  1. No, I’m saying that the player could spend an equal amount of time outside but more time spent outside at night. But the problem could also be solved simply by getting eye protection; again, not a hard task. The eye protection may get damaged later in the game from a wolf or something, making a replacement set a new emerging challenge.
  2. @Mr. 0 Can you unwrap that a little more. Food in TLD has no calories, heat in TLD isn’t felt, animals in TLD are not killed. Are you saying the programmers would have to map out where and when it would be an issue? @UpUpAway95. IRL it’s not that simple. Snow blindness is more from light reflecting off the snow then direct sun action. But for an in game thing maybe. @Avril I don’t think that would work or I would expect to see more skiers and boarders doing it over opting for goggles. It would probably slow the injury but not stave it off completely. @ManicManiac Good to see you. I see your point but I would argue instead that it would force the player to spend more time outdoors in the hours between dusk and dawn. However, I’m not saying it has to be a difficult thing; just another thing to consider.
  3. @Satouthedeusmusco. You make a good point. It is one more piece of “required” kit like clothing, since the cold is is a constant punishment as well. I would not want to see it be a difficult thing to get eye protection. In a place like Forlorn Muskeg it would be a huge problem; in the woods/shade less so (snow blindness that is). In real life I saw a guy get a mild case and have to be guided off the mountain. Another time, another person forget his sunglasses and cut two slits on the brim of his hat; problem solved. So the fix doesn’t have to be hard but you’re right, it is “one more thing.”
  4. Agreed. Most of my posts are actually ideas for consideration for TLD2. I’ve always heard that the color change is tied to available day light, not temperature. Don’t quote me though, maybe it is temperature and I’m getting it wrong. Ideally, I’d want a game like The Hunter, Call of the Wild, with hunting but, way less emphasis on it. However, heavy on survival elements. I don’t think I’d play anything else.
  5. There are two kinds of comedians, Bill Murray and everyone else.
  6. Good research. I’m going to have to haze myself. Oh well, learn something new every day; rabbits don’t change, hares do. The sprain idea is cool too. Not just walking but actually looking.
  7. What if we had a rabbit hole feature, a warren entrance at the base of a tree or something, where rabbits “live”. Rabbits are crepuscular so we should see them mostly at dawn and dusk. Otherwise, they mostly stay hidden. Say 100% at peak times and 25% or so at other times; maybe even less. Also, the “penalty” for jumping rabbits is they hid for a period of time. So if you jump them during the day setting up traps, no big deal. If you jump them at dawn, you just screwed up hunting and trapping for the whole colony till dusk let’s say. Last thing, shouldn’t they be white since their coats change with the seasons?
  8. For the sake of your argument, how about we assume that the player starts the game sometime in the spring. The winter was extremely cold, like the story says it is. But the sea ice won’t open a passage back to the “main land” till next “winter.” So, you have to survive 9ish months, while preparing for a journey south across a land bridge. There will be no resources out there but after a number of days of walking, you escape. As I say it, it sounds dreadfully boring but you’ll have to figure out how to navigate. Maybe you see some seals... a nowahl wish you well and “hoping you find your dad.” Not sure. The point is after you get half way, there’s no turning back. You could stay on the island forever...that’s an option, but self rescue is another way out. I don’t know, just a thought.
  9. Nice job! I’m going to give that a try.
  10. A proper snow shelter will maintain a temperature just about from 0C regardless of the outside temperature being -40C. I’d much rather sleep in a snow cave (which requires no cloth or stick, but I’ll get back to my point) then a tent when winter camping. Without pissing off TLD overlords ( I know, an impossible task), why should the warmth bonus be tied to a 15C bonus? It seems strange to me to want a realistic survival game that is difficult but defer to punishment if realism makes it easier. Maybe we could have a survival game were you’re dropped into the ocean 20 miles off the coast of Hawaii and you have to figure out the rest? I can’t think of a harder survival scenario while also being true to life. I guess my real question is, what is the community love affair with punishment over realism?
  11. I fully take the point @ajb1978. But I didn’t think I was posting about a previous post discussion. I understand there were other discussions that tangential related to my post but I didn’t find a heat sinking system posted. Sorry, I didn’t find one. I guess my options are to search endlessly on 30k+ posts and either “like” them or keep scrolling. Then after all other options are fully exhausted, I sheepishly, hat in hand, post an opinion, because that’s my role as a new member. It is never OK to bring up an old topic that was discussed a long time ago because the old thread is dead. It is simply not done. Or maybe I should just play the damn game I payed for and let all community elders dictate the game I play or just stop playing if I don’t like it. Seriously though, thanks for posting and being a mediator, but, I get it now. I see how it works.
