  1. My Astrid became good at making fires. She can make fire in waterfall:

    Or even in the rock:

She still looks for improvements. She was not able to walk close to the waterfall to try start fire behind it. But there is plenty waterfalls in the Hushed River Valley. And the fire in the rock does not seems like much. But she was in mortal danger there. This ledge is mysterious. One can walk right into stone. If she continued, she could be swallowed by stone and faded into the long dark.

  2. I think your math-fu is correct. BTW how do you measure ingame distance? Do you just walk and count step sounds?

I also think the distances are scaled. And I think some objects may have slipped from scaling. When you approach some bridges, for example the one near Grey Mother house. I always feel like my character shrank and it is now dwarf in giants world.

I think designers did good job with scaling. We dont have fast travel like in another games. It would be dull experience walking from Clear cut to Loading area. 3 ingame hours means 15 realtime minutes. It would not be nice even with auto-walk.

  3. If I remember it well, there is very old tractor in Pleasant Valley near Thomson Crossing. It is located near the store. If I am not mistaken, tractors from 1950 had still possibility to crank start them manually. Fuel could be fish oil. My father in law used all kinds of oils in his diesel car from 1980.

Of course you would have to start a fire under the tractor first. I think it is common morning for some people living far north. I have seen a video of russian guy going to work. He had to thaw the fuel by making fire under his Lada car.

  4. The fire on ledge is in Mountain town. When you go from Grey Mother house to the Radio tower. There is small lake there with the tree you can go on. No glitch, just little goating. I am playing on Voyager.

The wolf is glitch though. I shot him and he fled bleeding. Then he attacked a deer and died probably when eating.

@piddy3825 You did it? Oh my. I could survive it on my difficulty. I tried to place a fire on said glitched wolf, but no luck.

  5. Today I was able to place fire on a ledge. I know, not much. But access and placing was tricky.

If you're going to make fire instead of shooting wolves its going to be a short run on your game☺

Still like to see where else you manage to put fires though!

Well I am becoming great with wolves. I tamed one. This poor creature is still cold because I was not able to warm him. 😁 See

  6. Finally after long solitude on Great Bear I found a wolf, who is nice to me. I will call him Dusty. It was not always easy. At first I had to use a revolver to shoh him I am the alpha. But then we hunted together. You can see him at our first catch.

  7. I do carry both of them in two occasions. When moving to a map I dont have one stored (otherwise I carry rifle ammo only). Second is when hunting big game. For hunt itself I have a rifle. But for moving the precious meat and guts I prefer revolver.

Third occasion is when I simply forgot to put rifle down in a base when just wandering around gathering sticks and stuff. It always ends by headpalm when I check inventory on the other side of the map.

  8. I would go with time compression. Imagine all the gear. I think most of us would give up hauling with 40 or more kg of gear. 1km/h of steady pace with all this on back is pretty good IMHO. I think it is good compromise between game and reality. IRL you would be making stops when moving with such burden. Between stops you would be moving at normal pace (maybe little bit quicker in order to have this effort behind you faster).

  9. It all started by pressing accidentaly 4 instead of 2 while retreating on the said tree. You know it is like real life. You want to shoot a wolf and accidentally you start a campfire. I think it will be my new hobby on Great Bear island (when my character is not busy stringling for survival).

  10. All you need is sunny day, some sticks and magnifying lense. Of course you can do it other way, but this one is cheap. First we have properly heated truck with double heater:

    Hmm cosy.

Then I started car race. Which one is more fiery?

One can only hope the whole tree will not burn.

Ethernal question: What is warmer. Sun or fire?

I've played enough to where I can orient myself pretty well...with one exception...PV - that darn map still messes with my head!

Me as well. I found workaround. I made screenshot of the map and rotated it. The North on the map is on the LEFT side. After that I was able to orient on this area. After while my head accomodated this rotated map and I dont need it anymore.

  12. I played the Wintermute as kinda tutorial as well. Now my main play is Voyager. I am right before day 500. I am aiming to 1000 days without any starving/hibernating. And after I hit 500 day, I shall start mapping the Great Bear.

  13. So you would be driving from spring to winter. And do you end in winter at Broken Railroad when Collapse is happening? The you would have to find way out? Or it would be like sandbox game and you would be driving and driving and driving? I like both options.

  14. I liked the EP3 as well. I played it to last big fish and ghost deer. The only glitch for me was rescuing those 4 passengers. It should be on timer. Because when I got it, I went to solve another problems and let it sleep for 4 ingame days. I think those poor people would be frozen by the time I went to rescue them.

And timberwolfes? I like them. I imagine the wolf pack would act like them. Of course I have no direct experience with wolfes.

I wonder what character we will play in EP3. Would it be Will? Last time we heard of him, he was on the floor unconscious. Maybe he was moved to the prison. I cannot wait.

  15. I just wonder if I am only one who encountered the old bear twice. Long time ago the quest was with rifle. I remember that I had 6 or 7 bullets and the bear had to be hit 5 times. But in precise moment. I dont recall the cave after last shot. I think I had to collect ears and paws from the carcass.

My second go was before EP3. I just ran EP1-2 before that again in order to have the whole story. In my opinion the spear tackling was easier. And the cave escape was like written for me. I love stealth thief-like games.

  16. I forgot to put in continuation. I was running the test for 50 days. Then update happened and my character went venturing to Ash Canyon and not come back yet. Here are the decreasing graphs. This is number of snared rabbits

    image.thumb.png.64ba56096ef578d7a38413e9201b48e9.png

And here it is energy total and balance:

    image.thumb.png.68ae98ffdeedbfc4b19e04578a0d01a6.png

I know these results are not conclusive. I have not reached the zero. But the trend can be seen. I dont know what is the animal population decrease curve on voyager. I hit 300 days when the test was around 35-40 days.
