  1. The tradeoff for slower medicine would be even slower rest times to cure the sprain. 2 hours of rest is nothing. Maybe varying degrees of sprains can exist that require different rest times and medicine requirements.
  2. Maybe a concussion, a hoof to the head can definitely cause one or worse.
  3. My wording was terrible, Apologies, for clarification i wasnt saying we shouldnt talk to Grey Mother and get supplies for her for information. I found that it was justified. I wasnt dissing fetch quests or getting information from the two npcs. I totally agree with your reply. The only quest i didnt think needed to be required was survival school. However, even in that case, Will needed to know what plants were medicinal or not and how to use them as a characyer development and survival tool. But the story could progress without that knowlege further down the line unless it acts as a story element where Will nurses the doctor back to health or in an ironic twist. If that were to happen or similar, then survival school would totally make sense being a "required" quest. I didnt think the story was boring at all, quotations were around it earlier to imply thats what some of the community thought about it. Fix my rifle quest was a fetch quest, but it worked fine, the reason is due to story relevance, and meaningful action. One could say Will also "fetched" the bear's ear, or medical supplies for jeremiah, but theyre not complained about. Again, sorry about the bad wording, i tend to play devil's advocate a lot and challege my own points and it can lead to an unfocused statement that can be interpreted different ways.
  4. Appreciate the news! The moose sound pretty unforgiving, I doubt a single arrow or rifle round would drop them either. As for the story, it was good, the most interesting parts were the fix my rifle quest, the first 5 days, discovering milton, the bear part, lake gunshots, and moving through the hydro dam. Plenty of exciting missions but they were spaced out with "boring" fillers where you go out and fetch x amount of some material just to get the npc to release a bit more information, i think thats what most players complained about. The part with grey mother worked fine because the player was still "learning", but by episode two, survival school should be optional.
  5. The featured art on the steam store page is adorable! Who knew that Will plays poker with the wolves when he passes time? Who made it?
  6. Great quote, @selfless, technically with the current game, everything thats not in real time would be a super long loading bar until someone else did an action as well, (kinda like that one mobile game called Blockheads). Harvesting, sleeping, waiting, forging, crafting, cooking, and repairing all would turn the game into a loading screen simulation. I do like the suggestion of showing gloves on your character and your current coat's sleeves. And maybe when the rifle is equiped it has to play an animation of the player taking his right hand's mitten off or pulling off the part the covers the fingers if its one of those cool hybrid gloves. It doesnt really bother me too much however. Also, welcome to the forums @XAlaskan_420X!
  7. @Patrick Carlson PM! Omg, haha thanks. I thought it was 11 AM. I had the time zone correct though. haha.
  8. @Patrick Carlson Hmm, the code's not working it seems, (I use pc steam and copy pasted it and even typed it) just a friendly heads up. Maybe im impatient and its released a little after 11 haha.
  9. Honestly trading in that dusty roadmap for a more frequent devblog was a very good idea in my opinion. Roadmaps, build expectations, expectations that are unrealistic even if you plaster "aspirational" all over the list, and give a false sense of "tansparency". Devblogs, allow us to hear about current workings and more short term goals being accomplished. It may ruin the surprise of new features being implemented, but it wont leave us looking too far forward either.
  10. The way time works in the game would make multiplayer impossible or really weird. Whoever wanted to harvest a fir log or accelerate time in any way would have to wait the full game time instead, or accelerate everyone else's time. I hope that helps. I agree that this game is best meant as a singleplayer experience. It makes being immersed much easier as well.
  11. For some reason the text on this is completely blank and only shows up when i select it like im going to copy paste, im viewing this on mobile. As for the diary: Really well laid out and written as always, I'm glad you've been keeping us in the loop with things and everything here sounds like a pretty good plan! 4 days of night on a different branch was a very good decision. While I didnt mind it, i can see where people who just bought the game or are working on a specific achievement dont want to wait until the event is over to continue. Im looking forward to December and as always, its always good to hear from you and your team. Thanks for this amazing game. Appreciated!
  12. To me it almost looks like clothing is now the only factor and clicking.
  13. Ah, just realized i called methuselah mathias. Redwall must be on the brain haha. Where did we learn Mathis's name though?
  14. I think astrid didnt get jumped by the cons until she got to milton, what would the cons be doing way out there in the wilderness? Unless maybe they chased the dead guy in the cave there from the road. The forest talkers shouldnt be active due to what looks like most stuff being abandoned since the 80s. However, for some reason they are active again; one was attacked at the lake cabins and another found dead in the machine shed. From what i read in this post, people are calling the convict mathis... so we have Mathias the old man by the dam that not everyone seems to see in their story mode, and mathis the convict IN the dam? I dont really think the con has a name currently unless i missed something. Also, Hinterland stated that there will be no voiced dialogue, its too much of a stretch for them realistically. They have little experience in 3d animation and paying the actors for the extra lines would cut into the actual budget of getting the story complete and well done. Reading over this my post feels a lil negative, its not meant to be interpreted that way but i worded it the best i could.
  15. @Timber Wolf, the exhaustion numbers confused me, I always believed that was the most important factor. Have you tried with a character with a fully depleted sprint bar instead of exhausted? I've no clue how youd do that consistently though.
  16. Im me too Edit: wow, maybe i was asleep when i wrote that, haha.
  17. Darn, no I did not, i just noticed the distinct orange, i could be wrong anyways as well, but his quote about the locked doors and things off limits is pretty spot on. Idk if i wanna re-do episode 2 just for that but ill try to look into it more.
  18. The dude in the carter dam was wearing a convict outfit underneath his coat.
  19. Perhaps she failed to succesfully operate on a crime-lord's family member... Maybe she is on the run from the law for suspected murder.... or maybe its murder, yeah its definitely murder. Ive had the bear at the small pond by trappers cabin spawn underground before. Was absolutely terrifying having an invisible bear block your path and then pop out of the ground in front of you as it charges. Other than that, only time ive been attacked was climbing timberwolf mountain and this bear wouldnt letme get around it and It was too windy to light a torch.
  20. Id definitely choose the cliff over the bear, they walk towards you even when you dont have any smelly items just for being near them, meaning its hard to move around them when dealing with natural barriers as well. If you have coffee id drink it before the descent because i believe tiredness and what footwear you have affect sprained ankle chances. (It could just be superstition though too since i havent proved it but it feels like it.) Also, back on topic about Astrid, in the trailer she seems to want to go into hiding, i wonder what they got themselves into. Also i just realized the three active members in this thread have almost identicle profile pictures... spooky. Selfless is the odd man out, but still.
  21. @SnowWalker, I alternate between the two characters to get a novel feeling every game, both are good voice actors but i have to agree, MacKenzie's is a lot easier listening and less likely to startle you. After extensively playing both, ive noticed Will seems to have more varied dialogue as well. I cant remember which, but one of them grunts too loudly when traversing downhill and falling, id have to play to refresh my memory but currently I'm refrainig from playing it more until release to make it feel extra fresh.
  22. Yup, 1 and 2 are will, Astrids story is still being worked on currently.
  23. Probably because Astrid is a unique, strong female name to fit a character traversing the frozen canadian wilderness, fighting wolves and bears along the way. They sure as heck wouldnt call her "barbie" so an old viking name would have to do. Vikings are all the craze these days. It makes her that much more awesome. Also a lot of our player base isnt just male and would appreciate having a unique female to play as, not some all too common misproportioned doll with a delicate (or seductive) name. (Not to insult anyones names or anything) Its a good question and maybe there is more to it than just a design choice. Would be interesting to know. But for now im assuming its because its "cool, unique, and fitting to the theme of the game."