  12. @Admin Other suggestions are not gatekeeping, no one is arguing that is the case. Wishlist is for players to get their ideas to Hinterland, or so I thought. My mistake. @ManicManiac Your MO is to post a copy paste reminder for people to read a litany of other similar thoughts (mostly your own), disagree with the opinion (the one that was trying to get to Hinterland), and then argue why it shouldn’t change. Not only this post but others. It’s almost as if you are placing yourself between the idea and the dev team, “gating” community content. Which seems to make you a gatekeeper.
  13. @Admin, I know @ManicManiac has been doing this a while. However, now this thread is a hodgepodge of a bunch of other ideas and the original thought is now lost in the sauce. The idea is to have a way to account for heat injuries and cold injuries dispute the presence of clothing; which is different from the current system. I guess I’ll just shut up; everything has already been thought of. No need for a wish list; let’s have a keep it the same list. I don’t care if anyone or everyone hates the idea. But to clutter it with white noise and make sure it gets chocked out doesn’t seem to be fulfilling the “wish” list concept.
  14. I wouldn’t expect every skill to have to be unlocked. Most I would expect players to be aware of. Maybe a toggle option for custom games?
  15. Couldn’t find a heat sinking mechanic that was opposed to the current heat gain mechanic so I posted. Sorry, I didn’t stand on ceremony sufficiently enough for a community gatekeeper. I’ll be sure to punish myself apparently.
  16. When I say tarp I guess I mean any shelter half material. So, certainly not just a plastic tarp.
  17. Could some books unlock skill trees but not necessarily teach a skill? For example, a children’s book about First Nation people could “introduce” flint knapping as a skill but actually teach nothing. The player would have to deal with a steep learning curve were as a proper primitive skills book would make learning the skill far easier while also “introducing” (unlocking the skill tree) for the player.
  18. Add a new slot I think. I’d also want a new slot for crampons or snowshoes. The screen could also become more like a letterbox as the players eyes would instinctively shut as it got worse. Blurry vision from eyes tearing up. Hinterland could go as far or as short as with it as they want.
  19. Can we be able to make a tarp from cloth? Let’s pick a random number, like 15. Then a snow shelter can be made with the tarp and sticks. Now I can head out into the world and have something more dedicated to shelter building. I’d also like to be able to replace the snow shelter with the tarp shelter. However, I would like you to be able to add snow to the top of the shelter, thereby bringing back the snow shelter. Now, you have more options. Do you want to improve your shelter to make it more insulated or do you want your tarp to degrade at a slower rate with no snow on it?
  20. Can snow blindness be added were walking around outside during the day causes an increased risk of snow blindness, similar to eating wolf causes an increased risk of parasites? As the condition gets worse have the screen bleach out and pain killers needed. Eye protection could be added as a wearable slot in inventory or could be crafted from birch bark and line to prevent the affliction.
  21. Can we have a body heat system were clothing slows the rate of heat loss rather than adds heat? I know the current model is simpler but it’s more realistic to have a hypothermia or frostbite risk even with clothing on or even heat injuries (i.e. water immersion, sweating, heat exhaustion, etc.) over the current model. So with this, the torso would default to normal body temp at the start. The upper arms, upper legs and head would be heated from the torso. The lower legs and lower arms would be heated from the uppers. Feet and hands from the lowers. Clothing could retain heat; too much or too little. Frostbite, hypothermia, sweat and heat injuries will be a natural result of clothing options.
  22. What about a hide crafting system where a cured hide give you a certain amount of area? Then the craftable clothing has a hide area requirement. So now I can make clothing from any combination of hides I wish. But also have a system that tracks what was used to make an item. So a coat made from deer and rabbit is good but one made from all bear gets a 100% bonus of keeping wolves away. Half bear, half deer; 50%. Just an idea. Please, shoot it down or make it better.
  23. An atlatl and darts would be awesome.
  24. If it were added you would have another way to make fire.
  25. I like the glass bottle introduction. That would open a new avenue of craft able items into the game. Impoverished cutting tools and arrowheads etc.
