  1. I have no coat yet. And yes... it is as cold as it looks, lol. But Josephine is stylin', after finding those ragged jeans, the toque and the balaclava. In the words of Fernando Lamas: "It is better to look good, than to feel good, and dahling... you look mahvelous."
  2. Spawn in on Stalker, and have only matches to start a fire and scare a wolf off, and spawn in with wolves right around you. You spawn in outdoors. You have no house to loot to get flares, a revolver, shells, ect. You don't spawn in with flares, a rifle, a knife, a hatchet, a hammer, a revolver, a bow or arrows. You need to be able to evade the wolves that are out to rip your face off from minute 1, so you can live long enough to go find them. It isn't about forgetting to carry them. It is about being able to get somewhere to find them, first. If you want more role-playing, you are free to gather stones in a blizzard, take the time to lay them out on the ground, and then build your fire. You HAVE that option. Your idea would force me to play your way, and I am not interested in doing that. I accept the un-realities in the game, because they make for more enjoyable, less stressful, less tedious gameplay for me, especially in Stalker, where I am not the hunter, I am the hunted, from the minutes I start the game on Day 1. I like to do crazy, risky hand over had free solo rock climbing in my games. i think that is fun. Not everyone does. I would not insist on a major change to the game that forced everyone to climb everything without any ropes. My role-playing is being a free solo rock-climber, like I used to be IRL. Not everyone wants to play that in their games. I do it by choice, and enjoy my role play. And I know I risk hurting or killing my character doing so. But I have a free choice to do it or not. I am not forced to do it because it adds more "realism" to the game for me.You feel free to lug around 20 lbs of stones, and lay them out on the ground every time you want to build a fire. Again, you have an idea. I do not like it, I would not upvote it. Others may choose differently. But my vote is "No.", no matter how you try to make your idea sound "appealing". To me, it is unappealing. And would honestly make me stop playing if I was forced to play it that way. We can agree to disagree. But please, don't try to tel me your opinion is better than mine, They are both equal. *shrugs*
  3. First you have to find flares or a revolver and shells. I can start a fire in Stalker and below from minute 1, since I have matches when I spawn in, as long as I can grab a few sticks right away. And sticks are everywhere. I don't like the idea, sorry. Too much "IRL realism" that would make the game a chore, rather than a fun experience for me.
  4. It would bother me quite a bit, 5 small stones would not build our campfire with cooking stones. I can't see lugging 20lb of rocks with me everywhere to be able to build a campfire in a hurry, and some areas we do not have interactive stones we can pick up and lug to the spot we want to build one at. Imagine trying to get a wolf to "Just hang on buddy, wait there while I go scrounge up a bunch of stones, so I can build a fire ring, so I can keep you from charging, and scare you away...". That honestly would make the game TOO realistic, and kill off a lot of the fun and spontaneity of it for me, and other people, I am sure. I can only imagine the angry complaint threads if they did this... Meanwhile, I downloaded the hotfix, and Steam went offline for their weekly maintenance right after, lol. Headed back now that Steam is back online, because I know I can play without the Steam Client running, but I lose Steam Cloud saves and the Steam screenshots. And I like my screenshots, a lot. :)
  5. Glad you made it. And glad to see your question in the Milton Mailbag. Good forums here, much less dramatic than Steam. I hope you'll be glad you came on over. The pace tends to be slower here, which can be very nice. Hope to see you joining in the discussions and giving some of you feedback and insights. Now, time to watch some Monty Python clips, until the hotfix drops on Steam and XBox One.
  6. Hey Wolran! Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy your visits here, and are able to find the answers you need to questions you have. And to share your feedback and insights as time goes on. We were all new here, and to the game, at some point also. Nice to meet you! Stay safe and stay warm!
  7. The old website... I miss the section where the team was listed with short bios. I get why it was removed. But, I still miss being able to go see who is working on the game. It felt like I could connect to the people working at the studio more as human beings, not just anonymous avatars on the Internet. It was interesting to see a short bio, with devs listing some of their former work. It just made everyone more easy to relate to as people, and made me think of them as individuals, humans, not nameless machines working behind a screen. So the question is... any chance the studio would consider adding something like that back, on the website, in the "Studio" section? With each person giving their own short bio, no contact info, used with permission of each person only, of course. Maybe first names only, no photos unless they felt comfortable with it, just an avatar of their choosing (done in TLD style, of course...)? Or do you feel this could place you, the studio, or individual staff members at risk? (I know you had death threats in the past... which sucks- these things should not happen, but they do these days...). Just curious, I know family and friends who would like to get to know your team better, and I feel like that section on the old website gave me that opportunity. But, again, I know it also gave haters more opportunity to target people or the studio at times, and online privacy is a huge issue these days. Sorry for rambling, just a random thought that came up when my family and I were talking about the game with a few friends who also bought the game, because of our obsession with it, lol.
