Oh my. I cannot imagine to play TLD without hearing. I can play it without my glasses. But not without good headphones. The ominous shhhshhh is more dangerous than bark. But it seems like you can thrive even as deaf in the wilderness.

@acada

Thank you, it has been a really interesting challenge so far.
At this point in the run, I'd certainly say that as long as a survivor maintains good situational awareness, it's more than achievable to survive and thrive on Great Bear Island without sound or subtitles of any kind.

However, I really miss the wonderful sound design a lot.  I even miss hearing Will/Astrid complain. :D
This run makes me appreciate the ambiance as well as all the audio cues they thought to craft for us even more (and I'd already loved them before 🤭).

I think that if I survive Bleak Inlet... then I'll setout to map and fully explore Keeper's Pass and Blackrock; after that I think I'd call it a successful run.  I suppose I could also go for some lengthy dwell time at places like Ash Canyon and Hushed River Valley... but at this point I think I can say that I've pretty well proven the point (at lest to myself).

I just wondered if it is like your character had two frostbites on head. But from what I learned removed auriculas would diminish hearing, not remove it.

Please be careful. You will not hear the wolf which kill you.

I'm not entirely sure I know what you are referring to...  but no, not like frost bite on the head.
It's really just like if the survivor simply can't hear, which was the point.

Having to rely solely on visual input.
I quickly learned to constantly be visually scanning my surroundings, looking for tracks, and always always take an additional look around before committing to an action (like searching a container 🤭).

I just wanted to see if it was reasonable to be able to survive and thrive on Great Bear Island without the ability to hear the surroundings... or anything at all.

So far, I'd say that's it's very reasonable.  The player just really needs to be paying close attention...

@ManicManiac

Sorry. I am reffering to non existing mechanics in the game. It was just my wish that frostbites would affect character more than loosing condition permanently. But enough of that. We all want to hear next experience of your deaf Astrid. 😀

I misunderstood what you wrote then, 🤭 fair enough.

Real-life stuff has been drastically limiting my free-time, but I'm looking to be getting a session in relatively soon... but not to worry, this run's not done until I get Blackrock/Keeper's Pass fully mapped... (or die trying 🤭)

I waited there in the second cannery building, hoping for the fog to lift.
20220724133640_1.thumb.jpg.d4a9596936ec9802e9797c6d4469a392.jpg

As I waited, I had a long while to reflect on these two unfortunate souls... whatever their story was; it's clear how it ended.  Heartbreaking.
20220724134353_1.thumb.jpg.654cafb629d517d8797f870abe190cdf.jpg

After a couple of hours, the fog started to clear.  I made my way back upstairs to get ready for the next attack.  I spotted my lone survivor... so I stood up to frighten it off (last think I needed was it joining up with next pack).
20220728193340_1.thumb.jpg.be1245dac9bf35026e769b8ce2a584bb.jpg

I had to be careful.  The yard is a little too close quarters to pick off the pack without getting spotted (yes, it's possible, but it's tricky... and takes more patience that I was willing to invest today).  If I was going to be spotted, I at least wanted it to happen on my terms.  I perched, just for a moment to see if I could get eyes on... nearly got spotted right of the bat.  However, I managed to get back to ground level so I could stalk them a little before the chaos started.
20220724141344_1.thumb.jpg.681288132fd83ea4c9ac682c44973770.jpg20220728211621_1.thumb.jpg.cd78e50b61d1f936de0468cd2a4b2256.jpg
I counted four of them.
I'd managed to quickly drop two.  The other two I hit, but apparently not critically.  I was determined to not waste shots... so as much as it pained me, I had to let the other two get away wounded.  I will try to find where they dropped (likely tomorrow).  If they don't end up dropping in a place I might be able to safely harvest them... I guess I'll have to let them go to waste.  Here's hoping I don't have to do that.
20220728211645_1.thumb.jpg.d51eb3c768bff27f89b08e4ea880f549.jpg
I found some tracks... so at least I have a rough idea of where to start looking.

20220728212832_1.thumb.jpg.12a5705c4f2c143180272d67937785fa.jpg
Ha... rabbits.  I think these are the first rabbit's I've spotted in Bleak Inlet this time around.  Worth noting, I think.

20220728212848_1.thumb.jpg.ddb8f5e161a9dd2cf846c4ac6d9c3b32.jpg
And there's my lone survivor... no sign of the wounded packmates though.

For the rest of the afternoon/evening, I took the time to harvest the two timber wolves laying in the yard.  After getting the meat, raw gut, and hide taken care of; I decided to sit on the end of the doc and wait until nightfall.

:coffee::fire::coffee:
The peaceful hours spent on the dock put the day's ferocious struggle into sharp relief.  It reminds me that sometimes it's more about waiting... for just the right shot (so-to-speak).

Not taking hides ? 😲    Although there are 5 (i believe) spawn points for rabbits in BI i would defo take them for fixing gloves and hat - their condition goes down so fast but understand you dont need them on Stalker anyway :)

Good to hear You are doing well in BI but to be honest i was hoping for some wolf struggle action  😜

Take care survivor !

