  1. I trust Hinterland, and their ability to make story mode 'good'. I think the reason most people think that it is so bad, and sorts is because it's unfinished. There are still two more episodes that are going to come out, and I think that these episodes will truly explain, and make reason to how most of the characters are written, and really make sense of everything that people have been wondering about for years. Think again too, Wintermute, and survival mode take place in two different realities, whether we like it or not. Great Bear is an island, in the middle of nowhere, cut off from people for years. Of course people are going to be, weird, and unhinged, unlike Will, and Astrid, who are from the mainland.
  2. I play on an Xbox One, and I have that problem too. I think it's more of a hardware thing since my Xbox, and the Switch are both slightly underpowered for the game.
  3. Maybe after not playing the game for a year, you shouldn't go right into Interloper? I suggest playing on voyager for a while, to get your bearings. Interloper isn't one of the toughest survival games out there for a reason. It's not for everyone, I don't play it because I simply don't find it fun. Maybe you're the same?
  4. For exploration I'd say theHunter Call of The Wild, there isn't really a survival aspect, but it's a really beautiful game with many large maps, (problem is you have to pay for most of them) The other issue is you really have to play a lot to unlock the better weapons, and tools for hunting. Also, if hunting isn't you thing than the game isn't for you. Another exploration game with a set story is Snowrunner, I saw someone recommend Spintires higher up in the thread, but Snowrunner is basically the sequel. Again, this is a game about delivering cargo with trucks, so it also isn't for everyone. You have to make sure you don't damage your truck, along with not flipping it over. And like theHunter, you have to play a lot to unlock the better upgrades for your truck. Kona is also a very story driven game, it takes place in Canada, during the winter. It's a puzzle, survival, and all around fun game. DO be aware, it's a short game so you should not buy the game full price. I'd wait until it's on sale on steam, which happens somewhat often. I'd highly suggest you to take a look at these games, they are all fun games. theHunter, and Snowrunner both have multiplayer if your into that, but you can also play alone. More than likely you've heard about at least one of these games, but for your criteria, I think they fit well. (even though they don't fill everything.)
  5. That's why I still haven't been to that side of the game world in my 80 day run 😂😂 I'm scared of those darn tracks!
  6. Yeah, so I had a whole theory written about this, but clumsy old me refreshed the page. Anyway, basically I think the reason The Riken has that hole is because someone was there before you. Someone found the ship, and he was determined to get into it to find its secrets. Think about it like this, in Interloper there is a very limited amount of resources. Perhaps other survivors before you have taken the majority of the supplies, trying to survive and fend for themselves. I think having the though that something escaped The Riken is a fun idea, but lets be real here, there's more realistic options 😆
  7. I wish I could up-vote this twice, I really like these ideas, and I think Hinterland should really note some of these things, I think the thing that would work the best in the game is the Timberwolf Migration. I could just imagine walking down the railway line in Mystery Lake, and then that dreadful Timberwolf music starts playing. I think the events would be a very good addition too. As for the projects, I think that that would be a region exclusive thing. I feel like the project you gave an example of is more of Wintermute thing, I feel integrating all of the things you talk about would be a little too much for survival mode. But other than that, I like all of these ideas and I hope AT LEAST one of them will come to the game on day.
  8. I play TLD on console, and it's rough to say the least. One improvement I'd really like to see is the ability to set your deadzones on your sticks. If you don't know what a deadzone is, it's basically the amount of space there is when you push down the sticks on your controller where there is no movements in game, (hence deadzone). In most games you can set your deadzone, but in TLD you cant. I've noticed that there is a pretty high deadzone, you really have to push your sticks down. This sometimes makes it hard to makes it hard to pick items up, or make precise movements.
  9. I think they will never add a true multiplayer to the game, maybe a co-op mode that has to due with Wintermute, but the game mechanics really do not work with a multiplayer experience. While I feel the pain of buying a game that looks really cool, but it ends up not being a multiplayer, there's nothing that can really be done.
  10. I like that idea, would it take up the accessory slot? Or would they add a new slot?
  11. That's interesting, I don't remember that being in the note. Guess I have bad memory 😅
  12. Yeah, unfortunately I couldn't find my way up to Miners Foley, so I ended up taking those two ropes to the exit of the mine. I'm gonna come back there next week to try to find my way to Miners Foley.
  13. Yeah it's tucked away in there pretty good. Be careful, there is a chance a moose spawns near it.
  14. If you can find a third one, I'd like to know where it is. I'm in PV right now, and I think I'm going to go hunt, and then go back. I felt unsatisfied with my time in Ash Canyon. I need to do MORE.
