  1. I completely agree that a higher FOV is better for motion sickness. Being able to see more of the environment at once helps you understand what motions are happening, since there are more context clues for your brain to grab onto. The text might be referring to the distortion that happens at higher FOV settings, but this is a non-issue for this game. The maximum FOV is 100, which isn't high enough for distortion to really happen
  2. Disclaimer: I was never a lurker here. The reason i made an account is because i couldn't find an answer to a question anywhere else. I'm very active on discord, and a while back i was on reddit too, (terminally online nerd, who'd have thought) so i asked my question on reddit first, nobody knew, then on the discord, nobody knew, then i came over here to make an account, because this place was my last hope I'm willing to bet that the reason most people don't create accounts to post here is that there are easier alternatives. Not cuz there's something wrong with the account making process on this forum, creating an account is just always a chore no matter what. On the unofficial TLD discord new people come by all the time, since it's just 1 click away, and it's an interactive platform where you're likely to get answers faster.
  3. The workaround to this is to set up a patreon or similar where people can donate to you independently from the mod The mod remains available for free (which complies with the terms of service) and you get to profit from the people who want to donate to you. win-win. . . . . Minecraft server owners have been doing this for ages According to the EULA (rules) you can't profit off of a server, but people can donate to the server owner.
  4. I think it's good for some regions to lack access to some materials. Encourages travel n stuff.
  5. This already exists in game, all that's needed is changing it from 4 to 10 uses, and adding it to the loot tables. Greer.mp4 Green is a high visibility color just like orange, and there's no reason not to have it. Would bring more variety to the game, and you're also doubling the amount of symbols, since green and orange are different colors you can use to mark different things.
  6. My username should be pretty easy to understand In most games i play i seem to have a talent for finding ways to break things, (similar to DeSync, if you've seen him on youtube) so a couple years ago i started hunting bugs for various games i liked playing. For fun, to help the devs, and to show off Initially it was some niche FPS games, then after i got this game i switched over my bug hunting hobby to this one. Seemed like the devs could use the help, and it's satisfying to do it as well. Finding obscure bugs is like a treasure hunt every time, and discovering why bugs happen is an interesting puzzle to solve I wonder if i could turn this into a job one day. Would be kinda cool
  7. I hacked into Hinterland's servers and managed to get my hands on some footage of Mountain Pass that was going to be used for a teaser or something idk Leaked Footage Of Mountain Pass.mp4 I hope this keeps you entertained for a bit. Initially i wanted to make a fake trailer for mountain pass as a joke but it proved extremely difficult, since i had to work with existing regions and content. All i could show off was like.. green spray paint and the bear spear. I couldn't even spawn in any special knifes or candles to pretend that safehouse customization was in or something. It might seem short and stupid but this actually took like 6 hours to make. I had to extract all the sound files from the game, sort and name them so i could find the ones i wanted to use (WHY ARE THERE SO MANY VOICELINES OF WILL TALKING ABOUT HIS WET FEET, I AM GOING INSANE) plus flying around with dev console looking for good spots to record in, deciding what kind of mini-story this should be, etc. I wanted to do a bit where i would trade some cash and a gold nugget with the trader (although you wouldn't see them), but i couldn't make it work I also considered trying to make it look like a new firestarting animation was added, by using the stone cairn's sound effects (to make you think i was building the campfire off screen) plus the match striking animation on a preexisting burnt out campfire. But it didn't fit into the mini story so it got tossed out oh well. Hope you liked this, i guess
  8. I don't think this is a good idea specifically because we have the snow shelter. I know you mentioned it, but think about it Snow shelters are already very good, stopping all wind and raising the temperature by 15c. They are pretty much everything you'd want out of a tent already As for a portable stove, yeah that could be cool. But i think it would be OP, since you can set up a windproof fire anywhere, which means you can survive blizzards easily, without needing shelter or cover. Maybe if it had a maximum temperature bonus and acted as a smaller fire it could be balanced. 2 coal pieces is all you need to tank any blizzard temperature wise
  9. I think people often miss something about complaints or criticism: When people come here to voice those it's because they care enough about the game to do it. Nobody is going to go sign up to a game's forum if they've mentally clocked out from it and no longer have any passion left for it In my mind there's 3 stages of community/player engagement in games The first Is excitement, where people are happy, excited and positive towards the game because things are going well The second is concern/disappointment/whatever, where people aren't happy, but still care enough about the game to voice that The third stage is apathy, which is the actually dangerous one, in which people don't care enough about the game to be negative about it, and they move on to other things Behind every complaint there's usually a very big fan of the game who's concerned or frustrated. If they weren't a big fan, they wouldn't bother. You're not going to get worked up about something you don't care for And when you're feeling negative you most likely won't go out of your way to praise other things, you're probably gonna hyper focus on what bothers you Yeah, there are overly negative people that only complain about things and always brush aside anything good Yeah, there are overly positive people that only ever praise things and brush aside any issues or problems that exist But most people are reasonable. Anyway uhhh, yeah this game is pretty good.
  10. @odizzido Yeah i really wanted to spare it but it didn't work out
  11. I really like the concept of a photo mode for this game. Yeah, you can always just disable the HUD and take a screenshot, but having the process be in-game would be awesome. It gives you a reason to stop for a bit once a while and.. look around. Remember how beautiful everything is. And of course, you'd have a growing physical collection of beautiful/interesting/terrifying places or moments that accumulate as you survive longer and longer. Which is just an incredibly awesome and immersive way to document your journey through survival mode. I really want to get my hands on it. I also hope the camera is not too hard to find, so we can use it early, and often. . . . This reminds me heavily of Firewatch. It's also a game about a guy in the woods, and you get a camera you can use to snap pictures of the world around you as you progress through the game. But it always bothered me that you only get 18 uses throughout the 4 hour game. The Long Dark is immense in size, so i really hope we get lots of supplies for the camera scattered throughout the island. Or at least the trader is willing to give us some. Let's say that each region has 5 interesting spots. There are currently 15 regions, 16 with Mountain Pass That's at least 75-80 photos, and that's a super conservative estimate just for the maps. There's also transition zones, mines, cool events (auroras, sunsets, hunts, climbs, tales...)
  12. Yeah, true Personally I save flares for emergencies and only light them when i cannot afford to get into struggles For example; in my last run i fell through weak ice in forlorn muskeg twice in a row like a dumbass, so i lit a flare and went to mystery lake, that way i wouldn't get into a struggle which would have killed me because i was so weak and tired
  13. Kinda hoping for safehouse customization It feels like this feature will be the one with the biggest timesink, sincy you could make every base location in the game cozy with whatever they end up adding. And honestly I've always wanted my bases to look nicer. Right now i dump things on the ground in piles, because it's easy effective and convenient, but ugly I also hope there is some practical application to safehouse customization as well, not just decorations. Maybe a drying rack to guts or hides to cure faster, maybe crafting rugs to warm things up, maybe some containers for the mountaineer's hut, stuff like that.
  14. Perseverance mills, my beloved. There has been a prediction going around about this for a few years now, actually At the end of episode 4 we see Astrid reaching perseverance mills with her boat through the coastline. So, if perseverance mills is a playable region in episode 5 (which is very likely) then it will also be coming to survival mode after the release of episode 5. The same thing has happened with other regions, they are added into survival mode after their initial release in wintermute, so the expectation is that this will be the same for this upcoming region. Also, if you look at the survival mode map, there is a very convenient gap on the right side, on the coastline next to desolation point. Perfect spot for a new coastal region, and perseverance mills is a coastal region.
