their eyes) ruin the point of feats which is challenge. in reality though I still disagree even though I understand the reason hinterland added this restriction. I don't like being punished for playing custom and no before you say just play the preset difficulties I will say no I am not going to play a mode that I find no enjoyment from.
  2. I came back to this after another thread being made and just noticed this part and just have to ask why do you care how people plays the game? this sounds as if you wish to control peoples playthroughs. If it's added as an option within custom mode then it doesn't affect you in anyway.
  3. I thought I recognized your username
  4. True but it requires an Aurora which may or may not occur whilst being in BI I made a thread on this before stating that the cleaning kits should be attached to rifle and revolver availability and not BRA. Also loot can be at least influenced slightly by setting the empty container modifier to high and loose items to low overall there's more loot than low BRA but not pilgrim and voyager amounts.
  5. I used to play exclusively stalker before the addition of custom but ever since it's addition I've played exclusively custom as I always wanted to play interloper but absolutely hate not being able to get a rifle so custom solved that issue the only problem is baseline resources availability has to be set to medium (or high) or you won't get a cleaning kit so unfortunately loot is plentiful.
  6. In the other thread there was some who disagreed with the addition of feat progression on custom so I assume they would absolutely hate if feats progressed on custom so it being an option would allow anyone who wants it to have it and if someone doesn't then they can leave it off only to have feats progress on the preset difficulties.
  7. 1. We have the crampons now so I'm not against or for a climbing feat 2.love the idea of candle, not being able to read or repair due to it being dark and not having a fire is generally annoying the only thing I'm unsure of is how candle would work do they burn out (they should) If so what do you do to replenish them? 3.you can already place items I don't know what it is on PC but on PS4 you drop everything then press L2 to move it where you like. 4. You already said you could guess why the devs wouldn't add a compass so you may already know this. as much as I agree that navigation isn't exactly easy I disagree with this as lore wise it wouldn't work the geomagnetic storm that caused the power to go out would cause compasses to spin wildly. (That being said if they haven't changed anything you can drop an arrow and it will point exactly north) I do wish there was an option in custom sandbox to put a tracker on the map to show the players position. It already exists in wintermute so all they would have to do is give an option to toggle it on or off in custom mode. 5. Would love a way to keep things hot for longer periods of time I agree with this suggestion 6. More animals are always a plus in my book as long as it's properly implemented i.e not to OP too many animals then meat would be more plentiful than it already is. Not for sure I like the idea of mice destroying my gear though that sounds like it might be more annoying than anything else.
  8. If it's optional I'm fine with it even though I am one who wants feat progression in custom. I would prefer it to be optional that way the ones who want it has it, but the ones who don't can leave it off. I exclusively play custom so I have no progress on any feats as I don't play any of the other 4 modes, as they are not my playstyle. Stalker has too much loot but interloper doesn't provide hatchets, knives, rifles or the revolver. So I play a custom sandbox with guns but less loot (somewhat unfortunately baseline resource availability has to be set to medium or cleaning kits won't spawn. I made a thread on this not too long ago) I have way more fun in custom than in the 4 preset modes so I always avoided them so feats are completely unused for me. The reason why some people are defensive over it is unfortunately in the gaming world some people feels there is a right way and wrong way of playing games they want people to play it the right way (which is usually their way) or they get mad just look up any long dark gameplay you'll see a few people complain on the way they play. One youtuber I watch is Accurize2 he starves his character only to eat before bed he gets so many people saying that it's an exploit and not the way your "supposed" to play when in reality there isn't anything wrong with it at all and is something you would do irl it even has a name, it's called rationing. Nonetheless there are some people who are very defensive I can understand if the changes are forced as then it directly affects them but if it's optional then it only affects the ones who wish to use it. I don't get the mentality to complain of a feature if you can just turn it on or off. If you want it well go for it, if you don't then leave it off, simple.
  9. There's a whole other thread on this topic and I don't agree with this way feats should be in all modes and carry over. any feat unlocked in interloper should be usable in pilgrim or vise versa but I don't agree with simply enabling feats on custom either it should be an option, as I said in the other thread, just like we can turn intestinal Parasites on or off you should be able to enable feat progression or not in custom.