Yes, there are several places rabbits could be... but so far this is the first sighting of rabbits in this region for me (for this run).  I suspect I just got struck by a bad RNG roll when it came to wildlife spawns this time around. 🤭

I took the timber wolf hides... as for the rabbits, they get a pass for now.  I don't really need the rabbit mitts... the leather gauntlets work well enough for the time being.  I have more wolf meat than I know what to do with... so I don't need the rabbit meat either.

At my other encampments I have most of what I need now for very nearly a complete set of crafted clothing (minus of course moose and bear skin items - haven't needed to hunt those yet).

All in all... I didn't have a need to hunt the rabbits, so they got to continue enjoying their day.
Besides, I have at least two more timber wolf packs to deal with before I get to the workshop.

It was just my luck that an aurora would flare up before I was ready to camp out by the door to the workshop. 🤭
Oh well, it made for another beautiful night.

I think I will invest at least one day to look for where the other two timber wolves eventually fell.  I have a feeling at least one is likely up on top of the "cannery overlook."  The other... there's a good chance it's either out on the ice, or even ran off to the far end of the Frozen Delta (at least judging from the last time I'd managed to find runners like those).

I have a pretty large supply of wolf meat, which could easily last me a month if I ration carefully.
I have plenty of antibiotics now too... but you know why.
The only things I'm a bit short on is water and sticks.
I suppose when I take that day of searching for my wayward timber wolves, I can be picking up sticks as well.

🤔

I'm glad you're still in one piece.   🙂.  And good to see you managed to get the hides too. I know it bothered you last time.

I'm not sure it's just bad luck with the rabbits though,I've hardly seen any in bleak for quite a while.

I usually fare pretty well eating just one wolf steak a day.  Keeps the risk low enough that I'd just have to get pretty unlucky to contract them.

I suppose the upside is that if I did contract them, and all while I'm treating the affliction... I'd be able to eat predator meat with impunity. :D

Feels like an oversight... but I'll take it.

I decided to sleep in a little (make sure I was fully rested), and carefully set out to scout for my two wayward timber wolves.  Knowing they could make it a good distance before bleeding out... I decided to risk taking the path to the "Cannery Overlook"... From there, I spotted a small dark speck off in the distance that seemed out of place over by the Washed-Out Trailers.

As I made my way towards the Washed-Out Trailers, I spotted the crows...

I quickly harvested and made haste back across the edge of the Frozen Delta... If there were any other packs around, they were very likely already hunting for me (very thoroughly smelling of timber wolf meat and raw wolf-gut).
20220729212201_1.thumb.jpg.d5dc211b336a89fcd17076d8e2515694.jpg
I made it back safely... in spite of a fog that had been slowly rolling in.

I decided to continue my search even farther down the road.  I thought I would check the ice and over near the broken bridge.  However, there was no sign of the last downed timber wolf.
20220729213812_1.thumb.jpg.374e397890e171a9aa457bbcca8165e5.jpg

I decided to head back up the large hill across the road... from there I would be able to get a good vantage of nearly half the region. 🤭
20220729214111_1.thumb.jpg.6cf5d080f1afd76f26115f0fdf41f87d.jpg
Turned out my instincts were correct... that hill was a good place to look.
20220729214344_1.thumb.jpg.c3480f271868420945258f1dec3864dd.jpg
There was the unfortunate soul... but the I notice a second little flock of crows.

Found the last missing timber wolf.  I quickly got to work harvesting... but by the time I was finished...
20220729214428_1.thumb.jpg.21c645141d64401a313ecf382f841eb0.jpg
Night was closing in fast.  This was not ideal... but I quickly made my way down the slope.
20220729214452_1.thumb.jpg.2c58318b218ed0b0e703d094ba1299dc.jpg

As I got to the road, I looked back and saw a couple of silver haired stalkers following my scent.  I was already exhausted... so I had to hope that I took a winding enough path to keep them off my heals until I got back inside.

I managed to get back to the cannery breakroom and without more sightings of the timber wolves that were tracking me.  Even so, I didn't mess around.  I stowed the meat, raw gut, and hide... ate... went straight to bed. 🤭

After having tracked down and recovered my two wayward wolves... Hopefully today I'll get one step closer to the workshop door.

At this point I've looked over pretty much every location... except the Secret Mountain Pass; I want to remember to visit before I'm done with Beak Inlet.

I'm not sure if I should try to take on the next pack from the safety of an elevated position... or take them on eye to eye at ground level.

🤭  I don't even know why I was asking myself this question; I'll be taking them on down on the ground.

The good thing about the cannery is that there are high and low vantage points.  I used to get in the cars but now I get in the huge pipes (or whatever they are🙂) . Seems safe and you can shot from inside them.. pity we can't open car windows though but that'd be too easy.

I got up sometime around midmorning and started seeing how close I could get to the workshop before having to face another timber wolf incursion.

I took a good long look around once I got up to the second floor and started to make my way across the top of the gate.

Hmm... I'd have expected there to be at least two more packs ready to attack before I'd gotten to the Cannery Peir.
I could swear there were at least five/six packs I had to deal with the last time I was here.  Has the number of encounters diminished that much since last year?

Well... I won't question providence. :D

:coffee::fire::coffee:
I have to wait out this fog anyway... so I suppose I'll spend the night right here and see what happens.

After only a few hours of waiting the fog started to lift.  After making a few laps up and down the pier, it looked like an early evening aurora was about to start.
