  1. This. This is what happened when I tried to add sticks. 🤔
  2. I really, REALLY want to get to Cooking Level 5 as soon as possible. All of this is from TWO wolves. 🤣 (Stupid blizzard blew out my fire before I finished.)
  3. My condition was low from retrieving a bear quarters in a blizzard and I didn't wait until my condition was back up to get the rest (though I was Cooking Level 5, so it could have waited) and got wolfed while carrying the last quarter back to my cave. 🤔
  4. Waitaminit...I thought Bleak Inlet was the place you went when you NEEDED (to make) ammo. 😕
  5. Ah... so Bleak Inlet, then. Haven't been there yet. Looking forward to it. 🙂
  6. Where is this? I've not been to all regions yet and this does not look familiar...
  7. I reeeeeeally need to start doing this. I just spent four in-game days looking for a couple of books I stashed and forgot where. 😕
  8. Crafting arrow shafts, arrows, and bows (and maybe arrowheads?) will increase your archery skills. I had a couple of "archery days" at Fishing Camp to burn some accrued food, water, and scrap wood, spending three days outside at the work table (with a fire behind me) crafting arrows (from birch) and bows. Found that I was closing in on Archery Level 4 afterwards, all without firing a singe shaft or reading anything.
  9. Funny story... I was actually standing on the step into the trailer, listening to the growl, trying to see exactly where it was coming from when it suddenly came right at me. No walking, just too slow at turning an opening the trailer door. 🤣
  10. Last report on this matter. Harvested the wolf on the steps and made a run for the trailers (where I'm currently holed up). Roof wolf followed and I closed the gate on it before running on to my trailer. Heard it barking A LOT from the yard but it was too dark and snowy to see where it was. I tried to see him anyway and ALMOST made it into the trailer before it pounced on me after somehow escaping (glitching out of?) the yard. Two bites, a sprained wrist, and a slice or two into the wolf and I'll look for pelt/meal #2 in the morning, both in-game and IRL. Good night.
  11. Okay... it's even weirder now. The wolf is actually on the roof. As soon as I get far enough away from the steps, he can see me and can be seen on top of the rocks. He starts running down, I run back to the steps, and he goes back on the roof. 😕
  12. Okay... I literally paused the game as soon as this happened to come here and post the above info. Returning to the game, the wolf was still in the yard, running about like a crazy thing. He ran from the gate back to the building, right up the snowy hill to the left of the door AND RIGHT INTO THE SHATTERED THIRD STORY WINDOW!! I could hear him walking about literally right above me. THEN...ANOTHER WOLF CAME IN THE YARD THROUGH THAT STUPID OPEN GATE! I had come down from the steps to look for the now-growling-at-me wolf in the window (couldn't see him, but the sound was definitely coming from there) and heard footsteps from behind. Back up on the steps I went and tried the arrow trick again. This time, I loosed an arrow as the wolf got to the steps THEN RAN HALFWAY UP THEM. 😲 He then glitch-froze right there, growling but still-as-a-statue about three feet in front of me. I pulled back another arrow, took careful aim, and dropped him with a shaft in the eye. I then literally paused the game as soon as THIS happened to come here and post THIS. Is it weird that I'm a little afraid to go back and see what happens next?
  13. I've never had the joy of taunting a predator through the open Carter Dam gate and I apparently never will. I just watched from mid-yard as a wolf walked RIGHT IN through the open gate (that I'd only left open because folks here said you could 😕). I ran up to the front door and pulled out my bow. Aiming an arrow at it put in in aggro, but it squealed and fled once it reached the base of the steps, so can't-climb-steps is still apparently a thing even though leave-the-gate-open-it's-fine is not. This may be related to folks finding that wolves are now capable of entering the Mountaineer's Hut in TWM.
  14. I think they must have changed the pathing AI in a recent update because I just had a wolf walk right into the Carter Dam yard through the gate I'd left open (since I'd read here that you could do that and nothing would come through). He fled once he reached the steps, even though he was agro'ed by my aiming my bow at him, so can't-climb-steps is apparently still a thing...
  15. So, funny story... In my current Stalker run, I was trying to get my cooking skill up to 5 as fast as possible so I could start eating the predators I'd been protecting myself from. I was doing this by cutting everything into 0.5kg pieces and cooking it all, whether I' could safely eat it or not (therefore leaving behind lots of cooked wolf all over the place). I had finally reached Cooking Level 5 while out on the ice in Coastal Highway near the Waterfront Cottages. I'd been carving up and cooking a deer I'd shot right there on the ice (with a one-shot kill arrow). RIGHT as the magical woosh-tone sounds to announce my reaching Level 5, a BEAR starts wandering towards me from the other side of my fire. Unaware of just how much of a bear-deterrent fire is NOT, I stood up from my cooking, nocked an arrow, pulled back and let fly...right into the bears noggin, dropping him very close to the fire I was using to cook the deer. I believe it was late enough in-game that I came back to butcher the bear the next morning, but that bear was my Cooking Level 5 celebration meal (and many other meals thereafter).
  16. "The Long Dark was always intended as a single player experience, multiplayer doesn't quite fit with the type of game we are trying to build. Unfortunately at this time we don't have plans to add a multiplayer or co-op mode to the game." (from https://hinterlandgames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041921812-Does-The-Long-Dark-Have-Coop-). I vastly prefer the current play-style to any multi-player game. There's lots of great multiplayer games out there, but precious few great single-player games. Once multi-player is added to a game, experiences designed for multi-player get added that those of us without other game-playing friends can't experience. Sorry, but I hope they stick to their plans and leave The Long Dark as one of the best single player experiences out there.
  17. Ah! Nope... not yet. Just a nerd who loves to both play and read about the game. I had read about the crampons in the release notes and on the Fandom wiki, but do not yet own a pair. Hope to soon, tho.
  18. (Broken image for me, think I teased it out of the URL though...)
  19. So, great answers with great advice, but I'm coming more from a standpoint of leaving behind an area (forever?) in search of your long-term home base. On Stalker, do you trust that there will be a <insert important item here> in the next region, or do you never leave not-my-home-yet without it? (On Voyager, I found that nearly every region was a collection of mini-marts carrying all of the essentials. Wonder if you could do a long-term nudist/empty-handed Voyager run?)
  20. Actually, I do NOT have the Technical Backpack (or Satchel) yet... now I'm curious what made you think I did. 🤔
  21. The Log Sort in Coastal Highway is not a maze; it's an obstacle course! Despite not being able to step over other seemingly lower objects, you can step right up on and walk over the chained logs on the ice in that location.
  22. I've recently gotten much better with the "2" and "H" keys to draw and holster my revolver, but I used to walk around all the time with my revolver drawn. I shot a lot of wolves that way. And a lot of sticks. And some doors and vehicles... 🙄 I'll even admit to Alt-F4ing once or twice just to get that stupid ammo back. 🤣 I still get jump-scared by wolves too much to want to put the gun away, but those same jump-scares will cause me to shoot a snowbank, so it's better holstered, right? What do you do? Walk with weapon-in-hand, or are you a quick draw killer?
  23. And definitely no one tell that you can currently fix tools (quality or simple) WITH THEMSELVES! Only scrap metal required... 😲
