  1. Now there's an enemy Hinterland studios should add. Geese. The most terrifying enemy yet.
  2. @Kranium It's not like Great Bear Island is a real location, and with climate change plus the Aurora who's to say that one didn't swim to Great Bear? I personally wouldn't envision this animal being one that would respawn.
  3. I wrote about this once before some time ago as a potential "boss" animal that provides a higher threat/gain in Survival mode but feel like with the Darkwalker challenge we now have something to go off of for the creature's AI. The way I envision this working is simple: within a new region there would be an area that you can only reach via rope. Inside this area is where the new bear roams and as soon as you enter this area the bear begins to stalk you as it has a very powerful sense of smell. There is nowhere to hide in the bear area, but it would be large enough that you could avoid it if you kept moving. There might be some sort of decoy you could craft from fresh guts and a knife that would act like the spray cans in the Darkwalker challenge. If the bear catches you, it will kill you. The bear will not bleed out and would have the same or greater HP than the Moose. It will still be deterred with the distress pistol, but aiming at it with anything will cause it to charge like a wolf. If you manage to kill the bear, it will have a wealth of meat and guts and perhaps even its own special hide that could be crafted into a new coat or bedroll that would effectively be an upgrade of the normal versions. Alternatively, there's no need to go into the bear area and it will never get you unless you do. This would provide another mid to late game challenge for those in Survival mode, one with dangerous consequences if you come unprepared.
  4. Electric chainsaw that can be used in struggles against all animal attacks but it only works during the Aurora
  5. @SpanishMossThat's a little too powerful, I think. Just in caves seems a little more balanced (and honestly darkness outside is never really that bad). Regardless, I agree that it'd need to be awake time. Maybe even something like you need to travel X distance in a cavern instead of a time limit.
  6. Bottom line: this Feat would increase the brightness of caves so that you could navigate them without a light source. The effect itself would be minimal, it would still be better to just light your lantern but you would now be able to see enough in a cave at night or otherwise in total darkness to make your way through without relying on memory or by using right click and your sleeping bag to guide you. To earn it, you could do something like spend X number of hours in total darkness or in caves. It would not affect how bright it is at night outside of caves.
  7. Just finished the episode for the first time, loved it! Now just gotta wait to loot the prison in Survival Mode.
  8. I was thinking it might be useful to have a feat that allows you to consume high-condition raw meat (something like 95% or higher) without the risk of food poisoning. It could be titled something like "Meat Eater" and require you to consume some ridiculous amount of cooked meats (something in the multiple tons). With this feat you would still be prone to intestinal parasites and would still get sick from eating any raw meat that's below 95%.
  9. I thought of this while looking through images I'd taken in-game and saw one where I was climbing down the long rope in BI with some Timberwolves directly below me. Fortunately I had a revolver and max level revolver at the time so they weren't an issue. However, I did have the idea: what if wolves and bears could grab at climbing rope while you were on it and sort of yank it around to try to make you fall off. The simplest way to do this would be by making it take large chunks out of your sprint bar when they attack but only if you are moving up or down the rope. This would occur at intervals of every five or so seconds, meaning you could either pause every so often to avoid losing parts of your sprint bar or risk it by continuing unperturbed.
  10. @OmnijackWould that work? Typically bandages need to be more cotton-based or otherwise more readily absorbent of liquid (blood in this case)
  11. @Stinky socksDoesn't fit within the current weapons meta. @s7mar7inThat's a little excessive, no? The Long Dark is about simple survival, not excessive weapons crafting. Similar to Stinky, doesn't fit the meta.
  12. I feel like it's cheap that you can just hop inside a building or car and predators just forget all about you. So how about a mechanic where, after moving into a building or car there's a period of time where the animal that was looking to say hello with its teeth (or hooves in the case of a moose) waits at the door for you? This is accompanied by sounds of scratching or growling to signify that the beast is at the door (or the animal just circles the vehicle if you're in a car) for X amount of time (~30 minutes maybe) where, should you go back outside the animal will be waiting and ready for you.
