  1. I think that the game you are suggesting is the most likely outcome of the first game. It’s a good discussion that is different from the zombies and cannibals. That said, it’s not a game I would be interested in playing because the survival genre is already full of games that are post apocalyptic, dog eat dog scenarios. Seeing a larger urban world effected by the aurora would be interesting but wouldn’t be different enough for me to care long term. I’m not trying to take anything away from the idea or attack it even, if you take my meaning. Those type of games have large followings as well. Just for me personally, I wouldn’t opt into it.
  2. Salt is no necessary for jerky but yeah whether salted, smoked, or dried, meat preservation is an important part of survival. Even if it’s been said before, no reason not to say it again.
  3. I personally think that all items decaying is overkill. It creates the problem in the first place. Obviously, food, clothing, and wear items have to. But matches...I still have a box of matches that are a couple of years old. I think the solution is to take condition away from some items and have less spawn in game. I can see the point that everything will break down eventually but if that process is over a great amount of time then it serves no real purpose and creates a problem.
  4. @Cranky When you say Zippo are you wanting that because you want to be able to refuel it? I carry a Bic in my survival kit because Zippo fuel evaporated over time. Of course I can’t easily refuel a Bic but it doesn’t evaporate like a Zippo either. What do you think?
  5. It’s an interesting idea and a means to an end for me. I don’t give a crap about art but I’m glad you do. More flora in game would be something I’d like to see so I’m for this suggestion. I would also like to see how you make a picture by dropping items. I would have never thought of that.
  6. Would it be easier for gut to be a weighted inventory item? Then we could have a ratio of guts to animal weight. Cured guts could produce lengths of line. Different lengths of line could achieve different depths when ice fishing, there by getting larger fish for example. Bones could be harvested in two categories, large mammals and small mammals. Bone tools and bone hooks could be added based on weight requirements of bone. We might need two categories because all bones on a rabbit are small. A bone club from rabbit femur would be stupid. Funny...but stupid. Maybe meat could be processed to separate fat and protein. Then the fat used to make pemmican (somebody else had that idea that I read today. Brilliant!), candles, and I’m sure a bunch of things that are escaping me right now. I’ve said it before but if hides were done by area you would know two bits of info for hide crafting. So if a rabbit hide is 8 inches by 12 inches (as always, change the numbers as you like) it will be worth 96 square inches of clothing and require 40 inches of line to sew it to something else. I know it adds complexity to what we have now but sometimes when a solution is over simplified it comes with a compromise. Then the solution becomes the issue for other areas. I’d hate to not get something because of underlying issues.
  7. When you say slingshot, if you are referring to the type used with some elastic material and can be used for a time until it’s condition is gone, okay. If we are talking about crafting that same thing with catgut, not so much. It’s not elastic. If we are talking about crafting an old world “shepherd” sling (David and Goliath style), okay. I make them with my kids out of 550 cord. They are a lot of fun and more then capable of killing rabbit. They were carried by shepherds to ward off predators so it’s not crazy to think it could be done in game. A compass would be nice but like was already said there is a reason they don’t work in game. However a realistic model of the sun, moon, and stars could cover much of this. I know that we have sun, moon, and stars movement now but it doesn’t observe reality.
  8. Love the idea. Candles in shelters could be a used to warm those up. IRL this should always be done as an indicator of ventilation. If the candle dies down or goes out for no good reason, you should get out of the shelter; to little oxygen. The size of a structure could be an issue. Grey Mother’s suddenly isn’t so great a location because of the space that would have to be heated to get a desired effect. There would have to be two things really. Proximity heating (radiation) for the character and also the global temperature of the structure. Each building “type” would need predetermined volume so the rate of heating would be consistent. It could be done without but the next thing that will be said is ,”why do small buildings and large buildings heat at the same rate?” This would be really great if structure building were ever added. Then you can live in a log cabin mansion if you want but you’re going to have a hard time keeping it warm. On the other hand if it’s too easy to heat there is no room to spread out hides. The mechanic would self balances it that way.
  9. LOL. Make suggestions at will. There is usually something new in a suggestion even if it’s just one thing. I had not considered leaving the sled. If it contained food I think the wildlife should destroy it (either because you watch them do it or because you walk away and the condition drops over time to account for scavengers). Anyway, my two cents. See it cost us nothing.
  10. I agree that dehydration should be modeled as accurately as possible. Along with your suggestion I also think that the character should get colder faster and have a greater risk of frostbite (despite wearing clothing). This is a more drastic change but as dehydration progresses cold weather injuries are a greater risk as the blood thickens and becomes less effective at keeping the body functioning. There by causing heat generation to decline.

@odizzido Get out of my head. I only have so much room up there to spare.

No issues with consoles. It might not be the same but strafing can certainly be done.
  13. Mountaineering is a little general. Sorry if I take this in a direction you had not intended. So, you would want to introduce ice axes and with crampons be about to ice climb? I was a mountaineering instructor earlier in life so sorry if I get technical. Actual lead climbing is difficult with this game because you are alone; no one to belay. Rappelling could be better since the Dulfersitz technique would be better then just down climbing. Snow Bollard anchors could be used as well (watch Frozen). If a Swiss seat harness could be made from rope you could tie a couple of prusiks to the main line and directly to the harness. No carabiners needed. Climbing (up or down) any rope would have no risk of falling. There would even be time to rest. If carabiners were added as well you could Munter hitch your way down a rope easily. Ice climbing is more dangerous then rock climbing because if you’re not careful the ice will break away with you on it. Rocks obviously can do the same but the risk is far greater on ice. Glacier travel is something the game could have where there could be a crevasse danger. I knew a guy that wanted to do that so bad he went alone and carried a ladder around his waist to catch him in case he fell in. He’s still alive as far as I know. Anyway, there is a lot here. How far did you want to take Mountaineering when you made the suggestion?
