  1. Maybe but there isn't a way to tell if the radio is switched on without an aurora so it may or may not work.
  2. I can agree with this Instead as it gives the player a chance which is ultimately my point.
  3. Yep it definitely is. by the way in case you're interested I edited my reply and added a response of your opinion on the feat restriction you replied before I saved that change.
  4. They unlocked the Endless Night option in the hesitate prospect update so now everyone has Endless Night, no matter if you played ETDW or not. (Edit) As for what you said in general for custom, I agree there is a whole thread about feats being restricted on custom. I said before that the restriction feels like a punishment for playing how we want, I don't find enjoyment with the 4 preset modes so I exclusively play custom this unfortunately means that I'll never get feats unlocked
  5. True that is the reason I mentioned the whole it drops your temperature as well as increases your risk of hypothermia. As for calories I starve my survivor, I only eat before bed, so that isn't a problem. Yes it would lead to dehydration but this isn't something you would constantly do it is nothing more than a last resort if you don't have a way to light a fire. Eating snow is purely for if you don't have a way of starting a fire and you are dehydrated it will give you a small boost to water allowing you to maybe find something to start a fire but it also puts you on a time limit as now you more in likely have hypothermia so once you find a fire starter then you have to get warm quickly or it's guaranteed death this is why it's such a last resort option and still gets the message that eating snow in a survival situation is best avoided. And it was hard to get out of Ash canyon for me I didn't know the map at all and it was night making it impossible to see
  6. you already made a thread suggesting these animals try not to make multiple threads of the same thing as it tends to separate the discussion. It's one thing if different people make threads of the same topic as that just shows that the feature is wanted by more than one person and can provide a different view on the topic, but if the same person makes multiple threads of the same topic then it just, as I said before, separates the discussion. I'll quote what I said on your other thread. Edit- I just noticed this thread came before the other thread you made but my point still stands about one person making multiple threads of the same topic.
  7. You can't repair them? Surely that is a bug or oversight if not that makes them completely worthless, why have them if they'll eventually break?

    Season

I remember hinterland saying that seasons won't be added as it's a technical problem basically the whole game would have to be rebuilt to make it work I.E maps redesigned to show the seasonal changes, different ways to collect water since snow would be gone in the warmer months, different routes as during the warmer seasons some areas will become inaccessible I.E jackrabbit island etc. Hinterland is by no means a large company so this would take a lot of time and effort also The Long Dark in summer would be ultimately boring as a major challenge is removed that being the cold. The inevitable death is something that a majority of the community likes about the long dark. It gives survival a end more or less if you could get to a stage where you wouldn't ever die no matter what then suddenly the challenge is gone and the game would become boring. as it is now there is an end that end is death survival mode isn't survive forever it's survive for as long as you can. Long story short the long dark is ultimately built around winter it would have to be completely resigned to add seasons thus it will more in likely never be added maybe in a future hinterland survival game but not the long dark.
  9. I just came from a thread talking about snow and water and it gave me an idea. A new feature, the ability to eat snow. This is an ultimately last resort action for if you don't have water or the materials to start a fire. The way this would work is you would equip a tin can then look at the snow to collect some in the tin can, then you can eat the snow. This will slightly hydrate you, maybe like 15%, just enough to maybe save your life. The downside is it comes with a risk of making you sick just like drinking nonpotable water, as well as dropping your temperature and giving you a risk of hypothermia. Not too long ago I spawned in ash canyon and I eventually ran out of water and had no fire starting materials. This ability, though risky, could have saved my run just long enough to find some of those pesky matches lol
  10. I always had a deep wish to see snow added as an item. I always felt it was odd that I can melt some snow while in an area with no snow near, i.e inside a cave or building. You don't know? it's well known that when boiling water you get a waste product called a bottle. 😂 seriously though I think this is more for balance. if you can't find a bottle then it could be the end of your run simply due to RNG. As much as it doesn't make sense, I am against forcing players to find bottles just to carry water. As for the 2 litter of snow part, I don't really think it is 2 litters of snow for say, instead it's your survivor actively collecting enough snow for 2 litters of water, it just doesn't show that collection of snow. Like I said before I am against forcing the player to find a container just to carry water as this could end a run due to RNG, though I'm not against the addition of a thermos. Instead of the thermos being needed for carrying water it's use would be to keep things warm for longer. The tea kettle, I'm not against it if I don't have anything to do while water is boiling then having it boil quickly is great but I wouldn't use it much. I normally read or do repairs while making water and I rarely don't have something to do. Since I agree that snow should be it's own item but disagree about forcing players to need a container to carry water I semi disagree with this instead when you go outside to collect snow you would choose how much water you want I.E if you want 2L it will give you enough snow for 2L of water. It will be in a magic container just like water bottles. (again if you're forced to need a container then it's up to RNG if you're run lasts or not) I definitely like the idea of it melting on it's own if the snow is stored within a building that is above freezing. This would ultimately make water purification tablets much more useful. As it is now water purification tablets serve only to save some time. in order to get nonpotable water you need a fire anyway and most would just boil the water after melting snow. As for water freezing again this is more of balance it would ultimately make sense but would probably just be an annoyance. All in all I agree with some points here but not all of them.
