So far, I've been able to cook with 0% ingredients. You cannot use 0% bait for fishing though, so only prepare what you need. Learned this the hard way after harvesting 50 bait.
Not a bad haul. I've also noticed it is limited to "kitchen spaces", with one exception I've seen so far, ML Camp Office. Still, once the ingredients are gone, no more frontier cooking.
There have been other posts on this topic, but I'm not going hunting for them. My thoughts? It will have to be some sort of "live" transaction, so perhaps a locked hut where you interact with the trader through a "trading tray/slot" (kind of like bank tellers used to use)
Like you said, if you use stones, you only get one out of the flock. I was hoping they would fly a short distance and then land, but they fly away and despawn. I'm wondering if a stealth, fire-hardened arrow approach would let you get more than one (like we can do with deer).
I've been playing 2 previous saves. I am finding Burdock (in fact I made a separate post where I found 5 in a cluster). I have NOT found any ptarmigans yet. I've even been checking other locations where others have found them, but to no avail.
I just fell victim to this after playing for several hours. It happens when trying to leave a lakeside cottage in ML.
Not sure if it's coincidence or not, but I had just placed several Tip-ups in fishing huts before entering the cottage to sleep...
I just tried fishing for the first time with a lure (no bait). I fished in 1 hour increments for a total of 6 hours at lvl 5 fishing and didn't catch a single fish! Looks like my lure is scaring the fish away instead of attracting them!
Same test with no lure and still no fish.
On my 2 existing saves, I have found zero ptarmigans so far and have looked through 4 regions.
Also, I just noticed that animals (deer, bear) are not leaving prints in the snow. A fresh save does show them as well as ptarmigans.
I was thinking I would validate Steam files but it's working on fresh saves....was going to do the same thing for mods...may still.
Guess we'll have to start compiling a list of locations, just as was done with with variants.
I'm going to be using my 50 day "newer" run, since I have to visit all locations anyways.
If RNG is this diverse, I could see us running out of the new foods VERY quickly, especially when some recipes use 3 carrots for example. Currently, these are not renewable resources, which almost makes the new recipes obsolete after a relatively short amount of time.
