  1. I like the idea of removing corpses from building and being able to drag them. Burying would seem extremely difficult given the current situation (the ground is frozen and I’m in survival mode). I would take a different tack on this. I’d introduce a decompression system where bodies become skeletons eventually. On that, bones could be harvested to make tools, but I digress. The crows and wolf would scavenge and it would be a realistic outcome of events. Clothing on the bodies would become extremely damaged as time passed since the wolves would destroy them looking for a meal. People looking for crow feathers could feed them. Leave quarters outside and let the crows come.
  2. @R0ughHab1tz I like the idea. Maybe it could be a zone off to the side where the entrance is always the same. Instead of random generated, how about it being a map that could be any one of a number of large wilderness maps? So, something less intensive as random; but will still give you the idea of not knowing where everything is. For the sake of argument, call it 9 maps broken into 3 families. Each family is identical but buildings move around inside them. So you get 9 unique maps in a manageable way. Also, don’t worry about balance in this zone. Building location doesn’t matter. Change the numbers as you like. In this way our games probably won’t look the same in a particular zone. Is this something kind of like what you are looking for or do you truly want random?
  3. I agree with the idea with a muzzle loader addition. I also think hides, bows, and arrows should be able to be crafted without the workbench. I get why it’s in the game but I don’t like the artificial constraint. I picture First Nation people sitting around say, ”If only I had a workbench with a vice and a single drawer; then I would have clothing to wear and something to hunt with. Maybe someday I will find some random furniture to break down to build snares. These sticks simply won’t do the trick.”
  4. @LoneWolf5841. I don’t think your request is that big of a deal. The game on is coded in metric and simply converts to imperial. You’re only asking for a couple of toggles to separate temp, distance, and weight. If it is something you “wish” for then “wishlist” is the place to ask for it. But, for some reason around here, it’s like that opinion test in high school; your wishes can be wrong. 😄. I hope you read this dripping with sarcasm because it is a shot at the naysayers. Hinterland must be smart enough as a company to triage their own work load and decide what they can do and what they can’t do.
  5. @DillonG I also want to see skis in the game. Also snowshoes for that matter. I’m not trying to give you a hard time but have you ever cross country skied? You can absolutely walk, skate, and herring bone or side step up hills. You suggested skis but nerfed them to a point of useless. So, my question to you is where and when would you use them other then the novelty downhill run?
  6. @Ragwort Good point. Yeah, that would be enough.

    Knots

Nice idea. If you were going to go so far as to tie knots, then you might as well add a mountaineering book and learn how to tie a Swiss seat and cordage for some prusik slings. Then simply ascend with no possibility of falling off. As a climber, I would never attempt climbing a rope like in the game. A knotted rope could work on 3rd class terrain, 4th in a pinch (Yosemite decimal system). But on 5th...fat chance. But now I’m talking about adding some mountaineering specific items which could be done. I’m in favor of it, this community...doubt it; it’s kinda in the weeds if you take my meaning.
  8. Does anyone know what latitude GBI is supposed be on? I know it’s off the Canadian mainland but are we talking off the west or east coast or to the north? I’m asking to get a better idea of what flora and fauna are realistic for a given latitude.
  9. I’m in favor of a lot more flora, however I think it’s more for TLD2. TLD is about a winter wasteland and the world seems done. The story continues but I don’t see big changes happening to it at this point. But TLD2; different story. I would like to see edible and non-edible plants added with some type of plant database for the player; dangerous ones as well. As new plants are examined, it gets filled out, but only with the info you know. For example, a picture of the plant, but not its name, not yet anyway. If you eat it and don’t die, edible, it will say edible. If it is also medicinal cool, no information given. If you had the affliction (whatever it is) and then this new plant cured it, you learn something new. Maybe only the roots are edible and the leaves not. You really could go nuts (pun intended) and Hinterland could do it all or do nothing. Maybe a textbook could fill in the blanks of your education. A herbologist challenge could be added where there is no processed food in the world and no hunting or trapping for the character. How long can you survive on plants alone? There is plenty to do with the idea if Hinterland wanted to invest the time. Great suggestion!
  10. @UpUpAway95 So, what I was thinking is to have it have be random. I don’t want it to happen every time. Maybe it becomes more likely if the event was a “near death” experience. What I’d want to see is you don’t know you have it until you try and sleep the first time. Surprise! Now you got this crap to deal with. By night two maybe you can rest to 75% or maybe it will wake you every so often after that for 14ish days, but you can easily get back to sleep. Maybe it could be helped along by some tea before bed. Maybe keep it an early game problem. Maybe as the character is attacked more they just accept the new normal and sleep like a baby. Hinterland can figure out the details if they want it implement something like it. But I want to stress random again. Just a thing to add to the overall story in sandbox. On the other thing. I can’t sleep with the lights on. I sleep late in the winter and am up early in the summer, even with curtains. If the suns up, I’m up, which is why I thought of it. I’m not in love with it either, just a thought.

    addiction

@UpUpAway95 Nope, you’re right; I’m just going for the joke. No buffs. You can’t have a game that has a benefit for smoking or drinking. It’s dicey.

    addiction

@UpUpAway95 don’t want to encourage smoking or drinking...fine, I guess, piss in my corn flakes. 😏 Kidding, but I do take your point.

    addiction

I just want to smoke a pipe while waiting for my venison to cook. Maybe it could relax you and help you sleep...

