Day 6: 4 rabbits, 0 snares ruined , weight 0,8-0,9 per rabbit
Day 7: 0 rabbits, 4 snares ruined
Day 8: 4 rabbits, 0 snares ruined , weight 0,9-1,4 per rabbitI got bonus wolf on day 6. He came up to house to discuss who owns the rabbit hunting ground.
When there is time and my Astrid is not harvesting rabbits or recreating traps, she wander down to nearest fishing cabin. Fish and rabbits combined could feed maybe two survivors. Of course it is only voyager difficulty.

Nice. So this is not walking simulator only for you. It is housekeeping simulator as well. I must admit, such tidy houses are appealing. Mine are mess

I feel the game quite opposite. Those boxes are filler. And only for first few days. There are other things in the game.
The scenery. Although it is not filled with ultra mega hyper details like other games like Far Cry, it is somehow beautiful.
The planning. Even though you are equipped, the game can end your character rather quickly (or slowly when you are trapped in mine with no aurora). Resources are limited and you want to strech them.
The permadeath. It is not terrible for first few days. But later I would not like to part with my character I have been much through.
The freedom. I like the fact there are no quest. There are only tasks you create for yourself. Somebody is mapping whole region (good luck with that, maybe new region is comming). I am playing with rabbitses and bearses now.

I plan to continue. I have three goals. Check if it is possible, get Expert Trapper and move my run towards 500 day. Though it may not be every day post. Rabbits can feed my character in game (although Astrid seemed little bit anoyed last day, so I had to take her fishing), but my family needs real food.

Thanks to @Loonsloon there is one science attempt I want to do. Check if it is possible to deplete rabbit farm/spot/groove...
Settings:
- Voyager difficulty, start at 259 day.
- 6 traps, checked once per day at morning.
- If a trap is ruined, it is replaced immediatelly to avoid go out of sync.
- Traps are placed in the same spot.
- Location is few meters north from Jackrabbit island cabin.

Are you leaving Forlong to right direction? You should head back to the Mystery Lake. If it is so, I would go little bit back from the transition and there again.

If this is new way how the bear is moving, I require machine gun and tons of ammo. 😁

Imagine: You are in Quonset, Cabin Fever is imminent. You take a sledge up the wood haul road. Ride down cca 5 times and Cabin Fever is gone....

@Plankeye101 I know it sucks one can not play the game. But those screenshots. IMHO it is like an art.

Sweet! I have a new laptop I'm going to try this out on; and run the linux native instead of the windows version via proton.
If this fixes the flickering landscape issue on linux I'll be basically as pleased as pleased can be!
So glad to see that this is happening!
Cheers, guys!
By flickering landscape you mean the fact the landscape changes its shape once and stays as such? Or do you mean changing here and there.
I can report the first one on Windows 10x64. Steam game. I dont have the video capture enabled. But it seems like this: Walking towards a rock or mountain. It is solid object, not like branches or such. You can see it and see its shape. But sudenly shape of the landscape changes. And stays like that.
No problem with loading, saving and such.

Yeah, for me it looks like a Gothic cathedral rebuilt into medieval castle to defend against foreign conquerors. And in modern times, fence and watchtowers were built to reuse the castle as a prison.
Not sure how it fits Canadian architecture though.
I think it was not cathedral. The shape is not church-like building. It seems like more fortress or something rebuilt to strange mansion. But hey, it seems like Great Bear is home for little bit excentric people, so the architecture can fit to taste one of them.

I would be glad to get some options to cook different meals. Not for any benefit. Just for the variability. You know, you can just roast the venison, but when it happened and you are in someone kitchen with some spice and maybe starch or potatoes, you could cook a stew.
The jerky: I love jerky and I would be glad to be able to make my own in the game. it is incredible for travelling.
About alcohol. I agree it would be not good message. The only use I can think of is to postpone cabin fever for one night. Get a cup and sleep inside. But get hangover the next day (reduced carry, reduced stamina, reduced shooting skills) and of course again cabin fever. This could be solution for the nonsense you get the fever, there is bilzzard outside and you still cannot sleep.

