Ice Hole
The Log Sort that is located in Coastal Highway is at first just another location but lately I began wondering where are those logs coming from and where do they go. The area before the tunnel is named train unloading. It seems the logs are being delivered down to the log sort. The road going down to the log sort area splits and can be reasoned that this is to accommodate multiple trucks bringing logs down. Once the logs are in the log sort area the logs are prepared by binding them into flotilla. Questions. Are there logs floating in from other areas on the coast making this log sort a central hub. Where are the tugboats that haul these logs? Where do these logs go from here? A lumber mill is my guess. The train tunnel from the unloading zone goes to some other area. Is it bringing logs in or taking them out? Post your ideas about the lumber industry and help expand on this topic. And Now For Some Canadian Brand Multi Media Wonder why this was explored? It all started when I began speculating on a new region. After contemplating the map a possible new region is appearing to connect Pleasant Valley, Coastal Highway, and Desolation Point. The roads from Pleasant Valley (End Of The Road) Desolation Point (Broken Bridge) and train tracks from Coastal Highway are converging in this area. Could this be the urban area? XaldinVii
I would figure they came from ML. You see a logging area there close the train tracks. The train tracks leads from ML all the way to the unloading area in CH. Along the tracks in the Ravine you can also see logs that have dropped off the train as well. I would assume they were being taken from ML to CH. But another thing to point out is the the Engine Car can be found going the opposite direction in BR so that could be a point to it going to a lumber mill somewhere on the island to the west. Plus some of the Forest Walker notes talk about the operation in ML being illegal. Maybe they were trying to supplement the logs coming into CH with logs from ML? TheEldritchGod
Actually, if you check most of the waterways in that area, they are clogged with logs. Most of the logs get floated down the rivers when it's no longer frozen. I suspect they have guys with hooks on poles to get the logs moving when they get stuck. The ravine logs empty out somewhere else, but I assume they get floated over to log sort, somehow.
Coreopsis
Oh thank you for posting the log drivers waltz vignette! I loved it when it was played on tv. It is exactly what I thought of when I saw the log sort area.

There is a bridge over a ravine in broken railroad. This could be the area for another log sort. The lumber coming down from Milton via the Basin, Then there is logging in Forlorn Muskeg and Broken Railroad adding to the numbers. Logs must have been flowing down to the coast from the left side of the map to the right. The urban area could be where a large lumber mill facility exists. Wonder if Nick Adonidas will make a cameo? Ice Hole
The drop point for the logs are being released down the ravine. On the right side is the ravine and up ahead is the area to drop a log. The timber dump cars are gathered in the staging area on the left. How's that for a log flume ride. UpUpAway95
I think we might already know the name of the site for the lumber mill on the island - Perseverance Mills.

Weren't there earthquakes though? Perhaps the flume collapsed during one of them.
