  3. @UpUpAway95 I'd missed your comment when I as I was writing mine. I wasn't implying anything towards you... but rather that it's not something that I find too concerning because we have ways to adjust to it. I'm all for accessibility options, so that those with different levels of visual acuity aren't stymied by it; nor would I criticize anyone if they adjusted the brightness setting to compensate so they can continue enjoying the game with all the rest of the community.
  4. I don't have any issues with the lighting... personally I like the lighting, especially those really dark locations. I like that it forces me to use a resource (lantern fuel, flare, etc...) if I want to navigate through or more thoroughly search locations that I otherwise might be able to "feel my way through." I like that I'm forced to plan for needing a light source. It influences how important that lantern/torch is... and requires a little more planning when we choose a route for the day. As for the consistency or rational behind what how dark which interiors are... I guess I just chalk that up to another one of those scenarios where sometimes a videogame, just has to videogame. That's up to Hinterland and it seems they have it the way they want it... otherwise they would have "fixed" it already if it wasn't what was intended. ...so I respect Hinterland's decisions and I adjust my playstyles accordingly. Adapt and overcome (as we say).
  5. But, we don't have to take it... However, I don't mind gathering some up. I do like to map, and it's handy for crafting gun powder.
  6. As I see it, this is a game that requires players to pay attention to what they are doing. It's a game that has real consequences for mistakes (and sometimes just misfortune). It's a game that (to use Raph's words), "don't want to make a game that's going to hold the player's hand." And... it's a game that is willing to punish us for our mistakes. (which I think is what I love about TLD most of all) If we are careful, and we make sure our reticle "sees" the item we intend to interact with before pressing the button... then we will "accidently" shoot from the hip when we don't mean to. Alternatively, if we simply exercise a bit of "gun safety" and put the revolver away when we don't intend to use it... then we will never "accidently" shoot from the hip when we don't mean to either. Because the pistol can be "fired from the hip" The rifle and distress pistol (flare gun) both require our survivor to aim in before firing. Again, this game rewards careful and deliberate action... and punishes mistakes. If we pay attention to what we are doing, then those accidents don't really happen. If we don't run around with an unlit torch in hand... then we'll never accidently waste a match by mis-clicking. If we keep a fire striker on hand... then that will never happen either, since we get a UI to select ignition source (assuming we already have matches on hand). As long as we pay attention to what we are doing we will never "accidentally" eat raw meat... from the radial we get a bit of a "handholding" kind of warning in for form of an "ARE YOU SURE???" interrupt. If we are paying attention, we can sustain a campfire out in the open literally anywhere. The wind never blows out the fire completely... but rather reduces the fire to about 9 minutes. So... as long as we nurse a fire one stick at a time and we don't pile on wood when we know it's already windy... then we can keep a fire going under any circumstances (I've done this through blizzard more than once) and for as long as we have sticks on hand. If we are paying attention, we'd never freeze to death in our sleep (by trying to sleep 10+ hours while out in the open or in an exposed "shelter"). ...all we have to do is pay attention to the temperature and nap in shorter increments. 🤭

  10. @AdamvR I'd say item duplication would clearly be a bug not intended behavior. I'd recommend taking what debug screen shots you can, copy the save file in case they ask to analyze it (never mind that if you're on console, don't know how that would work)... and submit a ticket reporting the bug to Hinterland so they can get it on their radar as something to investigate and fix.
  11. Just a few from the most recent entry of my chronicle ...Memory Lane... I think this is my favorite individual tree in the game so far... the location... the look... gives off some Tree of the Dead vibes: 🤭
  12. @Glacia If I could offer an idea, I have a possible solution to the dilemma: If interested, you could exercise some player choice to help remedy what you find disappointing about the scenario. For the tools, top tier clothing, and other resources you find too abundant; we can either scrap/harvest them or even just discard them (leaving them where they were found). I've had runs where part of the personal challenge I set for myself was to shred anything providing more than 2*C warmth value... or choose to ignore all "found food" forcing myself to only rely on what could be hunted or harvested. Most tools and weapons can be either scrapped or discarded. If food feels too abundant... we can just leave it in a container inside and let it despawn once the condition reaches zero. I think one of my favorite runs was an Interloper where I forbid myself from using a forge, just to see how long I could last without any tools or weapons... turns out, I could survive and thrive just fine without ever visiting a forge. I just had to change the way I played a bit. 🤭 If find that TLD gives the player far more agency (than most survival games) in terms of how we choose to live on Great Bear Island, and for how long. I find that a few additional personal rules, provisos, and goals/personal challenges work well at drastically altering the game experience without having to change the game or modify settings. When mixed with custom settings, we can really craft whatever experience that feels best to each of us. I very much appreciate the idea of GunLoper, but I think a few additional "rules"/personal challenges might go along way to making it into something perhaps more to your liking.