  8. 12 years old, and I was invincible, even though I have brittle Insulin Dependent Type 1 diabetes. I packed glucose tablets and food, always, and my medical supplies, and knew better than to go on a dayhike and solo climbing jaunt. But... I did it anyway. I was only going to a place everyone knew about, so, nothing bad could happen, right? And if it did, someone would know where to look for me. Okay, after they looked in the other hundred places in the woods around us, including the old mine we all knew about and like to go explore. Yeah, dumb kid. I was. I think I was mad at my brother or something, and had grabbed my backpack without checking to make sure I had my insulin and glucose tabs and some food. Food I had, but no insulin, no glucose tablets. So I got to my favorite climbing area, only about a 40 foot cliff-face. Fairly "easy" route, we all knew it and were familiar with it. But... usually we had someone go up top and rig a climbing rope and a pick-off rope, and climbed the route with the rope loosely attached in case we slipped or missed a hold. I decided, knowing I shouldn;t, that I was going to free solo it. I had climbed it a hundred times before. No problems, a few greasy holds i knew about and made sure i had another good hold along with. Until the last 10 feet or so, where there was a spot where h you had to let go and push off to grab the last handhold, and then you could get your feet plane ted and all was good for the last bit up over the edge. The last handhold broke off in my hand as I grabbed it. Down I went, about 30 feet. Luckily there were some huge wild rhododendron bushes below, and I landed on-in one. Lots of small puncture wounds, lacerations, and a really twisted up leg. Nothing broken, just muscle pulls and tears, and some minor bleeding. Got out of the bush, and could not find my pack. Physical exertion and adrenaline... my blood glucose level was dropping, fast. And with hypoglycemia, I get confused quickly. When your brain is starving for sugar energy, it does not work so well. I think I crawled around on the ground screaming, looking for my pack. No one was around, so no one heard me yelling for help. No one knew where I was. I found my pack, ate all the food I had inside, and limped back home. No one was home when I got there. They were all out looking for me. (This was 41 years ago... we had no cell phones...). Which gave me time to get out of my muddy, torn, bloody clothing and jump in the shower. Mom was the first back to check the house. And she found me in the shower, looking like I had been chewed up and spit out by something with big teeth. And my pile of bloodied clothes on the bathroom floor did not make her calm down, happy to see me. She freaked. i think I was grounded for a month, which is about how long it took me to heal up from my injuries anyway. But... still. I did a "dumb kid" thing that day. And lucked out, and did not get more seriously injured, or have more serious issues with my diabetes. Needless to say, everyone was happy I was okay, and I learned a number of valuable lessons that day. But I didn't stop climbing, or caving, or hiking. I just made sure I did them more "smartly". Never alone, and never without letting people know where I was going, what i had planned, and when i should be back. I've had worse injuries from caving accidents, and had some bad times backpacking in the desert in high Summer. But that was the scariest experience doing "extreme" things outdoors that I can remember.
  9. Read my post again. I never said pirating is justified by anything, only that I understand why some folks do it, to try-before-they-buy. And my friends who live in countries where they make very low incomes generally have one very old console or computer, paid for by multiple people in their households. The people I know have to consider other expenses first,. and games are a luxury. Being able to try it first, then buy it if they like it and can save up the money to do so, again, often split among several people as far as cost... I get why they do it. I don't do it myself, I can actually afford to lose a few dollars here and there if I buy a game that has been hyped, and then find out I don't like it after I buy it. They can't.
  10. @kristaok - nothing personal. but to you $7.50 USD (the current sale price on Steam) may seem like nothing. But for some people in 2nd or 3rd World countries, where a 12 hour day of physical labor may pay them the equivalent of $5 USD, that $7.50 USD is a TON of money, that they may need to feed a child and family, or pay for medical expenses. Pirating is wrong, but don't judge people based on ONLY your life and you situation. I can afford the game at full price, my friends in the Philippines, Mexico, Poland... may not be able to, because the full price cost is a full week's pay for some of them. They do pirate games as well, simply because they want to try them before they spend a week's pay on it, that they often cannot get a refund of if they do not like the game after buying it blind, due to regional restrictions and laws. So, they do save their pennies, and pirate games to try them, and spend their pennies when they find one they love, with devs they feel good about supporting. That $1 a day you recommend saving may be the only money a teen or younger person may make in a day, if they are lucky. Not everyone comes from the Land Of Free Money And A Chicken In Every Pot.
  11. ... Breathless... the emotions this shot evokes are a bit heavy, yet... peaceful at the same time. Was this the last view someone had, before they went into that Long Dark... Stunning capture. *whoosh* **Breathes again** ...
