  1. I recently was in Coastal Highway, when I spotted the Misanthropes' Island bear sleeping in his cave. I took the opportunity to shoot him with the rifle while he was asleep. He of course woke up quite annoyed and began meandering over to me. I then quickly backed up, knowing that shooting him again at this distance would mean he would certainly charge. It is relevant to know that I did not possess the distress pistol yet, so a charge at this stage was unstoppable. I backed up quite a far distance, almost halfway between the mainland and the island, when I decided it was far enough that a shot from this distance would not cause the bear to charge. I thought wrong. As soon as the shot hit the bear, it charged from across the ice at full speed. With no guaranteed way to defend myself, and not wanted to risk shooting the bear in hopes of it dropping before it got to me, I turned and ran. But there was one slight problem, the distance I had to cover to get to the nearest house was not even close to the amount of sprint my character had. I ran out of sprint only halfway to the house on the coast. But I remembered the one thing that could save me... the stim.

I had never used the stim before in a way where it would be lifesaving, but here it was used to its full potential. One of the very powerful abilities of the stim is infinite sprint, just the thing I needed. I opened my radial menu, and selected the stim, and just as quickly jabbed into my thigh. I immediately continued sprinting to the house, the bear was not too far behind. I reached the house just in time, I could actually see the bear's shadow behind me as I entered the door. Shaking with adrenaline, I was impressed at my quick thinking in that situation.

Are there any other quick-thinking moments you've had in TLD?

  2. When walking through the glimmer fog on pilgrim, I intentionally got insomnia to see what it did.

Open getting it, you have to wait 35hrs before it goes away. The timer only ticks down when outside the glimmer fog.

However, it doesn't seem to actually do anything, I slept perfectly fine uninterrupted for a full 12hrs. (Contrary to the description of the affliction)

Granted, I did drink an herbal tea as the tip suggested.

Does it work differently for anyone else?

Also, when you have the insomnia risk affliction, it says as one of the ways to escape it "go underground" But there's only one underground area in the entire map. (Under the hanger) unless I'm missing something

  3. My guess for how they intend to implement the trader will have to do with the shortwave radio.

They (hopefully) won't ever actually have another person, but rather someone directing you to caches, for a price. For example, you leave something in a bin somewhere, and are given instructions to find a cache across the map, thus preventing you from ever encountering the actual person

Oh! I think I know why it's the way it is!
Bearskin coat weighs 11 lbs, and that's what it says here. BUT it's equipped, which means it is actually lighter than that. The items are sorted correctly, it's just that the weight of the coat being shown is its default weight.

    It's ok @Admin

I belive this is the explanation for the issue

I called my Seamoth the Doomslayer for a reason…

Reason: I get jumpscared way too easily, and I frankly enjoy firing torpedoes into the faces of those smug Bonesharks.

Well once you get a prawn suit you'll feel unkillable

Yes… it’s getting to the point where I play more Subnautica than TLD! And I’m still pretty scared of… everything :D.

    Is @Admin watching? No?

I have a YouTube series on Subnautica. Here’s my most recent video:

    3 Torpedo upgrades??? Why?

And lead-lined, to boot :D. Oh, and the matchsticks themselves have a copper core…

A cultured subnautica enjoyer I see!

  8. If you must know, I got the matches from TWM. Because I when I opened a storage container, the matches were all the same condition, and this stacked together. Mind you, matches come in boxes of 12 normally. And I had multiple crates with the same condition matches. Of course when I took them all out, they were different stacks. I fixed this by putting all the matches in a container, which grouped together same-condition matches. One of the stack resulted in my 215 stack haha

Lol glad you've worked it out @Ghurcb . Thems still some heavy matches though! (Mind you, there are a lot of them)

@wilsonaka cheers - us Brits use a weird mix of metric and imperial, I should have been able to work that out 🤷‍♀️

    Thank you Admin.

However we would be grateful if you could take note of the comments regarding updating us here, particularly regarding Raph's Twitter feed.

There is also an item regarding this in the Wish List, posted by @SpanishMoss . Titled "Forum Change - Dedicated Twitter Side Bar".

There is definite frustration here that these forums, the official Hinterland forums, do not hear directly and have to see Twitter for updates. Many people do not use Twitter or any social media and therefore are left in the dark.

Many of us have supported Hinterland and TLD since the beginning and it doesn't feel good that we are forgotten here when it comes to hearing the latest news. Especially when it is common courtesy to inform loyal followers about such news, and in the official community space. It is only because of members here who do have access to Twitter feeding back to us that we get the information.

It is the lack of communication which is frustrating us, and the loss of common courtesy we have come to expect from Hinterland. It isn't delays we have a problem with on the whole.

You are also endangering the success of your future push into a (deserved) paid expansion realm, looking to reach both old and new players. Goodwill is huge in something like this, and many of the oldest supporters are feeling taken for granted because of the emotional investment we have in the game.

All we ask is to keep the forums updated. Surely that is easy, makes business sense and offers common courtesy to all your supporters?

    +1

  10. While large important announcements are shared here on the forums, many smaller announcements and teasers are shared exclusively on twitter.

Many people on the forum do not use twitter and would prefer to get their information directly from the forums.

My suggestion is simple, add a sidebar to these forums where recent posts by the relevant twitter accounts show up. (These being RaphLife, intoTheLongDark and Hinterland)

This would allow casual forum-goers to get the same information as twitter followers, without having to go to another site. (A site which many would rather not visit!)

If this isn't appealing, there should at least be a locked thread in the Updates subcategory that contains copy pastes of tweets where it can still be viewed by all.

    Thank you!

Thanks for the info but I don't have Twitter or any of the others either? Just seems a bit unfair that the forum is the last to know.

Yeah, unfortunately if you want the most current info, you'll have to look on twitter. It would be nice if Raphael copy-pasted his tweets into the forums but unfortunately, he does not. What someone should do / what the admins should do is make a thread where they only post updates from the 3 twitter accounts. (Raph, intoThelongdark, and hinterland) so forum-only people can see it.

  12. For something to be added to the game, it must both fit the:

    - ATMOSPHERE, So not something high-tech or modern for example

    - And the GAMEPLAY, Something that has a clear and distinct use, adds to the game, and solves a problem/difficulty currently in the game.

An item/concept must check all these boxes to be a worthy addition. These are no hard and fast guidelines, but are true for all the items hinterland has added, so it would be logical for suggestions to follow them as well.

The recent addition: Ballistic Vest, fits the atmosphere because it's found at a prison, where protection like that might be found.

And if fits the gameplay because newer plays who get jumped often suffer lots of damage, so the vest helps a lot. It adds a dedicated "armor" to the game, where there wasn't much before. And it is distinct In it's role, nothing else in the game even comes close to its level of protection.

While veterans may scoff at the thought of using it, it can be useful for players who find avoiding wolf fights a challenge.