  13. ...so then, not feature complete... as I said. Besides, I was very explicitly talking in terms of game content... (also like I said). 🤭 Hmm... you don't consider the firearms a feature? 🤔 I suppose from the perspective of the "loper-leet" I guess it might seem that way... but I'd say that any aspect of a game that facilitates gameplay is indeed a "feature." "fea·ture noun: a distinctive attribute or aspect of something." I think it's fair to say that the rifle and revolver; along with gunsmithing and related items/features... would qualify. 🤭 In "gaming" terms... "Feature: Any aspect of a game that creates value and purpose." I think it's fair to say they qualify on that point too. And this is where I already said I agreed and sympathized. I think we all should be able to experience the lore Hinterland has woven into TFTFT. I even offered to the Admins a possible solution to bring to the team. Again, it's not as though I'm against the idea of the Tales being available to folks who fancy themselves "loper-only" players... that's not the case at all. 🤭 But I'm also not someone who limits myself to just one mode of play... so I can't say it's really "a hill worth dying on." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anyway, I'm not interested in being drawn into an argument about it so I'm going to leave it at that. I just don't have time these days for protracted discussions with folks on the forums who just seem diametrically opposed to me, or who may have already made up their mind that their view is the only "correct" one... and perhaps not so willing to consider other points of view. (Now to be clear, I don't necessarily think that's the case with you... but I've been baited in far too often by those who just want a "fight" and I'm not here for that) I've already said my peace, and I stand by it... if we disagree, that's okay.
  14. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [Accompaniment:] Smashing Pumpkins - Today ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I decided I would meet this little personal challenge I've been mulling over. All I had in my pack was two stones, two matches, one torch, five tinder plugs, a striker, two recycled cans, two cans of soda, one bottle of syrup, and 1.47 liters of water. The only other weight I had on me was the clothes on my back and the three Go! Energy drinks for the last push to the Summit. I set out sometime mid-morning (maybe 9 a.m.). The weather was lightly foggy... but was soon taking a turn for the worse. A full-on blizzard hit just as I was making way past the Deer Clearing. I wouldn't be able to see wolves or bear... I had to be extremely cautious. Rather than risk running into the bear and more wolves by Eric's Falls... I decided to take advantage of the climbing rope I'd set in place on my last tip up the mountain. The problem was that it was a longer climb... I'd started up the climb perhaps a bit too tired... I had to stop on the ledge. For the time being I was protected from the wind... so I risked an hour nap out in the open. Of course, the wind changed while I was napping as was starting to freeze very soon after waking up. There it was in front of me... the final climb to the summit. I was exhausted... but this is what I brought the shot of Go! with me. I was determined to only use one... honestly I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it, but I was going to give it my all. I stopped off at the second ledge. I had a bit more in me from that shot of Go! Energy... but I had to wait a bit to catch my breath. I didn't dare take a nap this time... I was freezing, and the biting wind was hitting hard. With everything I had left in me... I made it to the Summit. It was so cold, that the shelter of the Tail Section and my clothing wasn't enough. I had to use one of my two matches to get a fire going. I had about 20 sticks on hand that I'd picked up along the journey. I used my recycled cans to replace the water I was about to slug down. I also had to break down a crate for more heat. I sat nestled next to the fire... waiting for the storm to break. If it didn't... then I was going to have to make my way down the face of Timberwolf Mountain regardless. Spending the night wasn't an option, that wasn't the challenge I'd set for myself. After just an hour or two next to the fire, I was very warm. The wind sounded much less severe, and the visibility was mildly better (but quickly getting better). The most important thing... was that it wasn't nearly as cold. Now was my chance. My mini personal challenge was well and truly met! It left me a bit battered, sprained, half-dead, and hungry... but I made it up the mountain, and then down its face in one hard push. "Today, was the greatest..." 🤭 For anyone curious about how I was feeling afterwards. 🤭
  15. @Leeanda I also support the idea. I think that anything having effects (in this case visual effects) that causes a player adverse reactions/issues while playing a game they enjoy really ought to be considered as an effect that could be toggled on/off in the accessibility settings. I'd say it's not so different from camara sway or other options already available. I hope we hear from Hinterland with their thoughts on the matter. @Admin
  16. I thought about it more yesterday... while sitting in that cave just below the summit. If I had coffee or an energy drink on hand... might have been able to power to the summit in just that one day. After this first trip, I have a fair bit of coffee and three shots of Go! Energy. I may just decide to drop nearly everything from my pack (except one day's food and water - just in case) grab those energy drinks and see if I can power back up to the summit and back down again in just one day. 🤭 I know it's certainly possible, but I don't think I ever pressed myself to actually do it. Spending two days on back-to-back pushes... might be enough to clear what I want from the Summit and haul it down to my main encampment here at the Mountaineer's Hut. I don't know that I will right away... but I'm seriously considering it to get it done. Then I can shift focus back to more thoroughly exploring the region again.