  11. That's another reason why I wouldn't have it as an alarm clock and just a device that makes a sound once powered. Obviously it would be silent if the aurora isn't present then active when it is. It would have a switch that if pressed in would be on, but if you press it in again it would pop up turning it off (this is so it doesn't constantly make a sound during the whole of the Aurora) Or it could be that it's on a timer. Once it's powered the sound will last for a minute waking the player, then it would go off. Then when the aurora stops this timer resets, allowing it to repeat once powered again. Kinda like how if you unplug an alarm clock without the cell battery it resets the time back to 12:00
  12. I would love this, maybe not an alarm clock for say as that would be very heavy to lug around. Instead it could be a small watch sized object that you could craft or find that will make a noise to wake you up when the aurora starts. Don't know what you would use to craft such an object, maybe you must find a watch that you will then repurpose into this aurora watch or it is crafted from scratch. The resources for if it's crafted from scratch would be scrap metal, this is for the device housing, a PCB (Circuit Board,) this could be acquired from the various electronics around you (I.E the computers at carter hydro dam), and maybe something else like a band or chain so you can wear it. In the end if hinterland adds a craftable device like this it will be ultimately up to them on the resources required to craft it. It probably would just be simpler if it can be found on a dead body with a note explaining that they invented a device to sound when the Aurora starts.
  13. I disagree. This addition wouldn't make sense due to the geomagnetic storm, meaning the chainsaw would only work during an Aurora, and I don't see anyone actively going out at night during an aurora as wolves are more dangerous and it is colder. Not to mention by the time you find this "unique" item (unique implies it's rare) you would more in likely have decent clothes, making any interior above freezing, and that's without a fire.
  14. This still wouldn't work, electric or not, the geomagnetic storm disrupts anything electrical and a chainsaw even though it's powered by gas, it still has an electrical component that being the spark plug. Due to the geomagnetic storm the spark plug wouldn't provide a spark. That means no combustion, which means the chainsaw wouldn't work. The cars don't work for this exact reason as well.
  15. Thanks I see I just looked at the most easily comparable thing I could think of and the first thing that popped in my head was water everyone handles water. I probably should've done more research before straight up saying the weights are realistic I stand by corrected some weights are a bit off than what they would be irl
  16. 1. The in game description of the crampons says "Traction, for your feet. Rope climbing drains less Stamina, Sprains are less frequent, and you can travel with more confidence over Weak Ice" for the tallest ropes there should be ledges that you can stop off at to let your stamina recover. just watch your fatigue as you don't want it to drop too low or you'll get stuck on this ledge it's best to have a few cups of coffee or the energy drink. 2. If you can create it then this would probably mean the addition of a new item, wax or the ability to create wax. 3.lol don't worry it took me a while to discover this as well. I discovered it last year accidentally after bumping L2 while looking at a pile of items I had dropped. 4. I think you may be getting the Aurora and geomagnetic storm mixed up the storm is always going on, the aurora is just a side effect of the changes in the magnetic field. The picture on the left is what the magnetic field should look like but in the long dark it looks more like the one on the right. This is why compasses wouldn't work 5. Lol yeah I always found it kin6 hilarious that our survivor could drink straight boiling water from the campfire and not get any effect from it like warmth or burns (seriously though it should be burns lol) 6. Not against new animals just don't like the earlier suggestion that mice can destroy gear that as I said before just sounds annoying. 7. Not against this. it could open for a more dynamic cooking system where we could properly make dishes. Hinterland made the wish list for exactly that reason, to listen they obviously won't add everything if they did this game would derail massively imagine If they added grenades to the game, and yes I know someone who thinks grenades should be in this game 😂
  17. I always play stingily so I absolutely hate leaving anything behind, I have that "it may come in useful while I'm exploring" mentality so I'm always carrying simple or quality tools, a hatchets, knife, heavy hammer, hacksaw, etc whilst going exploring or on a loot run. It's especially bad with food, I occasionally may leave tools behind during a loot run but I've never leave food even though 2 to 3 day's of food would be good I generally always have well over a weeks worth of food like well above 20kg of food alone so obviously I struggle with carrying capacity, the backpack is a more of a blessing in disguise for me now only if I could move faster to get to it hmm. 😂
  18. Ah I've never seen nor head of fisher cats before so I'm not for sure what they are. As for the old bear I'm assuming you are suggesting a more difficult bear varient as bears already exists. The hunting portion of this would require a redesign of the AI tracking currently animals have designated spawn areas and predatoes have a patrol path and they generally don't stray from that path unless they tag you or get scared but after they "reset" they will return to their original patrol path. Other than that I'm indecisive of an addition of a tougher bear in survival mode.