  12. Oh, my. I have a ton of work to do creating new assets... Raining syrup... we will need umbrellas...
  13. Lol! Okay, you go ahead and call me names, and say I am attacking people, a when "everyone can see what your intent was" in attacking me. You can have your opinions, and believe you know me better than I know myself, even if you are wrong. And I would be most agreeable to you and I having no further interactions. @Raphael van Lierop - make sure you give me tools to make a proper Pancake Everything mod, when you do give us support for modding. There will be a First Nations village somewhere on the island, with a Pancake Emporium in the middle of it. And a plate of Pancakes on every table in the game. And a new throwing "weapon"... Flying Flapjack Frisbees Of Doom. Here wolfie- have a Pancake to the face! (Yes, I am going to do silly things with my mods... you have been forewarned.)
  14. He is stalking me, I swear. Or I am stalking him. Most likely the second one...
  15. I still seem to be having this "thing" with Old Grumpy Bear going on... he and I have got to stop seeing each other like this. Though, I am not too fond of face-to-face meetings with him...
  16. And again, you define them as cheat mods. I never did. For some, they may define those as QoL mods. But none of them were bugfix mods. None of them. Which is why i asked for a list of the bugs that mods fixed. Because, I was actually curious, since Hinterland has fixed most bugs I am aware of on PC and XBone in the last 3 years I have been playing the game on those platforms. And again, don't twist my words or assume my intent. If you read it as me implying something, it is in your mind only. I did not imply anything. i just listed some of the more commonly known and used mods, that we keep seeing in videos, screenshots and forums postings. I was implying nothing, you implied it, and only you chose to label them as "cheat mods". My intent was to show what known mods are NOT bugfix mods, nothing more, nothing less.
  17. Show me where I said "cheat mods" in the post you quoted? And since you can't... please stop twisting my words. And again, please go back and see my post where I tell folks i am ALSO a modder, and 3 members of my family are modders. I know what modding is, I DO it. You seem to have a blindfold on that keeps you from reading what is actually written, and seem to take any question simply asking for information as a direct threat to your... something. I mod, I love creating QoL mods, and cosmetic mods, and even "God mods". But I do so in games that support modding, and give me dev and studio supported modding tools, that work with their games. And when Hinterland gives us tools to create modifications that work with their game and game engine, i will mod the heck out of it, like I also said before. (I guess you missed that too...).
  18. Can someone tell me exactly what actual bugs were fixed by any of these mods? How is flying over the world (and over any and all wolves and bears) fixing a bug? How is giving yourself unlimited inventory space fixing a bug? How is giving yourself any item you want at any particular time, without exploring the world to search for it fixing a bug? How is giving yourself the ability to never get cold, hungry or thirsty fixing a bug? Exactly what bugs did any mod fix? And please, define what you and others think a "bug" is?
  19. "How to own a business and not go under because of entitled people thinking you need to do their work for them on top of doing your own... You however, i would likely fire in an instant.
  20. And if I shipped an update to MY software, it is meant to work with MY software, not any modified version of it. As a dev, I am in no way responsible for an update that works with the product I create breaking a modification that someone else tacked onto it. Period.
  21. And you can get with the times and give them a bag of money to pay for the additional manhours (paychecks) that it will need to create the modding tools and ship them, and give tech support to the modded games. You do get that additional support requests does = additional time and money on their part? It doesn't just magically happen instantly, and for free. They will give us modding support, when the game is done, and they CAN give it full tech support without overworking their employees. And BTW- go find me a list off all games that do have modding support,. and those that don't. I am willing to be I know which list will be longer. Sorry not sorry, but you are looking at this through a blindfold.
  22. You did not buy a copy of the game, you do NOT own the game, You bought a licence that allows you to play the game. Yes, my analogy is valid, yours is not.
  23. Okay. I am a modder (not for this game, but for others, WITH supported modding and modding tools...), so is my husband, so is my daughter. We all enjoy modding to customize games. We are all also artists. And how all 3 of us see this situation like this: Well, Leo... since you didn't finish it, We did. We think it's better. Sorry about the tear at the bottom. You'll fix that for us all, right? When the game is done, and they give us tools that they use, that will not break the game, we will mod the heck out of it. But until then, the modders who have already done so are THE ONLY ones responsible for their mods not working, and THEY need to do the work to fix them, or create new ones. NOT Hinterland. As an artist, if you came into my house, took my art, ripped the canvas out of the frame, crumpled it up, ripped it, and drew a smiley face on it, because you think it looks better that way, then came to me and complained that the painting is now crumpled and won't go back in the frame and hang properly again... get out of my house. As a SW dev, if someone modified any of the programs my business sold, and then distributed the modified software to the public, who then came to my business when the modified program did not function properly because of a conflict created by the modifications... they would be escorted out of my offices, and the modder(s) would be served with legal documents along the lines of Cease And Desist Orders. If we release the SW as freeware or open source, then have fun with it, but we still won't fix it for you if it breaks. That is on you, the person who modified the program. And if we ship and update to our SW, that breaks your modifications to our product... still not going to fix it for you. We did not cause the thing that broke it, we aren't responsible for what happens if you take a program and alter it and have it stop working.