The sledge could be good for hauling whole base equip. But from my POV (little kid in me talking) what if I build one, drag it empty on top of some slope and then UIIIIIII?

I have noticed that some beds or bunks can have slim metal pipes in the bed head or foot. Could we harvest it?
The result would be metal arrow shaft. It could be more durable, probably heavier which can mean higher bow decay and higher bleeding chance.
I have limited experience with archery. Maybe it would be like shooting crowbar from bow. But maybe it could work.

Yup reverse chronology is great idea.

I have checked the place where bear stood immediatelly after 2nd shot. The bear was busy with running and screaming. There was no blood so I assumed it was grazing shot. There was no sleeping involved. First two shots were in the ingame morning and the fatal third was in afternoon.
You know when there is a bear in Quonset area, it is better than pocketwatch. At morning he goes for his morning walk down the trailer road and in front of the garage. Here it was I rudely interrupted his morning jogging. I just wondered if the bear would continue on the walk from the point he was rudely interrupted. And he did few hours later.
I am glad I got the bear and all my arrows back (one is in halves). But the questino is if we can count on bleeding mechanics or we shall just crit everything we want eat.
-
Recently I got a bear. I used three arrows. First missed and broke. Second connected and bear ran away. I checked, there was no blood on the ground. I waited about half ingame day and the bear wandered back again. Third shot did the work. When you check the bear, he has two arrows. I supose the third arrow is in bear head and it was crit. But what about the second arrow. According its possition it should have caused bleeding. Yet there was no blood on the snow when bear ran away nor when it came back for second arrow.
I thought the not/bleeding was fixed. Or was the second shot just grazing hit? I thought the grazing hit does not attach arrow to the bear.

I feel you. I am part of development team as well. Zoom is not good enough substitute to the kitchen where you meet your coleagues, hear some news, get some new ideas over coffee☕. I miss the immediate communicatino with my coleagues as well. And it seems my company plan this to the end of this year or longer.
Work from home has its perks too though. Like son jumping on my head, wife not realising, that my body is at home, but I am working....
As a player and QA I could not agree more with not releasing a version you are not OK with.
I hope you folks are OK. And thanks for the possibility to go to Canadian wilderness from time to time.

I would like to see something like lantern or magnifying glass decay/damage. You know action based. For example ice breaks under you and you have matches. It should wet them and lower condition after they are dry again. Especially for the paper matches. Or bear slap can break some matches. Matches stored in right places can have indefinite life time.

@Arcx I dont have answers. I do not know the game code. Just observations. I hope Hinterland will solve this, but not by sacrifying the game stability. I kinda got used to this delay. Personally I can live with that.

Well, sorry - it shouldn't take several seconds to save a 10MB savegame. My system isn't the best one but it's got SATA6G and a Samsung 860 EVO SSD. My savegame is 10.8MB and it takes over 5 seconds each save. That's 2MB a second with a 550MB/s-SSD - something's wrong with Hinterlands save-mechanism.
I dont think the disc operation is that long. IMHO it is computing/coding/zipping the save file. Apart from file header and footer it seems like it is coded or comprimed. I think players like me does not make the computing easy. I store hundreds kilos of meat outside on the ground. Not sure but maybe storing them in container could help. BUT placing them in container would cause disappearing the precious meat. I tried to tidy inside rooms and put everything in cabinets. It did not help. I am too lazy to try that with every item stored outside. And you know, tinder plugs and cat tail heads are laying on the ground over all Great Bear island.
Funny thing: In the file header are some information like name, display name, time, probably location. Then there is part starting with "boo". Maybe it should scare possible tinker from tampering with the file.
I noticed somebody in here has a personal goal to destroy every item on Great Bear. I wonder what are her/his saving times.

Please make Ketchup Chips the norm in game. I haven't had Ketchup chips in 4 yrs(real life).
I am not sure with new sandboxes. But recently I returned to one of my old sandbox, which I have not touched during the event. And voila, I found one ketchup chips bag in Quonset.