  13. "*Grunt* Too heavy" In all seriousness, it really depends on the game and I normally don't use it due to stamina reduction more than anything else. I always run with the bearskin bedroll. My first few Voyageurs when I thought that warmth and wolf fear = everything I was running around with the bearskin coat. Now that I'm more experienced and play Stalker I typically run with either the moose hide for armor or the wolfskin for wolf fear. I did find a bearskin coat in my most recent playthrough and wore it for a bit, but wound up leaving it behind in a stash.
  14. I'm going to start this off by saying that as the game currently stands weapon balance is perfect and we don't need any new weapons (besides the bear spear). However, either of these two items would satisfy a desire to fill up slots on the weapons wheel and so I'll make an argument for them to be added. Both of these weapons would be rare, maybe even rarer than the distress pistol with select, hard-to-reach locations as spawns. First up: the muzzleloader. I've seen posts about this one before and while they never really struck my fancy, I do think it could have a place among the other weapons in the game. At its core, the muzzleloader would consume gunpowder and bullets in order to fire, not requiring cases like the other two firearms. This would make it somewhat more lucrative at lower levels when your gunsmithing skills aren't quite up to par yet. To give it a stand-out place among the other weapons, the muzzleloader would be loaded from the menu, requiring X number of minutes to load (this time requirement would decrease as skill with it increased). It would deal more damage and have a faster bleed-out time than the rifle, but it would also degrade much faster and consume slightly more gunpowder per shot than crafting rifle cartridges. It would weigh 1-2 kgs more and to top it off, could only be fired from the standing position (until level 5) and regardless of level prevent movement when sighted in. Accuracy would be slightly lower than the rifle. Second: a single-barrel hunting shotgun. I posted about this once before and while I'll admit it didn't fit in then, it could have a place now after the gunsmithing update. How, you might ask? By making shotgun shells non-reloadable and have them decay over time like flare rounds do. Once the shells decay you can still harvest them for powder (and bullets for slug rounds), but they can't be fired thus rendering the shotgun useless for anything outside of scrap. I think it would be harder to implement than the muzzleloader, at least with the option to have buckshot, slugs, and maybe birdshot. Overall, it would be a slow-firing but versatile weapon with a potential for high damage. Accuracy would be lower than the rifle, but not ridiculously so.
  15. This would just be for those times when you drop a buttload of sticks in front of your fireplace or dump a bunch of things on the ground and don't want to have to use an auto-clicker or sit there for a while to pick things up. The way it would work would be: upon activation, all items within a small radius around you are moved to your inventory after a small amount of time passes as if you had "Waited" (maybe 1-5 minutes). This would only pick up items that you have already "discovered" and would therefore not effect items that you have not yet collected.
  16. Random idea I had driving to work: what if bandages were re-useable? One way it could work is like this: after applying a bandage to either stop bleeding or cure a sprain you have some amount of time where you remain in a "wounded" status and further attacks or falls can cause your wounds to re-open and destroy the bandage for good. If, however, you pass this "wounded" status' time requirement you are rewarded with a dirty bandage (this would also use some of the bandage's condition, maybe 25-35%). Dirty bandages can be used in place of regular bandages, but using them comes with an infection risk where you would have anywhere from 20-50% of getting an infection from using the bandage similar to how intestinal parasites work: after the "wounded" status is overcome the virtual dice are rolled and you do or not not get an infection. Instead of using a dirty bandage, however, you can boil them instead to clean them into a regular bandage (this would not restore the bandage's condition loss). Bandages would still have a limited number of uses before they are ruined and cannot be repaired.

    Foxes?

This is something I've seen (and even posted about before) I do like the idea of foxes.
  18. True, I'm just too lazy to go through the extra effort.
  19. So turn them on in the settings? Are you talking about shadows of trees and whatnot? Because those are already in the game.
  20. There are "clips" in the game, mind you. They're the thing that the rifle cartridges are attached to when reloading 5 rounds at once.
  21. @odizzidoHaven't had a chance to yet, I live in a hot and dry climate so starting fires for fun isn't ideal. I have tried using just dryer lint before and it seemed to burn pretty slow. I might just light one on cement just to see how it burns.
  22. I'm bored and figured I'd post what is (in essence) a free way to make a decent firestarter. What you do is simple: collect dryer lint and use it to fill toilet paper rolls. It'll take a good few loads of laundry, but I've got a bunch of these things under my desk at home.
  23. I could go either way. Never needed a scope before.
