  1. Honestly... threads like this make me wish I could put more than just one like per-post.
  2. @bysinda Very impressive. Both that the game is that versatile, and that you knew how to leverage that to perfect effect.
  3. @bysinda Anytime one tries to take inspiration from place and put it into another... there are always liberties that will likely need to be taken. When I wanted to build a Forestry Lookout Tower in Minecraft, it wasn't a perfect likeness to the one's on Great Bear Island... turned out to be much more akin to Firewatch Towers in Colorado/Wyoming... but the spirit was there. For you, the amount of detail you were able to put in your build is impressive. I imagine you were able to import textures from in-game screen shots, or did you "custom paint" those yourself (specifically, for the bullet holes and things)? In either case (as I mentioned before)... supremely well done.
  4. I've not had much opportunity to try out the new items... but from what I've gathered about it, I really don't think I like that these new food items come with buffs and debuffs.
  5. Not much has changed for me: Since I don't feel the need to have a forge nearby... I don't mind being without one. When I do have need, I also enjoy making the trek to (and staying in) Desolation Point. So for me, the Mountaineer's Hut one of my favorite places to live. However, since I tend towards a more nomadic playstyle... I do tend to have primary encampments in each region (as well as secondary encampments for stopovers while out on a trek, or if weather takes a sudden turn and I need a convenient spot to take cover).
  6. It seems there might have been something you may not have taken into account... or as another suggested perhaps you're getting hit by a glitch. I've been playing for about 9 years, and I've never had anything like what you describe happen to me. Any time I've died in my sleep (admittedly it's been a long while I have) it was due to me either not accounting for temperature drops... or forgetting to dress a wound... or forgetting to take antibiotics after getting food poisoning. Point is, all those deaths were absolutely deserved. So, unless you're getting hit by a bug... there's likely something going on that wasn't accounted for.
  7. [Accompaniment] Friendships - Pascal Letoublon It was indeed nearly noon before I managed to get up out of my bedroll. I was going to make it to the Mysterious Signal Fire today... no excuses and I'm not stopping till I get there. That is to say, if a blizzard pops up today... I'm going to tank it and continue on. I lost have the day... have to make it up somehow. A beautiful sunny day... if it weren't for all the claws and teeth skulking around out there, I'd say it was perfectly bucolic. 🤭 Ice Cave entrance... as mentioned before; I'll save that for later. 😏 I think I'll head for the high ground first, then I'll worry about slipping past this wolf to get to the source of that smoke column we've tracked here. Nothing at all here this time... I mean, sure there are rosehips and maple saplings, but those don't mean anything to me (at least not on this trek). Always important to check the nooks and crannies... Hmm, I remember being able to wiggle my way through there in the past... not any more apparently. 🤔 Slipped by the wolf... the Mysterious Signal Fire should be just further along this trail. I could easily enough goat around the scrub brush here... but then I would need to clear it to get back out (assuming I don't find a rope back there). Figured I may as well just clear a corner of it now. I enjoy watching the ptarmigans, it occurs to me I've never caught one yet. Hmm, for now I'm still not hunting unless there's dire need... they (and the rabbits) are all still safe; for now. This will be my haven for the night. A surprisingly rich spot... ptarmigans and rabbits. (noted, for later) I gathered up what I found useful. A moose hide satchel, a couple of stims, revolver cartridges, another hatchet (in very decent condition as well), and a note. The cooked moose steak was already spoiled... but honestly, that's to be expected. Maybe it was a relatively short day... but it was a really good day. 😏 Tomorrow, I think I'm going to explore the rest of this "shelf." There was a long stretch still out past the Ice Cave entrance.
  8. With half the day already gone, I wouldn't be able to cover as much ground... I think I will head up to the Mysterious Signal Fire, rather than work on the more expansive area around this level of the region.
  9. Still happens from time to time on PC (via Steam) also...
  10. @Stranzua I'm all for player choice. There are some meta-game strategies that folks certainly can use to (for lack of a better term) "cheese" the hunting of bear and moose for the sake of maximizing safety... and there's nothing wrong with that, to each their own. I mean let's be honest, in reality most "hunters" (if not the vast majority) tend to target animals from positions of absolute safety (for the obvious reason that they want to kill an animal, but not risk getting hurt themselves)... so as I said, nothing wrong with cheesing a hunt, it's the player's choice. However, I find that they are a fairly well-balanced challenge/threat when the player chooses to hunt a bit more out in the open (a little more "toe-to-toe" so to speak). So, no... I don't think they need to be "harder" to kill. We can really drastically change our survival experience simply by choosing to change the way we play.
  11. While making a long trek on a sunny day on Great Bear Island (part 2)
  12. @Leeanda Scarlet was a real trooper. The bear encounter had to have been stressful, so tomorrow Scarlet's staying home. Save and Warm... with a full belly.
  13. @FaT McMarlin I just mean that I hadn't had any close encounters with bears unless I was out to hunt one... and in my case, I don't ever use fire tactics (because years ago, those were a good way to just get yourself killed) so I haven't bothered experimenting with them in a long while. This is all I was getting at. Not here to judge other tactics or hunting strats; when it comes to that... to each their own. As for that bear's behavior. It feels to me that bears may be a bit glitchy these days... I'd probably submit a ticket. Later on sometime, I may start a "side run" just for science again.
  14. @niche2k The first time we visit the cannery and start making our way to the workshop... there are scripted incursions that are triggered as you reach certain points. That's no bug, these are intended encounters. However, after this happens the first time "parkouring" your way to the workshop... they shouldn't happen again after that.
  15. @FaT McMarlin At least from my experience, historically bears did not care about handheld flares, torches, or campfires. In fact, they used to just bulldoze right through campfires like they weren't even there... it was terrifying. The only thing of this kind that would ward them off was the flare gun (but that's sort of what it was introduced into the game to do). I didn't know if that's changed over the years... or if bears are just kind of buggy these days. I've not been in very many situations with bears that weren't on my terms, so I haven't done a lot of science about how they behave stalking or charging these days. It looked like (from the video you posted) that the bear was likely glitched out and not sure what (if anything) to do... or what state to be in. If it was the flare on the ground... that behavior seems inconsistent with what I've experienced in the past. Perhaps more science is in order... I'd also consider opening a ticket with Hinterland Support. Perhaps we need the team to look at this and determine if this is really intended behavior.