  17. After much consideration... I did decide to take my two hacksaws and make a hard push for the summit. That wolf from further up this slope doesn't often wander down this far... Echo Peak Bear... as expected. 🤭 Eric's Falls Bear; also yes. And onward to Eric's Falls. I had just enough energy for one more pull up the next climb... and just barely made it. This cave near the last climb would be my encampment for the night. Early the next morning... I left the comfort of my warm fire and made for the Summit. As luck would have it, there was indeed a hacksaw to be found. With the other two I had on hand, I knew I had what I needed to safely open all the containers. The Flare Gun was nowhere to be found... I don't know if I'm just very lucky, but I instead I found this: All-in-all there was a good deal of resources to sort and prioritize. Also, most of the day was mired by a very dense fog... but considering I've spent most of the day in the Tail Section, that was fine with me. I decided to prioritize the food and water. I loaded up my pack (going from 19kg to a hefty 40 kg) and decided to shimmy down the face of Timberwolf Mountain. I took only one sprain on the way down... and got home before dark. What a great day. I didn't have a lot of time to chronicle this evening, so I let the snapshots do most of the talking for this one. It was a mostly smooth journey, and I figure at it will take at least two more to bring everything back down. But I'll worry about that after a good night's sleep.
  18. Not sure which route to take next. I provided good visibility; I'd likely want to at least scout the Lower Wing Wreckage there in the Birch Forest. There's always Echo Ravine (and the Casm Basin)... but the hacksaw that I have to hand is getting low on condition. I do have one other hacksaw but started out with rather low condition. I'm a bit concerned that if I keep taking the containers as I work my way up the mountain... I'll have no hacksaw for the back half of the fuselage up on the summit. Finding one on the summit cannot be counted on (even if it is very likely). So now I have to consider whether to make a push for the summit now... or risk having good luck enough to either find another hacksaw or at least a tool kit with which to be able to repair the ones I have. 🤔
  19. "behind" the birch forest among the rock formations closer to that riverside. That's the same bear I've tracked through the birch forest around Lonely Homestead and occasionally heads out farther into field "behind" the Old Red Barn at the Pleasant Valley Outbuildings.
  20. As far as I've experienced each bear is connected to just one Den as its "home" location. Every bear I've tracked eventually always returns to their home Den. I've never tracked a bear that didn't have a Den. Bear to Den ratio 1:1
  21. @UpUpAway95 I don't mind starting a new run for science... I'll let you know if my findings match yours. If I find what you've found, I'll be submitting a ticket as well. (yes, I'm on PC)
  22. @UpUpAway95 In my present run (started before the update), I am currently in Timberwolf Mountain... the spot between the Moutaineer's Hut and the Landing Gear Wreckage has had a confirmed moose and does sport the Bark Scrapings. I've not had the chance to look for them in the previous 5 regions I've already explored. I know that the Bridge in Desolation Point has always seemed to be missing the Bark Scrapings but is frequently an active spawn location. I would suggest submitting a ticket with your findings. If it's bugged, then it ought to be on their list of things to fix.
