  1. I see what you are saying but this does not seem like a prohibitively costly technical fix. If the skybox and celestial movements are written at last how I expect, shifting the positions to be more consistent per region is a relatively minor math adjustment and requires moderate testing. Before even considering that, first, I think there is an assumption being made about the entrance and exit of the regions FM and ML in your example. The tunnel could bend. In fact in all cases of transition zones with maybe an exception for CH-broken highway and Ravine-BI the relation of the sun position in comparison to any other neighboring region can be explained away by just asserting that the transition entrance and exit do not have the same orientation. Even if we were to accept the limitations you offered, I don't think it is problematic to know 'per region' which way is North and use a sun stone accordingly.
  2. Early on in one of my Voy games I placed a bed roll on top of some wires in the Dam ... there was an aurora that night ...
  3. I really don't mean to be rude or overly specific here but from my perspective the aurora did not kill you ... your lack of supplies killed you. Sometimes we gamble and loose and you lost this time because you gambled that you wouldn't need as much supplies between auroras. While the conditions of the lose are more complex I think of it in the same respect as walking around without a flare gun. If I walk around in bear territory and get mauled by a bear I couldn't shake then I think that is expected. This situation is no more surprising to me and no more random than any other element of the experience.
  4. I completely agree. I can snap a wooden broom over my knee and you better believe I'll do that if I'm freezing and need fire. I think that boom sticks made of wood these days are actually pretty strong and they are compressed but I still wouldn't need a hatchet to "dis-assemble". As for the tinder, that also makes sense to me. The material is pretty perfect for a tinder bundle and I think it would be worth 3.
  5. Something I expect in The long Dark 2 to be honest. It would be too far of a cry from the spirit of this game but I really like the idea of having to plan for seasonal changes in game.
  6. I think it would be important to keep defenses the way they are when mobile because the revolver is sufficient and anything more may become OP. Static defenses do not seem to exist outside of prefab structures. One thing I think could be nice is like a wooden spike(s) that can be planted on the ground. They would be erect-able only once and require things like logs or reclaimed wood and some cured guts for line/rope. A number of these could be placed in a circle, for example, to keep wolves away from a bed roll. I would think weight and scarcity of supplies would be a factor that has to be considered. After placing them I would hope that there is a risk of breaking the line/rope and dulling the condition of the item would occur. This condition loss would be accelerated by a wolf or bear running into it. To me it sounds like a nightmare to test and the opportunity for exploitation is high but if executed well might be a nice addition for those that want to combat cabin fever in a hostile area.
  7. I've seen a number of wish list requests for a compass. I agree that it might be a nice item to have but I'd be worried about the balance it might upset for the risk involved with bad weather. I'm certain there are plenty of other threads for that debate but what about a sunstone? It would require finding the sun in bad weather and figuring out the cardinal direction from there given the time of day. It would have to be found and then polished/cut/crafted that would make it's acquisition something to work for and it's use something that isn't so easy and potentially more rewarding.
  8. That area is nuts, I just finished extracting all of the lootable resources out of there on a custom game. I think i spent as many revolver rounds in there as I got FROM there .. luckily the whole reason was to stock up on reloading supplies for the day I eventually run out so not a complete net 0 return. I did get an extra rifle out of the trip, left it at the entrance to the case to Bleak Inlet along with all the scrap lead!
  9. Hold onto all of the tinder bundles and cat tails you find. Once you get a high enough level in fire crafting you don't need the tinder and can use them to make blizzard trails on the ground. I usually make a network of trails on the icy bodies of water so that if i get lost on the ice in a blizzard i can walk in any direction and stumble onto a trail which will bring me to shelter. Thank you Wintermute ep3 for prompting the idea 😄 Also, Stop and listen. I don't know how many times I narrowly avoided a predator encounter by just stopping for a moment and listening. Oh, and use the weather or it will use you. Smell carries down wind so walk with the wind on open ground and against the wind on broken up ground (to not be slowed down) (Originally posted on FB but seems like Hinterland really wants to promote forum use and I'm all for that)
  10. It must not be consistent. I started and completed the achievement post-update. I was concerned with what you mentioned but I mapped all of the Thompson community proactively. The only thing I struggled with was the mine entrance. I had to climb on top of it in order for it to show up.