  19. That sounds cool but unfortunately I don't think the game could handle it seems like a technical headache for hinterland to program this feature. More animals are always a plus if implemented properly. Obviously they can't add too much or it'll throw off the balance of the game that being said elk would just be like the current deer the same but different name and look though variety wouldn't be terrible I just don't see what it would add gameplay wise. Mountain lions, (also know as a puma or cougars) that I just don't see it fitting with The Long Dark in my head it just doesn't fit the feel of the game though of course I wouldn't know for sure until it is added and that's an if it's added. Like always any major change like this I would prefer to have the option to disable it in custom mode. Lastly I'm not for sure what you meant by "fishers" do you mean more fish species? If so I wouldn't be against it, it would be visual as it really doesn't affect how much you get they'll just look different. Eh to be honest I feel this would hurt the game as one of the challenges is to stay warm there is trees aplenty in the game so if you could just simply chop some trees then suddenly have a constantly above freezing shack wherever you wish then a major survival aspect would become non existent that being temperature. Not to mention in a survival situation you wouldn't build a full on shack especially since you're already near some pre-built ones. I will offer a replacement suggestion though. I wouldn't mind seeing a buildable lean-to shelter made with sticks and a bunch of cloth it would be cheaper than a snowshelter and it won't provide as much protection from the cold as a snowshelter, but will provide a wind shield so fires won't blow out as easy.
  20. The weights in game are not unrealistic irl an average person who is in decent shape can easily carry 45kg our survivor would be in fairly decent shape considering all that walking. Items weights seem pretty accurate I obviously haven't looked at everything in game but 1L of water in game vweighs 1kg, just like in real life. If anything is off I'm sure it not by much.
  21. Thanks for letting me know I'm going to leave my reply as is though as the changes you made are roughly the same as what you originally said so my points still stand.
  22. None of our view points are wrong as they are nothing more than a matter of opinion but this is why I'm for an option even if I was against feat progression on custom I would still be for the option as it satisfies both the ones who wants it as well as the ones who doesn't.
  23. Yes I remember I rarely played back then it was either too easy (Stalker) or lose some features (Interloper with no gun spawns) a friend I knew stoped playing completely only to return after custom sandbox was added, I nearly shelved the game then too I only kept going hoping it would improve, one day. Yes they don't owe anyone anything but clearly hinterland is for the player if the community dislikes this feat restriction then I'm sure hinterland will eventually add an option to toggle feat progression on or off in custom or remove the restrictions all together. I disagree I'm glad they give us the freedom to customize our runs but unfortunately they didn't give us the freedom to earn the same feats as the preset modes. In my opinion it is punishment as I'm forced to play a way I don't enjoy in order to unlock something that should be accessible no matter what mode you play in. I will never unlock feats as I cannot sit in the preset modes to unlock them as in my opinion the preset modes are boring I only find enjoyment in custom. I'm punished as I can't use a feature of the game due to a restriction of the only mode I enjoy. I'm thankful we have custom as well I wouldn't be playing this game if we didn't but I am, and many others, aren't happy with not earning progress in custom this is why a simple option to enable feat progression in custom would solve both of our view points I can have feat progression in custom by enabling it and you can leave it off.
  24. I personally like it 5kg isn't that much in the grand scheme of things and it makes the backpack feel like a valuable reward for the difficulties in acquiring it I feel if they nerf it I wouldn't be motivated to get it. Ash Canyon is very difficult and to risk a long running run for only 2.5kg wouldn't be worth. It spawning in a different region would also take away incentive to visit ash canyon.
  25. This is what I don't understand Why can't long term custom player earn those same rewards why are we punished for not playing the modes we don't enjoy?
