Wow, leave for one day and look at all the chatter!
While I agree @peteloud may have gone a bit too far, I'm guessing he is frustrated and made an emotional post (we've all done it, myself included!). Both he and @Leeanda have been active participants on this forum and I would really like them to stick around. Each has their own "flavor" to contribute.
Yeah, there are actually quite a few items in game that become obsolete (I'm thinking clothing now). There is a mod that allows using tinder as a fire fuel source, which I think makes sense.
I don't recall all the custom settings off-hand, but I seem to recall there are actually quite a few which influence loot found. Maybe play around until you hit that sweet spot?
I meant, you picked a difficult place to have a base. Yes, there are some amenities there, but the hauling of gear...yikes.
Isn't there a "drop on one side, run over, and pick up" method though? I seem to remember someone posting something about that.
For as long as I can remember, first thing I do when entering a building or cave, strike up the lantern. Not only does it help the eyes (mine are old also!) but it also helps find those sneaky hidden items.
I feel ya, Pete. Luckily, I'm not affected by many of the bugs others experience, and when I do, I've gotten used to overlooking some of them (unless they are game-breakers). I've been playing lots of other games too - partly because there are some GREAT ones out recently and partly waiting for HL to release new content/work out issues.
From outward appearances, there does seem to be something going on in the HL studio. I could venture many guesses, but I won't. My loyalty and love for the game will keep me coming back though!

Hitbox typically refers to the "area" in which interaction with an object is enabled. For example, say you're trying to pick up a box of matches. If you hover the "white dot/pointer" too far away from the object, you are outside the hitbox and cannot interact with it. Once you cross into that hitbox "boundary", you can interact with the object.