  15. Oh my friend, that is not the mine. You have to trek far past there. Once you get up there, and climb another rope you have to go past many rope bridges to get to the mine. There's also another way to the mine, but it's hard to find. Good luck getting to the mine, it's worth it!
  16. The High Meadow, is that where the cabin near that broken fishing hut is? There's a cabin on a small plateau there's a rope climb to get to there. There's also a rope climb up to where I believe the first rope bridge starts. There wasn't a rope to the plateau. Do you have to go through the deer clearing transition to get there?
  17. *Spoilers* Ash Canyon has brought me back to this game for the first time in 5 months. I was surprised how I was having fun walking around for hours, almost dying. But i'm not going to get ahead of myself here. I want to know things that surprised you, or you liked, or you didn't like about Ash Canyon. I think the region holds a lot of secrets, and visually its a spectacle, and that music by Sascha that seems to play every 5 minutes is chilling. There's an area high up in the region wheres there's a wooden bridge, cant remember the name, but from the bridge you can see all the rope bridges. It's super cool, upset I didn't get a screenshot. I'm quite the sucker for lore, I love reading 'The Sitting Dead' by piddy3825, if you have never read about the sitting dead, it's basically just them documenting the corpses on great bear, and speculate on how these people met their demise. During the trailer for this update, Raphael says that the crampons, along with the tactical pack were left behind by an 'unfortunate survivor', I expected a corpse in the mine, but I got more. Once you get to the mine, and make it to the survivors little camp you come across a note which was written by the survivor talked about in the trailer. It informs you that this survivor was exploring, and trying to find the mine. He rekindles about how his clothes are in good condition, and that he was going to set off for home in the morning. He never made it out though. to the right of his little bed is his body, laid out, and frozen. There's no blood, no sign to how he could of died. It's a grim scene. I believe he either died from something like a heart attack, or some form of choking, perhaps. On the way out of the mine you find another corpse, sitting and enjoying the view. I don't think he has any relation to the survivor in the mine though. Please, be welcomed to share your thoughts on Ash Canyon, and any theories you have about the region.
  18. The mine was difficult to find for me, I circled around the map 3, maybe 4 times trying to find it. A rope didn't spawn for me where I believe you accessed the first rope bridge, I can't remember the name, it's near that broken fishing shack. But anyway, yeah there are two ways to get to the mine. Of course, the most obvious way is the rope bridges, but there's one less obvious one. It's pretty hard to find, so I'm not going to spoil anything for you.
  19. For me I had some render issues, I play on a first gen Xbox One, so it's not what you'd call 'powerful' in any way. Walking around Ash Canyon I saw parts of the bridges floating, and then they would gradually render in the closer I got. This was most noticeable with the highest rope bridge on the way to the mine. It didn't even load in for me until I got right under it. I'm pretty sure this is more of a software limitation than a bug, but just though someone needed to hear it.
  20. I spent a couple irl hours here just trying to find the mine. I have probably played less than 4 hours of this game in the last 4-5 months, so I did a few very stupid things, like: Drink 0.1L of unpotable water, and guess what? I got dycentary. I also climbed up a rope, to realize the rope lead to literally nothing, so I had to climb back down and use up the rest of my wood to sleep. I'm gonna take another crack at it today though. I believe i'm at the complete wrong side of the region to where to coal mine is though. Oh well, more exploring for me!
  21. I think they are going to keep the game going for many years to come. I think the games story will expand past the 5 episodes of Wintermute. But where you think there is going to be a sequel, I think the story will wrap up, and come to a very satisfying end. I believe that Wintermute is a story bigger than we think. I think that episode 4, and even more episode 5 will see many flashbacks, and fill us in with a ton of information about the pair of Mackenzie and Astrid, and a ton of information about Great Bear and the collapse. But where you say a sequel to The Long Dark, I don't think that's going to happen for a very long time. I do think it would be interesting seeing Great Bear in the fall, and or summer though.
  22. Great Bear is a secluded island in Canada, and it seems as if there are no one owns a snowmobile! While I am not saying Hinterland should add snowmobiles as a vehicle, I think maybe leave some around the game world, add a battery to take, and maybe a little compartment to search. Further more, a region, or transition area that is a forest, with old snowmobile trail markers. (And then maybe there's a forge, or some kind of reason to go there) I think the people of great bear did more than just sit in their houses all day during the winter, right?