    Bad Dreams

I’ve seen the mini-game idea. This is a little different. Let’s say you are attacked by a wolf in the day. That night when you sleep there is a chance to get hit with a random affliction. The affliction is insomnia where you can’t sleep to rest past 50% or something. Your sleep is interrupted by a wolf howl and flashbacks of the attack. Then you awake, in the dark and can’t sleep past 50%. Insomnia gets better over time so the sleep cap gets higher over time until it’s gone. While I’m on it. How about a toggle where you can’t sleep indoors during aurora; the lights are too bright?

    addiction

Very real suggestion. An interesting idea...but I thought I played games to escape my problems. Kidding. But yeah, really interesting.
  16. I like to idea because it adds realism and there is a benefit. However, it is very specific. Meaning, if my clothing is wet and not frozen I’ve got this thing I can do. All other times it’s not used. Again, I like the idea and just because it isn’t used much doesn’t mean that it isn’t something to consider. Are there any drawbacks to doing it? IRL there would be water on the floor if done inside. Probably too much for a game. Like, we would probably need to sweep the floor from time to time; that doesn’t mean I want to do it in TLD (no benefit). Could that water be collected for drinking? Just thinking out loud (on a written forum).

    Bear trap

Death comes slowly with most trapping. Usually by strangulation, drowning or exposure. Deadfalls don’t always kill quickly on larger game (pretty fast for mice). Body grip traps do a decent job but there is some degree of waiting for the animals.
  18. I like ideas like this. I’d like to see equipment like this applied to hands and feet. It will be challenge to balance. So, do rifles and hatchets need to be equipped like skis for example? I’m not offering any solutions right now, just things to consider. My point is you can’t ditch skis quickly as compared to a pry bar. One you can just drop, the other you can’t. Sleds are normally used with a waist belt, the hands are using ski poles. To be attacked by a wolf with all that gear attached to you would suck. I like that too. I think that everything you do should have a risk/reward component. Sleds and skis offer fast travel and heavier loads. If everything goes well the rewards are great. But if attacked while you are slowly traveling uphill with all that gear, nice try. Time to start a new run.
  19. I’ve had more time to think about it. 50% is too harsh; there no reason to try if it’s a coin toss. Say 80%. Something where a character of low skill and junk gear will most likely die but a prepared character has a good chance of making it.

    Bear trap

I like the idea. It actually gives me an idea for a whole different game. It would be set in 1820ish where the character is becoming a “mountain man.” Have many of the same mechanics that TLD does. So, still survival of sorts but less “doomsday”. I digress. Back to TLD. I can’t imagine traps like this not being in the area. Once GBI hits decline, only people like the trapper would really remain. The lifestyle would be one of subsistence. To that end, anything that made life easier would be on GBI.
  21. I’m in favor of the idea so long as it’s not a list of tasks with a predetermined outcome. If it’s a challenge were the outcome is not a guaranteed (let’s say 50% success rate with a character that has max skills) but once started, can’t be undone, then I like it. @ManicManiac given my above scenario what does this take away from your play style? I saw that you suggested players not playing they way they want but slowing thing down. Could an argument be made that you simply opt not to attempt a self rescue? Then you get to have your endurance run and others can players can also have their “sprint”.
  22. I like the idea. Anything that adds realism and gamesmanship 👍. I hear the other concerns about changing the game with the current difficulty levels. However, in all reality, TLD isn’t changing much from here on out. https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-10-31-hinterlands-future-plans-include-movies-publishing-and-the-long-dark-2 Hinterland’s started goals are movies, books, and TLD2 along with a fourth (The Long Dark Musical?). Hinterland is looking beyond TLD. So then what is “wishlist” for? It’s for whatever is coming next. Hinterland has a reason to be concerned. Look at what happened with shooters. Call of Duty, Ghost Recon, and others from AAA studios are competing with indie studios with games like Squad and Escape from Tarkov. Norther Lights isn’t out yet but is basically a stolen story. Honestly, I hear you, but, don’t be so in love with what we have that it can’t change. There are basically two types of players here. Those that are Long Dark fans and survival game fans. TLD fans are going to stay but the survival game fans will leave for a better survival game. Hinterland is in a race to prevent that...or maybe they aren’t worried about it. But if that were true, why is there a wishlist?
  23. I’m with ManicManiac on this one. Sandbox could be tough to implement. I personally wouldn’t want the burden but others wouldn’t mind it so, hey, to each their own. Would you also want to implement a realistic life cycle for the pooch? So, as a puppy it needs constant care. A young dog, it’s a benefit. An older dog slows down and at a certain point you have to take it behind a shed? Some of you guys are legends with long runs in the game. It’s long enough to be a dogs lifespan. Sorry to ruin the mood but if we are trying for realism...
  24. I can see it both ways. The last thing on my mind if dropped into a survival situation would be training animals. On the other hand, if you’ve lived for 90 days and have a roof, a stove, and a trap line set up...am I in a survival situation anymore? Trappers in the northern latitudes routinely do that for months. Also, before snow machines, it was done with sled dogs. It’s not too far fetched (pun intended).
