  1. I don't really consider this to be a crafting suggestion since my idea was merely to open the hood and dip the torch to the car battery during an aurora to light it and then use the lit torch, if desired, to light a fire. I agree, we do already have the magnifying glass, but if Hinterlands plan to add more areas where there are fewer sunny days, the magnifying glass becomes essentially useless. Strikers may be long lasting (depending on the condition they are in when you find them), but they are still finite, like matches. Since the normal condition of the batteries in game are depleted and it's only the aurora that breathes life into them, I thought that perhaps allowing us to light the occasional fire off one in a pinch might make an interesting but not overpowered mechanic that would make two currently rather useless items already in the game (car batteries and flashlights) a little bit useful. It would come in handy for any interloper who might spawn without matches, etc. at night during an aurora; but they would still have to be lucky enough to find a torch also lying around (and there really aren't many of them that spawn in the game). Of course, there owuld likely have to be some mechanic added to allow the player to access the batteries inside the flashlights. As I said, no offense is taken. I respect your opinion and I'm glad you took the time to explain it.
  2. Since I've been doing several new Pilgrim starts to test various game mechanics, I have noticed an inconsistency in the aiming of stones between the runs and am left wondering if this isn't also affecting the aiming of the rifle and the bow. In one of my runs, I literally could not miss a rabbit with a stone even when the stone was thrown intentionally to miss the rabbit by more than a foot. The rabbit would be knocked out every throw regardless. On my most recent run, I'm having the opposite problem, stones that appear to be right on target to hit the rabbits are not causing them to react at all (it almost appears like the collision is missing on many of these throws). For the record, I've not had any issues with rifle aiming on any playthorugh and the one playthrough where I did obtain a bow and arrows, I had no aiming issues there either. That said, if it is as inconsistent as my stone throws have proven to be, that could be an issue affecting some players and not others. Just a thought.... I'll keep testing.
  3. After mostly clearing Mountain Town yet again and finding 4 rifles and 1 revolver (which was yet again only found under Gray Mother's bed), I'm prepared to say that something must be interfering with the intended 'tuning" aspect because the revolver is consistently no where near as common as the rifle. In addition, I am also only finding the very occasional round of revolver ammo in this particular run (5 rounds in total) as opposed to 19 rounds of rifle ammo). This is inconsistent with past starts, so I'm not prepared to say yet that something is awry with the RNG regarding ammo... I will test it all again in another new start. For clarity, all my starts to test the new mechanics have been in Pilgrim mode.
  4. No offense taken... but would you care to elaborate as to why you don't think it would work? IRL, it is entirely possible to start a fire using a battery. You can check out several different methods on Youtube.
  5. I just got a critical hit on a wolf, so they are possible. Given the revolver is a lower caliber weapon than the rifle, it stands to reason that the critical hit chance would be mathematically lower. I'm currently at Level 2 revolver skill.
  6. Arrows completely vanishing. My first arrow fired since the update - no problems with aiming since I clearly nailed the rabbit first try... but the arrow has completely vanished. The shot was taken in an open area between the Trapper's Cabin and the Deadfall Area where rabbits frequently spawned. After collecting the rabbit and thoroughly, thoroughly checking that entire area, I cannot find the arrow anywhere. I've seen this happen to a few Youtubers as well since the update. Please, Raphael, check into this. ETA; I'm finding my arrows easily for the shots I miss, but the arrows disappear completely whenever I hit a rabbit. ETA: I finally killed a rabbit and got my arrow back, so it's not a 100% occurrence... but it's still frequent enough you should be able to replicate it.
  7. I'm actually liking everything about the new update, with the exception of some work left to iron out the bugs.
  8. When you consider how many rifle shots you have to take to get the skill to Level 5 and the fact that it is randomly generated (meaning a container might generate it or might generate some other form of loot), I didn't find the rifle ammo all that excessive and I'd hate to see it reduced. The use of the revolver for defense is going to depend on what difficulty you play. In pilgrim mode, there really isn't much use at all for it. In stalker, particularly if the player does not yet have access to a forge to make arrows, etc., I can see the revolver being used a lot just to scare away wolves. I'm willing to wait to see until after I'm many, many days into a stalker run and seeing what it takes to get to Level 5 in revolver skill before deciding about it.
  9. I think it would be cool if we could light a torch from a car battery during the auroras (and then use said torch to light a fire for whatever purpose). It would give another weather reliant but infinite fire starting source (similar to the magnifying lens currently). Similarly, the game to allow the player to spark a fire using the flashlight batteries during an aurora.
  10. I think that the benefit of using tinder should be equal regardless of Level, but their should always be a benefit of +10%. That means, at Level 5, your highest chance of starting a fire without tinder or accelerant should be 90% and using tinder or accelerant should boost it to 100%. Higher level players have an increasing chance of starting a fire as it is and that would still apply, but it would never go above 90% without the use of tinder or accelerant. If anything, the benefit of using it should be higher while it is mandatory... simply because that is the stage in the game when, at most difficulties, the player has the fewest options for starting fires and the most need (due to inadequate clothing) to start them with more reliability. For the later game, I think 10% is enough of an incentive to still use it on occasion without making the difference so onerous that the "optional" aspect of levelling fire skill doesn't itself become obsolete. ETA: As an alternative, I think tinder should be added to the burnable fuels section so that, in a pinch, and out of sticks and other burnables, the player could optionally burn up excess tinder to, say, keep a fire going an extra minute or so to finish boiling some water or finish cooking some meat.
