What I would like to see in TLD

Hej hej!

First of all, I really enjoy the game and especially the recent updates with episode 3 and now the Errant Pilgrim - Hinterland did a great job as always and this is the best game I ever played so far.

When I think about my playing experience, some things still can be improved or could be even smoother and so I wanna share my thoughts.

general:

1.) I would like to access the radial menu, while walking, currently it stops the walking process and I dont see a viable reason why it should be like this.

2.) I would like to be able to sprint, while pressing two walking keys at the same time ("W" + "A" or "W" + "D") - in other games, I use this for getting a wider view while moving and I think it does not mess up the not-sprinting-backwards-thought at all, its more like a head turning while running.

3.) It would be cool, if i could drag firewood and other fuels into an existing fire, just as I can put a tin or a drink on top of it - I often drop a lot of firewood next to a place where I will start a long fire in the future (hoarder stile) and its a bit cumbersome to grab it and then access the menu and then put it on the fire - changing this would improve the feeling of really beeing in this world.

4.) I think it would be cool, when mapping from a oversight point would increase the range of map drawing - this would make accessing those awesome points make even more useful. to balance this, more charcoal could be used.

5.) Shell casings should be dropped immediately when shooting. Currently you need to walk a few meters, then they spawn and then you need to move back to grab them. I found that a bit confusing. And it costs time, that you dont have, when hunting down prey.

6.) When interrupting a crafting or a reading process - it would be cool to not loose the Progress that you already made. It always bothers me a bit, when I set time to e.g. 2h to read a book, then its getting too dark to read and my character forgets everything, that he or she read up to this point. Same for crafting. - For selfmade clothes its already there, but now for the starting clothes - then you just lose material and progress at all.

7.) It would be cool to cancel harvesting actions when circumstances change - if I wanna completly harvest a deer and this takes - lets say 3h, then I would like to start and press "Escape" if the weather turns bad or a predator comes in, or I remember, that I would like to to something else. To prevent this, currently I need to split all the Action to be able to make this decision in time and this often turns into a clickheavy playstyle, that partly reduces the fun of the gameplay.

8.) Implement a "Harvest everything" button for carcasses - as this is the option that I mostly choose. Currently I need to click a couple of times to get to this point.

9.) A Slider for amount choosing when transfering bigger amounts of goods would be awesome. Or for selecting how long to sleep and stuff like that. Belongs to the click heavy parts in TLD currently. Additionally it would be cool to use the arrow-keys for changing the amount.

10.) Keys to press for passing time - as long as you hold them, this long it passes time.

11.) automatic preselection for the food and drinks in the radial menu - one of every kind should be displayed. As it currently is, I often times go for the radial menu because its quick, then what I am looking for is not there and then I search it in the bigger menu - which takes overall a longer time instead of reducing the time needed. This would be also important for selecting uncooked food from the radial menu to place it on the fire - currently I often times need to drop it, and then place it. Or I cant find my cooked food item, because my radial menu is full with ucooked items, that I surely will not eat. I think when putting some good work into this, people would like the radial menu more overall.

12.) Be able to turn your head backwards when sitting in a car ("Always check the back seats"), maybe even crawling from the back to the front and the other way round inside a car. This is useful when there is a predator outside and you want to sprint less to the next safe place, e.g. at the Garage in Coastal Highway.

13.) SPOILER in this Suggestion! (Errant pilgrim and Story mode)

Door lock in the cannery - there is no "0" to press, but I got the code "1540". I know I dont need to type it, but still it bothers me a bit. I dont remember if it is the same in the story mode for Carter Hydro Dam. And the door lock makes electric sounds if you press it even without aurora. Sometimes it confuses me, what electricity is now working without aurora and which one not (telephones in episode 3 and stuff)

There will be more things in my mind, but for now I ll leave it here. Would be nice to hear some thoughts of you guys! If something is unclear or can be misunderstood because of my bad english, then please ask :)

Similar to #1: During the animation for reloading you can keep moving and looking around. However for some reason this is not true of drinking or eating. I would prefer not to be frozen when eating and drinking.

I disagree a bit. The circle bar is there to note time passing. It doesn't take a second or two to pull something out of your pack, potentially open it up, and eat it. That's a process that takes minutes to accomplish. When you're reloading it's happening in real time, so you continue to have control of the cursor. When you're eating, time is accelerated, and you get no control of the cursor.

As tradeoffs go, it's a reasonable one... besides, animating the process takes resources almost certainly better spent elsewhere and it would quickly become annoying as you waited for it to complete.

It is not realistic at all that you can carry cooked meat or litres of boiled water in a pack at –27°C and drink or eat any of it. That stuff is long frozen solid. I am just referring to the game mechanic, which effectively stops the game when you are drinking or eating. It is intrusive.

and what you are saying is that during this involved process that takes minutes, I can never look around and be aware of my surroundings, which is odd.

It's how time acceleration works for all things, not just eating. Main point I was making was that reloading the rifle is a real-time activity, while eating is time accelerated.

Agree, perhaps we didn't pass the test of Gideon's army of 300, Judges 7:5-7, and simply aren't good enough for God.

I don't mind the way it is now, but I also wouldn't be opposed to this. So I am fine with either way on this.

Same as my answer to number 1.

I can see your point, but again I would have to give the same answer as number 1 and 2 even though it would be a neat feature to add.

This is something I could agree with as it would only make sense, a greater view from a mountain top should give us more of a map range while mapping.

I agree.

I also think this would be a good idea, it would only make sense.

I'm cool with this.

'Maybe, it just depends...

I don't know about this one... I don't think this one interests me...

I think this is a no from me... sorry...

This is a yes from me! In real life we can do this, so I would love to be able to do such in the game!

While that's fine and dandy on PC versions, on console the same analogue stick that you use to walk is also the one that selects different items in the menu. Other than that, I agree with all of your suggestions, especially 3 and 4.
