  1. HRV is a great interloper start; all the top tier stuff available in interloper is available on the map, once you know where to find it. I love HRV; while it's challenging the amount of natural resources on that map is off the hook. I suspect that the earlier poster is right about stuff going when the corpses go; that's a definite bug in the latest release and it causes a tremendous amount of loot to despawn before the player can get to it and there are a LOT of bodies in HRV. The bug looks to me like they all despawn (along with any ravaged deer carcasses) three days after the player enters a region for the first time, as if they were normal animal carcasses killed by the player.... fwiw.
  2. Try playing with the SSAO setting in Options -> Quality
  3. I read in the steam deck announcement that you folks have done work that will improve rendering in Linux. Does this mean we can finally expect to see the years-old flickering landscape under Linux problem to finally be fixed? I’d love to be able to switch back to running the Linux version of the game instead of the windows version under Linux using the proton compatibility libraries.
  4. If you get into a struggle and end up with an infection (i.e. you don't/can't treat it with antiseptic or omb and it progresses to infection) you will need antibiotics or shroom tea to treat it. Thing is in a very long run game (i.e. far longer than I've ever made it) I could see that leading to inevitable death; when you run out of omb and antiseptic you will get infections; after that every struggle will eventually require treatment with antibiotics and/or shroom tea, and when you've emptied the world of those the next infection you acquire from a struggle will kill you as you will be unable to treat it.
  5. Oh no. You've got a very good chance of still being alive at the end of it. What you really don't want is to have your clothing be soaked going into it.
  6. Came across another one from the TT memorial twitter feed. It’s a beaut: “Pine Trees at Sunset, 1915
  7. They are despawning after three days like all the other carcasses. This happens three days after you enter a region for the first time, so when you enter a new region you've got three days to get 'em all. Gotta get 'em all! Yes, I feel that this is a bug and not intended; that said, having them disappear and putting them all on a 15-30 day randomized timer to respawn is not a terrible way to change it... have spawn points for the carcasses, have half of 'em spawn when the player first enters a region, and then start respawning each of the spawn points 15-30 days after the previous carcass despawns.
  8. I've wandered over to the other stone cabin; Bricklayer's and Mountaineer's are actually pretty close to each other. I got some stuff done during the day, but I think the evening's going to be a write off.
  9. Not true. Mountaineer's Hut, the Bricklayer's Cottage, et al are considered indoors. So are the backs of caves. That's why you can dry pelts and guts in them. They will also contribute to Cabin Fever.
  10. Yeah, I mean, we get to see the remnants of their cache in the mine in survival mode; I think we can safely say that since it all fell in after the event and the utter lack of other humans in sandbox that they're long long gone by the time the survivor crashes at a random spawn point on GBI.
  11. Cool. Yeah, I can see how it'd be hard on the computer and maybe hard on the melon to see screen space reflections on the deer.
  12. How are you getting the reflections on the ice surface? Is that a mod? I see you answered that down-thread. Interesting.
  13. I've been hanging out at Angler's for the last 22 days; that's how long it took for my survivor to heal all four of the broken ribs he got from the moose. I've been wandering around knocking between the Bitter Marsh and Anglers. It should be possible to survive here for a long long time overall, but it'll be rough. There's a super-productive rabbit grove and the occasional deer shows up, and the fishing hut in the Bitter Marsh has been invaluable while my guy's been recovering. The Narrow Falls Cave is a good spot, well away from predators and quite pretty, which is good wrt cabin fever. I was in there the other night for just that reason (all those hours passing time and sleeping in Angler's tipped me over the edge) and after a couple nights in there I took some shots of my walk back to Anglers, and did a little circumbobulation around the island that Angler's is on and took some screenies. When I exited the cave it was snowing quite heavily but by the time I got back to the cabin it was clearing up. Looking back towards the Narrow Falls: Looking across the river towards the burned-out forest around Anglers from the waterfall at the Narrow Falls exit: Went around the back end of the island to see if I could find a fir limb (nope, because fy that's why) and looked up towards Wolf Overlook: The clouds and snow just wiped themselves away right after this shot; by the time I rolled around to change my angle it went from grey to blue:
  14. Oh yeah. Heh, coincidentally enough my moose rib guy is down in the valley below you. I have max cold and max blizzard set so good weather down there is rare. Got this just a few short moments ago, though. Nice view of the rope bridges. Do a bud a solid and toss a few pieces over the side, willya? 🤪
  15. I have been using autowalk on linux since the feature was introduced and last used it last night. It's not a linux thing. Something else must be going on.
  16. Saw that view just the other day. Got completely pwned by Mr. Moose. Situation was heavy fog in the area around the fishing hut in AC. Damned moose kept finding me as I attempted to crawl away. Somehow I didn't die.
  17. Heh, I've had two before, but never four. The thing about moose stompings is they don't destroy condition like wolf and bear attacks do... plus I have (had!) a good armour rating with mukluks, combat pants, and bearskin coat (picked up in AC on an earlier trip). However, I've got over ten days of curing before I can really get on the move again... and probably closer to twenty with the number of hours it's going to take me to finish off the last broken rib. Oh I chewed up a lotta bandages that day. Interesting. I've not tried that. Gonna see if I can figure out the goating route up there first though. Sounds like a fun challenge.
  18. First one will heal in 120 hours; they run up from there. Gonna be a while though; that's definitely going to take a couple-three weeks before I'll be back to normal.... I'll be heading back to Mountaineer's because I've got a lot of food etc there which will allow me to accelerate the recovery time... though maybe I'll see if I can figure out how to goat up from the fishing hut up to Foreman's while I'm all gimped out.
  19. Extremely foggy day, kept coming to and trying to walk away but being down by the fishing hut meant that the little s.o.b. kept redetecting and kicking the crap out of me. I did kill it eventually. He's gonna look nice when I put him on.
  20. It depends. The best time is when the amount of repair percent perfectly matches the missing condition to bring it up to 100%. What that time is depends very much on the item in hand. Check the wiki to shortcut figuring out what they are. N.B. that you can repair really small items like the toque or socks from nearly zero to perfect, but you shouldn't wait that long because if you've got a 20% condition tuque and tangle with a bear you can pretty much guarantee that the toque's going bye-bye.
