  1. The first level and half the second is done... or at least the framework. I don't know how I feel about it, and I still have to figure out the stairs. 🤭 I did also go hunt down the rest of that other Pillager Patrol. I did have two arrows to spare... so the bow I'd fished up much earlier finally came in handy. Maybe wasn't best idea (considering they had me three to one) but maneuvering around the trees proved useful. All that remains of them now...
  2. Yes... it does indeed have to be expanded. I forgot to account for the rails, and I still don't know how the stairs are going to look wrapping around the outside yet. It's also been three days, and those Pillagers are still searching the forest trying to find me. 🤭 I guess they're holding a grudge for their brethren that I lured to and left in that pit.
  3. Drat... there's more of them, and they are still hunting me. 🤔 See, now this is why I need to get this Lookout Tower up without delay.
  4. 😖 Ah, neatly killed by a Pillager Patrol... there were five of them to begin with. Out running them wasn't going to be an option... they were quick. I don't really have many arrows yet, so ranged attack wasn't going to be an option for me. Eventually I had to use the terrain to my advantage. The others were lucky enough to fall to their deaths... this one though... I'll just leave them there to starve. Back to the build site.
  5. I suppose it's also worth considering that I do have a good variety of wood types on this island. I see oak, birch, "jungle wood", acacia, and even bamboo... I'm going to have to keep that in mind as I'm reworking the Forestry Lookout Tower design. 🤔 Hmm... maybe I should have started considering the build pallet before I'd gotten this far.
  6. I generally really don't like terraforming... I always try to leave the world in as close to the original pristine condition as I found it. However, it's unavoidable if I'm to put up a lookout here on spawn. I think I have some more reshaping to do on the far edge where I had to build up the ground for the base layer. As I get started on the foundation... I wonder if I should extend it another meter towards me. I think this time, I want the stairs on the outside of the 9x9 inner core of the tower... but I don't know if I make that work from the current slap boarder, or if it just needs to be a block wider in both dimensions. 🤔Why 9x9, do you ask? The idea is that each level of the tower, I could either leave it bare... use it for extra living/storage space, but specifically in case I want to build a garden into it. Plus... I'd like to clean up this garden as soon as possible and restore this area it to its original state. With the stairs on the interior last time it just didn't feel right, and the top level felt like the hole needed to accommodate the stairs cut too much into the living space of the cab up top. I loved the first design... but need to reengineer it a bit. I suppose I'll keep going and see how the first level turns out...
  7. [PSA] As I mentioned in my tangent post: Non Sequitur... , while I've only come across some minor bugs in the most recent update so far, I've decided to "shelter in place" until the next round of hotfixes. In the meantime... dreaming of living on a deserted (and rather "blockly") island. 🤭
  8. I mean, empty or not it's still a shelter... if folks don't want to use them, they don't have to. But I can and do appreciate that they are there as an option for those who want them.
  9. But crafting tackle didn't traditionally give fishing skill xp either... so I'm fine with lures not granting any skill xp. It's a good question to pose to Hinterland for the sake of knowing for sure what they intended.
  10. Oh... I haven't had a chance to catch up with their published list. I didn't mean to tell you anything you already knew. Cheers.
  11. as for fatigue draining off quicker... now that bit could be a bug. Might be worth creating a ticket and seeing if that's something Hinterland is looking to address.
  12. not really anything new... when starving for a period of time, that "hidden" affliction shows that fatigue is being impacted due to starvation. Don't think it's a bug. It's an effect that's been with us a long while now. It's the added effect of starvation (in addition to the condition hit). What it's doing is creating a fatigue/rest cap that will grow the longer we have an empty stomach. Managing fatigue is just one of the challenges the game asks us to manage. It can be managed and overcome; we just have to be mindful. I don't think there anything's there for Hinterland to "fix," we just have to take it into account if we choose to go around on an empty stomach.
  13. ...non sequitur... 😋 Lindsey Stirling - Roundtable Rival

  15. Couldn't resist taking a peek at the larger of the two fissures. 🤭 For real this time... got to get back to work on the tower. 😋
  16. I did venture across... just to see the island from the other side. I'd only previously allowed myself to swim out once, just to take those snapshots of the cliffs. Discovering the land bridge is one thing... but from the other side: I had no idea this side of the island had two giant fissures... as though an old ravine collided with the large cavern formation. 🤔 Anyway... enough sightseeing for now, I guess. I need to get back to work on the Lookout Tower.
  17. ...Interesting... what I originally thought was a neighboring island actually does have a small land bridge connecting to it. I'd originally intended to remain on the home island until I'd put up the first Lookout Tower and tamed the caves here first... but the land bridge does make it traversable (and essentially part of the home island... 🤭 Maybe that's a little fast and loose with my own personal rules, but I'll take it). I'll be able to reach that large lone oak tree after all... Maybe I'll take time out to see if I can come up with a tree house idea that doesn't ugly up its natural beauty. 🤔 But... Lookout Tower first ...priorities. 🤭
  18. I may have found a new home... I can't argue with the view. I'd finally found one of those large cavern openings on the cliffside (found through caving, I mean). There was a rather terrifying number of Skellies, Creepers, and zombies... This spot was apparently a very efficient natural moob spawner. It was difficult fight to earn the right to sleep here. On the slow grind to get the lumber I'm going to need to build the tower... slow going, but progress is being made. I suppose it would help if I wasn't burning so much wood to keep making charcoal for torches. 🤔🤭
  19. Eagles - Journey of the Sorcerer (2013 Remaster) No reason... just a good grove. Also, Douglas Adams fans will recognize it pretty quickly too.
  20. Frith is generally even tempered and seems to prefer gifts (rather than curses). 🤭
  21. I think this is probably the best rendition I've heard of this song (including the original). VoicePlay - Valhalla Calling (cover)
