  1. very true, I will keep an eye out on other saves should I get to FM.
  2. Was heading toward the forge in FM when I went on my usual path and proceeded to fall into the water. (How many times I fell into the water is irrelevant... cough...) Anyway, as you can see, there's a bright blue patch here where I'm guessing there should be ice? I received no warning (the new red ! which I do receive other times). Is it possible this is a place I fell into the ice previously? this is an old save (500+ days). This is the path I always take to the forge and I don't remember it being an issue.
  3. Heyyyy.... can confirm: new items definitely can appear in places you have already placed something....
  4. Thanks! I just hope stuff I have splayed out on surfaces and stuffed into cabinets don't prevent me from finding bullets etc etc
  5. I know it's rec'd to start a new playthrough, but is it still possible to find the revolver and energy drinks in existing SM saves? I just took a quick look around Camp Office and found nothing.
  6. As I was harvesting meat from moose quarters outside of Trapper's, I started to hear strange noises. Wanting to get on with the harvesting to best preserve the meat, I didn't stop. When I was finished, it was windy as heck, and the sky looked like this...
  7. store everything except for soda, beans, and peaches outside (away from carnivore patrol paths) crackers and cattails don't degrade. don't eat them unless you're about to die only cook raw meat that's 50% condition or less only repair the best clothing, and only when its condition has gotten low enough that upon repair it won't go beyond 100% never travel without: bedroll, medicine, tin can, matches, and maybe enough material to make a snow shelter use prybars (when you have the choice) to break open fishing holes; other tools are worth more for your survival never use tools to break down objects that can be done by hand
  8. This makes a lot of sense. Much more than cabin fever.....
  9. I like this. Would make for a lot of extra code I would think, but things should indeed freeze. No need for complicated "chipped tooth" etc, just make it need to be 100% thawed.
  10. I mainly play Pilgrim to avoid having a heart attach from predator attacks, but the point that the island WOULD have a lot of left behind items is an excellent one.
  11. Are you a nomad or a squatter? I'm a squatter. A collector. Come the advent of future civilizations, I could be the museum curator. Ancient oddities from The Before. And lots of boots.
  12. Maybe the new food item is vodka. A little for the cut, a little for the gut.
  13. I'm hoping it means that you won't sprain your ankle anymore just from walking along horizontally with no reason to "fall". Inclines, declines, and tripping over a branch I can get behind. Walking down a road I cannot. JERKY. Would be an interesting mechanic that has to differentiate from just putting a steak on a table. Take a raw slab of meat (fish can be cured too) and cut it into strips and set it out to cure like any other item that cures in -game. Or more accurate, has to be near a fire/smoke. Could also cure under the sun... but smoke is better. I don't know how they'd work that. They'd have to come up with a rack you'd place near a fire. But... it would probably just be "slice up, drop inside, wait" lol. Soup would be another interesting addition. The mechanic is already there (cooking pots). Any kind of meat + water could be a soup. A very bland soup....
  14. mmmk here we go I'm not usually one for feeding the angry demitrolls, but... 1) this is a game. 2) since when can you just... eat snow? yes, it will satiate your thirst, but it will a) cause you to burn calories to melt it and b) might have any number of bacteria in it. 3) this is a game. 4) you can survive quite well with just a diet of meat and fat/marrow, fish are a good addition, but also the stomach contents of herbivores. no, never tried it, but the arctic peoples of Earth have. 5) this is a game. 6) our playable character is not a survivalist. they are a pilot or a medic(?) in Wintermute, I believe. so they probably aren't used to carrying the weight of a grown person on their back while climbing a rope. and while in Survival mode you can pretend to be whatever, the game's canon suggests the former situation. 7) this is a... you got it... game. 8) I've never have, could not if I wanted to, eaten an entire deer in one go in the game. granted some animals would be (realistically) lean as hell, so yeah, some animals would yield very little meat (esp scavenged ones). But never have I ever downed an animal in a game and been able to eat the entire thing in one go. Except for fish, if I was starving and the fish was smallish. The rabbits are gonna be lean as all hell too--and they're ALREADY lean ("rabbit starvation", anyone?)--so I wouldn't be surprised if one didn't get much yield from them. True, the meat yields in the game are overall, what, halved? from what they'd be IRL (maybe more drastic than half; I forget what the game yields are per animal). But as I see it, you being on your own and downing a moose with realistic yields, you'd be able to sit on your arse and not do a damn thing for a long, long time, and therefore removing the exploration/looting aspect of the 9) game, which this is. 10) what is the difference between 'tired' and 'sleepy'? I'll wait. 11) 12) while it's true the 'animal fleeing' mechanism is silly, so is the respawn rate (depending), so is the fact that rabbits exist at all, so is the fact that ANY animal exists because all those grasses should be DEAD. but it's fine, because 13) THIS IS A GAME. 14) If @vargata asks one more time "have you ever" I'm going to morph into a rage demon and destroy you all. Seriously though. write a damn letter to the devs. Don't parade your outdoorsy experience in front of fans of the game while simultaneously belittling "n00bs" who just want to have a good time just to make a point of how unrealistic a video game is. jfc.
  15. Tell me about it. One of my first playthroughs. I was having a ball. I decided to venture out of MT to see what life had to offer (by the gas station, down the rope). On my way back with loot, I sprain my wrist. Can't climb a rope with a sprained wrist. No pain killers. Left them all in a kitchen cupboard in MT. No bedroll, for I was planning to return to my own bed that evening. Could not heal. Could not rest. No gun... I decided that a slow, agonizing death from the cold and hunger would not be my style. I could not even pass out due to the pain in my wrist. There was a cliff. I jumped.
  16. I woke up this morning and decided to give finding a pie one more try. @ajb1978 gets the first slice I'm just so glad I got to not only find a pie but survive long enough to eat the whole thing with a side of... green tea. Haul from Quonset was ridic generous. Shame if this can't turn into a regular save file....
  17. What's odd is that twice I went there just now and both times all that was waiting for me was a newspaper. Both times. And I'm not seeing any candybars at the cabins either so I don't know. In any case I'm Done now. I tried. I'll have to have the real pumpkin pie soon to make up for it.
  18. I started three new games to see what I could find in CH and nope, no pie. Only misery and death. I never found one pie. I feel I missed out.
  19. I really feel bad for those who maybe just started out on Day 4, or who ended up somewhere with poor gear and couldn't build a fire. It seems utterly hopeless. Why do none of the houses in CH have fireplaces/usable stoves (at least the islands and the house by the lumber yard)? So silly. Let me start a fire in my bathtub, or something! I also find it odd that a house in Canada with no broken windows isn't better insulated and is below freezing inside. The cabins in ML were much better insulated.
  20. I can't last 20 minutes in the open without going into Hypotherm. Risk, but I did make it to Trapper's, just to see what's up. Seemed a cozy enough place to die as any, as I'm out of wood, only a few CBs left.. but there's a dead deer outside I'm going to check out, and then... I might as well go to Milton. If I can see in these conditions... which I can't always. I only made it to Trapper's because I've run that path a million times before. Nope. The walk to Milton is just too damn long for my gear.... My only hope is to fish in ML, but I'm not going to bother because I have to do other things now. It's been cool, Hinterlanders!