  11. I think it is completely random with a percentage greater chance for revolver ammo to spawn than rifle ammo. My count on two different Pilgrim starts since the update, one in Mountain Town and the other in Mystery Lake (all areas of both regions thoroughly looted): Mountain Town: 30 rounds rifle, 52 rounds revolver; Mystery Lake: 14 rounds rifle, 73 rounds revolver In playthroughs before the update, I was averaging about 30 to 40 rounds of rifle ammo, although I did have one Mystery Lake start where I only found 20 rounds of rifle ammo. Of course, I likely have missed some items, but I tried my very best to spot everything.
  12. Adding my two cents - I would also like to be able to dismantle old fires. Right now, I have an issue with a fire I put in front of the trailer at the Carter Hydro Dam - one of the cooking slots has sunk under the snow so that fire only has one cooking slot now. I'd like to replace it with a fire to get two cooking slots again, but all I can do is add another whole fire pit and I don't really want to clutter the area that much.
  13. I had to sleep 4 hours to clear the sprain and pain. I probably waited another 2 for the weather to clear and I kept checking the journal for another 4 hours or so. I'm pretty sure he should have bled out by then. Also, a bear was wandering around Nonamed Pond, which is the spawn area of the bear I shot. I'd say it was a miss IF I hadn't been following such a clear blood trail up to the point I got the sprain. There was also a huge pool of blood in the snow where I first shot him. I've been told that any animal that leaves such a blood trail will eventually bleed out and die. If you just wing them, they don't leave a blood trail. All things combined, I'm pretty sure that he must have reset when I transitioned indoors (which was, as I understand it, what happens with the bug that was identified in Alpha.
  14. Yay, Xbox version of this update is now Live... I'm updating as typing this. Thanks Raphael and Hinterland team for looking into the delay. You're the best.
  15. I've noticed that, since the update, my kills are not showing up until after the animal actually bleeds out. Tested with both wolves and deer... originally the hit but no kill and then a kill getting added after the animal actually drops. As a result, I wasn't expecting to see a bear killed until the bear actually went down. As I said, I did have a strong blood trail that I was following right up until I got the sprain. I'm thinking that the "healing upon sleeping" issue has not been fixed.
  16. Nice... glad it's just the RNG gods toying with me on this one. I'll not worry about testing it further.
  17. I hear you... On the ML start I mentioned, I found 3 rifles, but only 14 bullets for that gun. I did find 73 revolver rounds, but as I said, the only revolver I found was in the prepper cache (the last place I cleared on that map). I'm 99% sure there is no other revolver in that zone since I've cleared absolutely everything very thoroughly. I am going back to triple-check the dam though (breaking down all the crates and boxes - just in case). In the earlier Milton start, I found it right away under Gray Mother's bed, but I never did find another anywhere in that zone after clearing it thoroughly.
  18. It seems to be really rare. I did find one under Gray Mother's bed in MT when I started in that zone. I started another file in ML and didn't find one at all after a thorough search of the entire zone and I had basically given up. I did, however, eventually find it in the prepper cache. I'm not sure yet, but I think it is possibly as rare as the flare gun... maybe even only one spawns per game.
  19. I'm not having a big issue with it. The sights on the rifle do seem to be a little off. I think one factor is aiming fatigue. You really can't take too long to aim. The longer you take to aim, the more likely it is that your character drops the gun slightly when pulling the trigger (actually starting the animation of lowering the gun completely just as you pull the trigger).. which makes sense to me since the rifle is heavy. I haven't tried out the bow yet.
  20. I shot the Unnamed Pond Bear with the .303 rifle and was following a clear blood trail for quite awhile when I incurred a sprain. A blizzard was also starting up and I did not have sufficient cloth on me to build a shelter or to even treat yet another sprain. I was between Max's Last Stand and the Camp Office, so I opted to go into the building and sleep off the sprain. When I went back to the area after I had healed and the blizzard had passed, the Unnamed Pond Bear was back to calmly wandering around the pond. I thought the mechanic was that if the animal was leaving a clear blood trail, it should bleed out eventually, but there was a bug in the game where animals could reset if the player went indoors... but I thought that was fixed. Can anyone confirm. The other odd thing I'm getting is the sounds of a distressed bear... but the bear I see is just calmly wandering around the pond. I'm on pilgrim, so I have scared the bear I'm seeing a couple of times now, but the distressed sounds continue long after that bear goes back to being calm. It's almost like I have a second, invisible bear around... perhaps the one that should be dead by now?
  21. Raphael mentioned yesterday that they needed to do some additional testing (not sure if that just applied to the Xbox version or consoles in general). AFAIK, PS4 got the update, but it's still not available on the Xbox (10:30 am MDT, May 10th).
  22. Update 1.49 is still not showing up this morning. Still waiting anxiously for it. (I've just received 4 sprains - every limb while walking up a hill to a prepper cache site in ML and I was not overencumbered, tired or sprinting.) The path up to that cache site is the same one I've taken many times before without incident. There really does seem to be a connection on the Xbox with attempting to turn Will and getting a sprain. I also received one just turning around inside the Camp Office while slightly (1 kg) overencumbered.
  23. As of 5:25 MDT, still no hotfix update available on Xbox here.
  24. Is this hotfix out on Xbox yet? I've restarted TLD a few times this morning hoping to get the update notification, but I still haven't received it. I'm in Alberta, Canada.
