  1. Thanks for the great suggestions!! Got that achievement pretty early, with Gusmithing being the last (of course). Worked hard on that one since it affects the rest of the gameplay. #whatruinedfood? I really dislike the cairns in-game, mainly because I *REALLY* dislike them in real life. https://www.adventureresponsibly.co/blogs/the-trail-ahead/dont-be-a-cairn https://friendsofthesmokies.org/blog/dont-move-rocks/ http://www.takepart.com/article/2016/08/25/new-graffiti-national-parks-fight-stone-stackers/ Many of them are *really* obscurely placed, as well, so, unless there's a map of them all, I'm unlikely to go back through everywhere *that* thoroughly. 🙂 Ask my double Expedition Parkas, my double Combat Pants, and my Mukluks if I've found the Prepper's Cache in Mystery Lake (a clothing cache, in this case, near the Carter Dam). 😄 I actually started out near Desolation Point and forged a ridiculous number of arrowheads before I left. Didn't use any of them until I got the Pacifist achievement, but have been pretty well off, ballisticly, since then. 🙂 I *am* also sitting on a ridiculous number of pelts and hides, but when you're decked out in Expedition Parkas, Combat Pants, and Mukluks, it's hard to want to go full-fur. After 500, tho, I was considering ditching man-made materials completely and see what that's like. Maybe I'll do that sooner...
  2. Sigh... I'm out of things to do. I just crossed day 400 on my Stalker run. I have just the one last "500 day" achievement to go. Got all the badges, all the cartographer points, etc. Now, I'm finding myself carting entire bear-loads of meat to the cave above the Camp Office in ML, cooking water in cooking pots all day for a day, cooking bear all day for another day, then: Wake, eat, drink, play cards for 8 hours, drink, play cards for another 7 hours, eat, drink, sleep for 9 hours. Wake, do it all over again. What the heck am I gonna do with myself for the next 100 days that won't risk the run? (I actually have two more Polaroids to find, and I'm gonna go after the one in Coastal Highway, but I'm too "scared" to try for the one in Ash Canyon that I'll have to glitch to because I'm worried the glitching might wreck the run somehow.) Whee. 😕
  3. I still don't understand why you would even bother. The "maze" isn't that difficult (or long) and the weight of the stones you'd need more than offsets anything you'd have to drop to get up the rope at the start. Interesting experiment, but nothing to try to replicate for anything more that curiosity, IMHO
  4. I was just there, didn't do that for me. Running any mods?
  5. So, did your guy MacKenzie not actually read any books yet at all? How are his skill levels? 😮
  6. I'm on Stalker, so certainly not easy-peasy. Not sure what happened. Got to 212/212 afterwards, tho, so either way, I got it. 🙂
  7. Perhaps everyone *here*. 🙂 All of my searching that ended up at Steam or reddit found plenty of vitriol. My searches never ended up here, so missed any Hushed love letters you may have posted. 😄
  8. I gotta say I got this one pretty quickly. Figured out how to sight off the thumb and the rest was easy.
  9. I just finished out Faithful Cartographer in Hushed River Valley and, I gotta say, I loved that map. Granted, I was on Stalker and carrying a bearskin bedroll, crampons, and more ammo than most rural police departments, but still. Regular caves, plentiful combustibles (COAL is EVERYWHERE!), and *interesting* terrain (unlike some places..*cough* pleasant valley *cough*). Reading around, though, everyone seems to hate the place. For a change, rather than checking out the maps, I went into HRV blind and found it to be a lot of fun. Stuck to the leftmost side as I entered and looked for caves along the perimeter. Ended up with "bases" established all around the place and easily migrated from base to base for days at a time. The *only* problem I had was getting surprised by a bear, and even then, I got away fast enough but decided to take a few shots at it anyway. Ended up getting mauled by a fatally wounded bear, but I skinned and ate him later, so there. 😛 Other maps get rather tedious, but I found HRV (and Ash Canyon and Timberwolf Mountain) to be a lot of fun. 😄 What say you?
  10. ...and I've only found ONE usable pair of wool long underwear! Double Expedition Parkas. Double Combat Pants. Heck... DOUBLE WOOL EAR WRAPS! But only one stinkin' pair of red long undies. 😕 I also *JUST* got Faithful Cartographer on this run, so I've been EVERYWHERE. The RNG gods have frowned on my underpants.
  11. Got to Bleak Inlet with Level 3 Gunsmithing (thanks to "book learnin'") and a WHOLE LOT of scrap lead... A WHOLE BUNCH of bullets later, I started crafting cartridges at Level 5. 😄
  12. I was just awarded Faithful Cartographer (YAY!!), but my Surveyed Locations was only at 209/212. I had done the Hushed River polaroid, but it hadn't fully revealed three points in the valley. Had to go down and get Valley Cave, Longshot Falls, and Little Bear and Cubs Falls to finish out the full list. Bug? Expected behavior? What gives?
  13. @Leeanda - How far have you leveled up your rifle/pistol skills? I've taken out wolves with a rifle from what I would consider very long distances once I'd reached skill level 5.
  14. I believe I have, but only once (in 1250 Steam hours) and I don't remember what it was. Lots more (but still not a lot) in bathtubs.
  15. Yay? Doesn't help you much *now* tho. Can you put that game on hold until the patch comes out?
  16. I was going to suggest that this may be a(n unintended) consequence of the Endless Night playstyle. I'd submit a bug to Hinterlands and see if this is something they're aware of.
  17. That's "the cave area beyond the break in the rail line" that the author already mentioned checking. In my last few games, I've not found ropes in either of the typical Ravine locations and had to steal one from Mystery Lake or Coastal Highway in order to climb down. It's an RNG event and my RNs have been all bad. 😕
  18. Forlorn Muskeg is a *good* place to spawn?! 😳 I just finished mapping FM for Faithful Cartographer (on Stalker) and t he wolves around the homestead are the worst!
  19. I wouldn't count on anything returning...I'd just like to know that stuff I put down stays where I left it. 🙂
  20. Got this reply: Hi John, I'm very sorry that you've encountered this issue. Please be aware that we've now addressed this issue and will be releasing the fix in a patch in the near future. Keep an eye out for updates and feel free to let us know if the issue persists beyond the subsequent update. Thank you very much for your patience! -Hinterland Support
  21. Yeesh... and now, after three consecutive wolf attacks interrupted by an ice break, it almost didn't matter anyway. One stim and a warm fire later, though, and I'm somehow still here. I hate the Forlorn Muskeg. I really do.
  22. This is really frustrating. 😕 A cook pot of snow cooking on the Trapper's Homestead stove. Pop outside to grab some meat, pop back inside, >>POOF<< it's gone. A recycled can collection on the counter next to the Mystery Lake Camp Office pot belly stove somehow reduces to a single can. The four cans of dog food from the crate in the Spence Homestead turn into one overnight. And one of the Accelerants from another crate disappears overnight, too. Anyone else experience stuff like this? Any suggestions what to do about it? Already reported the disappearing cook pot to Hinterland a few days ago but haven't heard back.