  10. That's an interesting concept and would make sense as irl you can't just pick up a gun for the first time and expect to hit your target you must learn how to properly aim. Though i'm for it I am still a big lover of optional additions so the ones who like the system the way it is isn't forced to use something they might not like
  11. Aiming on PC is always easier you just point really with consoles it will be more difficult as you can't simply just point at your target it takes a bit more skill to line up a shot. The gyro is a personal preference I personally feel it's a nightmare to use in other games and would believe it to be the same in The Long Dark so if they add it I would prefer it to be an optional setting.
  12. I'm with the side that wants feats to progress on custom sandbox as I don't have any fun in the preset difficulties as they aren't my playstyle. Due to this I play exclusively custom this unfortunately removes a major feature of the game for me. I do however agree that hinterland shouldn't simply enable feat progression on custom. Instead, I think it should be an option within custom just like you can turn intestinal Parasites on or off there should be an enable feat progression option. This would give the ones like me, who doesn't find enjoyment in the 4 preset modes, an opportunity to progress our feats in custom runs but people like you could still have feat progression exclusive to the preset modes.
  13. This actually already exists in Custom sandbox there is a setting to wake the player if freezing near a fire also irl you actually wouldn't wake if freezing as cold temperatures generally makes a person more tired.
  14. I heard plenty of people that plays this game on PC that the controls on console isn't the best, is it really that bad? I never have had any problem with the controls or deadzone I find it easy to control. I've never played PC so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me as I don't have anything to compare it to. Still not against a deadzone slider even though I have no issue with it more customization would be great. The gyro control though sounds like a nightmare to use I've used gyro controls before on other games as well as the PS4 on screen keyboard and it is well painful as it is not responsive at all to just use it during typing I nearly have to point the controller at me just to get it to the edge of the on screen keyboard.
  15. So I decided to create a scenario using the endless Night option. I have no clue how good nor do I know if someone has already made a scenario similar to this one. This scenario uses mostly interloper settings with only 3 changes. I am usually bad at creating a story so I just made a quick summary of what is going on. (The lore is just filler to explain the never rising sun really) Lonely Earth is a scenario in which something happened to the sun miraculously Earth didn't get destroyed but it is now adrift in the cold vacuum of space, lonely with no sun to keep it warm it will only get colder, it is now forever dark and death is inevitable. Changes: Starting weather clear (it's night so this will at least give you a chance to get your bearings) Aurora Frequency None (no sun means no Aurora) Endless Night Yes code: 8sHM-bD8P-axsj-maGO-wcIB I would imagine this scenario to be fairly difficult considering it is always dark. light sources will become vital and well it (for all intent and purposes) is interloper so matches will be scarce and some items like the magnifying glass will be rendered useless. Please let me know what you think of this scenario happy surviving
  16. Multiplayer won't happen the long dark has always been single player everything is designed for single player it would take too much development time to make multiplayer happen plus hinterland has said before that they will not be adding multiplayer to the long dark they did say that maybe in a future game yes but the long dark will forever remain a single player game. This is from the frequently asked questions this is what it says about multiplayer "Q: Are you ever going to add multiplayer? A: We’re still focused on making THE LONG DARK the best single-player survival story we can. That said, we’re always looking for ways to make THE LONG DARK experience even more compelling. If we found a way to create an experience for more than one player that was true to the spirit of THE LONG DARK, we’d consider it. But, it’d likely be a separate, stand-alone game, as THE LONG DARK has not been designed, nor its systems or code architected, to support more than one player. And as you might imagine, creating these different types of experiences requires a lot of effort and resources. We’re a small studio that cares very much about quality, so this means focusing on doing one thing very well, before moving on to new things"
  17. It is free on the Epic games store until December 20th 11:00am Eastern
  18. Yeah if cleaning kits was attached to the rifle and revolver option then base interloper would still not have them spawn since rifle and revolver spawn are set to no on base interloper. So for people who prefers base interloper then nothing major will change
  19. This is a simple request to just either have another setting in custom sandbox to allow cleaning Kits to spawn or attach cleaning kits to rifle and revolver availability. As of now, If you create a custom sandbox and have 'baseline resource availability' set to low, then cleaning kits won't spawn even if rifles are allowed. This doesn't make sense since the cleaning kit is a tool for the rifle. Is this by design or was it an oversight? I personally don't play interloper because I'm not a fan of the no gun rule it comes with. It never really made sense to me as it is an isolated region with bears and wolves. The people of Great Bear would've had rifles meaning you should find one eventually. I would love to do a custom interloper run with rifles and revolvers allowed but unfortunately I have to set baseline resources to medium just so the cleaning kits for them can even spawn. This is unfortunate since I'm forced to use medium or above. I would prefer less resources spawning, as on medium I'm a walking buffet with more food than I know what to do with. If I have a rifle or revolver set to spawn I should have the cleaning kits spawning as well, or why have them if they'll eventually break anyway. I know you can repair the rifle and revolver at BI but it requires the aurora to be active and that is kinda unpredictable and I personally would just rather have the cleaning kits. BI is really just a convenience if I happen to be lucky enough to get an Aurora while there. On another note, a separate option to allow knives and hatchets to spawn even if baseline resources are set to low would be fantastic, cause just like the rifles, I personally don't believe you would go to an isolated island and not find at least 1 knife and hatchet laying about.
  20. I like the idea to be able to walk while aiming the revolver it feels odd that your survivor has to stand still to aim I understand (sorta) why they done it but still wouldn't mind seeing them change it. As for a compass that won't work as the game lore is based off of a geomagnetic disaster that's why the power is out, a massive solar flare screwed up the Earth's magnetic field disrupting electricity completely only to be partially restored during an Aurora. This geomagnetic disaster would cause the compass to just spin around. The rest I'm not sure would be good for the game minus the backpack but as of now that has been added
  21. Maybe for high end PCs, ps5 and xbox series X but I highly doubt this game would run if it was all one instance on ps4 or xbox one. If it does then I wouldn't be surprised if it drops performance a bit. It would also require a redesign of the map to properly connect all the regions cause as it is now when entering a new region the previous one unloads while the new one is loaded in so they aren't really connected, it's more of a teleportation to the new region. Though if hinterland could pull it off I wouldn't be against it as it'll definitely improve immersion but I wouldn't keep your hopes up as it isn't as simple as just removing loading screen it's a bit of a technical issue that may break the game without the loading screens.
  22. It isn't second nature to me. I have made a quick decision based on the temperature or weight while forgetting that I was in a different measurement system than I'm used this usually cause me to have to divert my original plan due to the temperature or weight not being what I actually thought it was and in worse case scenario I have actually died due to this. this death is probably the most annoying due to it being easily preventable yet unfortunately with my poor memory I always forget. It also really wouldn't take that much time as everything is really already there all they got to do is add the option. Option 2 would only be an extra setting on the system you choose that being metric, imperial or metric & imperial. Option 1 just separates temps and weight allowing one to have metric temperatures with imperial weight or imperial temperatures with metric weight for the ones who use only metric or imperial then they would just set both temperatures and weight to the same system they wish to use. And yes they don't have to cater to us it's their game they can do what they wish but they are open to suggestions if they wasn't this wish list wouldn't exist. It does so I suggested a feature that I believe would be a quality of life feature for those of us who uses both systems.
  23. I normally use the metric system while playing the game, but I'm not fully accustomed to metric. For example, I'm better with celsius than I am with fahrenheit, yet I'm better with pounds than I am with kilograms. I'm from the US so I grew up with the imperial system, but I've been trying to learn metric since majority of the world uses it. This has caused a small predicament for me as now I have to (as of now) rely on both metric and imperial to fully understand everything. I use metric for temps and distance, but imperial for weight. My thought was, what if a hybrid system could be added to the game? Currently we can choose between metric or imperial in game, but why not both? 2 ways this can be done. 1: Have weight and temperature separate from one another. This will allow one to do metric for temperatures and imperial for weight or vise versa. 2: Have a hybrid system where it shows both metric and imperial units in game. For example, if the temp says 0°C, it'll say 0°C/32°F. Same for weight. This would be very useful for me since I use both metric and imperial. Also it can help me learn kilograms just a bit faster.
  24. Isn't the temp of buildings always above freezing though? If not then it doesn't make sense how we are getting liquid water from toilets.
  25. If you base it on the story the place is deserted shortly after the disaster and in survival mode upon loading in a run it says "a geomagnetic disaster brought down your plane...' by that statement we can conclude at most the areas have been abandoned for a day. The water in the tank would still be safe also considering it's cold, bacteria would take longer to grow as they thrive in warm environments.
