  1. Alright so. Hello once again everyone. First time I've been on here in a while, and even longer since I last had a serious survival sandbox. So here's a fun little discussion thread, one that's not all that unfamiliar on the forums but is still an interesting topic nontheless. How do y'all kill time when there's simply nothing else to do? I can't help but ponder that as I sit here staring at my roaring fire with a raging blizzard outside, not a care in the world since I'm slightly overencumebred with a great supply of firewood and food and drink, all my equipment in tip top shape and no skill books to study, a cup of lemon and rosehip herbal tea in my hand in real life. I personally just... enjoy it. The audio, the warm glow of a fire, the gorgeous sunsets, the beauty of the night sky. I'll find somewhere safe, plop a fire down and just sit there mesmerized taking it all in. That's a tradition I've long held in this game and think it's one of the most important moments. Heck, I've even read books to the background noise of the game. The scenery is, and always has been, absolutely stunning, visually and audio wise. And my mind seems to always wander, do my fellow survivors share in this tradition? I'd love to know what y'all do when simply waiting on the time to pass 😊☕
  2. Okay. Here's a pretty simple one but one which would make a huge difference to me. I LOVE decorating my shelters. Instead of just stuffing things all into one container I'll spend hours dropping everything onto the floor and finding somewhere to place it. But I've noticed that my book shelf looks a little... weird. Yknow, with all my books laying flat on their back on the shelf. And it's odd having to throw my coat on the ground by my boots when I come in out of the cold when there's clearly a coat rack right by the door! Just a simple little quality of life aesthetic improvement
  3. I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed the rifle missing every shot. But does the problem still persist at high levels of the rifle skill? I figured it was just recoil at work with an inexperienced rifleman at play. If you know guns, this man handles the kickback of his rifle very well but with a recoil like that I'd expect an inexperienced rifleman to be jerking back with every shot, until he gets the feel of things. Especially if this is the first weapon they've ever held. I missed 4 shots aiming at the heart of a deer in mountain town (I know head shots are better but that feels too videogamey for me so yes I risk just tracking it instead) and I finally placed my shot - which was fatal- by aiming for the leg rather than the shoulder. But as I said, I started a new game and my skill is at level 1 so I can't speak for higher levels. Has anyone tested this? As for the revolver. It works fine. I've killed 3 rabbits and 2 wolves, 1 shot 1 kill on all of them.
  4. Well raph I just want you to know - and a quick disclaimer here, I am absolutely not showing pity, this is my honest opinion - I believe hinterland is doing great, and will continue on to do great after this project. I've been following you guys since I was 14. I'm 20 now. I scraped up 20 dollars, in pennies, to buy this game because my mother wouldn't let me have a new game that close to Christmas that year. I'm not kidding. We have a penny jar in the kitchen. I emptied it. You've been a huge part of my life and this community has aswell, thus my rant about it going sour as it unfortunately has. I think this game has had a few hiccups along the way, *cough* pre-dux *cough,* but you have no idea how happy it makes me that yall did the right thing and went back and improved on it based on the opinions of your fan base. That itself puts you above most developers out there as far as listening to the community goes. And as I said in my previous post, I understand that your patience is growing as thin as the chance of not getting food poisoning from a 5% condition granola bar with the hostility coming from the community lately, and I wanted you to know that I I've never taken your occasional hot-headedness to heart. You're only human, raph, we all understand that and no one at all holds it against you. Just know that there are still plenty of us that stand by hinterland and support what you're doing. Y'all keep on doing what you do to make this game - nay - this masterpiece a reality for us. It is truly a work of art and remains my favorite game 6 years running. Wishing all y'all the best. ☕
  5. A bit off topic here. But man has this community changed. We used to all be so friendly around here - most of all to raph and the hinterland crew. Even if we didn't agree we could all have a simple discussion without being at eachothers throats. It's one of the reasons I'm not very active on these forums anymore - even though I still play the game daily. The magic that was once here is just lost to us now. Constructive criticism is fine. But please do be civil. And please stop giving the dev team such a hard time. This game is a masterpiece with how they've reworked it from predux - if you do have an issue with how something turned out then do voice your opinion. But don't sit there and tell the dev team that you know what's best for their own game. To be fair raph does come off sometimes as slightly hostile - probably because he's fed up with the crap this community puts him through - and tends to put a lot of emphasis on this being HIS game or THEIR game. That's not a very fair argument since without this community hinterland wouldn't be where it is today and without our support and contributions this game wouldn't have come this far. But also without hinterlands dedication, sleepless nights and hard work over these years it wouldn't have come this far either. So can we all just calm down? Grab a cup of rosehip tea and just, chill. Everyone. I swear every time I log on to check on updates once every few months I'm met with bad vibes and hostility. This isn't the hinterland forums I know and love.
  6. Oh don't worry - the revolver works just fine against wolves. I've killed 2 already, but those were charging me and I got headshots. I'm not sure how it'll work as a hunting tool, but if it's anything like real life it should work as a hunting tool in a pinch
  7. So is it just me or are the wolves a lot more tame in this update? There's been several occasions that I've been within 5 - 10 feet from a wolf, on stalker, and the wolf pays me no attention as if it didn't notice me. They're much much easier to sneak past and less of an obstacle over all since I can just walk right past them now
  8. Disclaimer: I know this isn't a hinterland issue. It's more likely due to Microsoft's end. But I've been waiting almost 4 hours for this update and it still hasn't become available to me. Kinda disappointing because with my rural internet connection I'm either gonna have to stay up all night or just wait until tomorrow to play it at this point edit: Xbox one user
  9. I agree on the deer. One deer, a decent sized deer, will feed you for months in real life. The amount of meat we get from deer in this game is a little low. But besides that. If you want to do more exploration just play on voyageur or pilgrim. The hunger and thirst isn't so bad on those and there's no shame in playing the easier difficulties, because it's all about the experience you're looking for. Personally I like surviving for more than a month at a time so I typically play on voyageur. I only play stalker when I want a challenge and have only tried interloper once. Named my save file "the grim reapers Sprint." It was very appropriate. Survived 20 days on that one first try. Oh and there's also custom sandbox. Tailor your experience. Turn your hunger down. It doesn't effect achievements. There are plenty of ways to address this issue
  10. It seems that nomad just hasn't been updating with the rest of the game. Odd.
  11. So I'm about 40 days into my latest nomad run. And have not seen the aurora once. I've been waiting for it every night, sleeping during the day. This is really disappointing to me, because typically I always bunker down and use a bug-in play style on my normal survival sandboxes. I figured nomad would give me the opportunity to explore around a little bit and find some of the new buffer memories. Why isn't the aurora present in nomad?
  12. I appreciate the fast and kind reply as always, Patrick!
  13. @Patrick Carlson any plans for the team to bring the original hinterland logo mug back to the shop? The new ones are just not the same. I'm not personally a fan. The campfire mug design is neat and fits the game, and that's something I'll definitely bring for my next camping trip! But as far as home consumption goes, it's just so small. And burns your fingers if you try to actually use it. It's really more of a novelty than anything, and if I pay 40 bucks for a coffee mug I'd like to put it to use. I sure do miss my old mug
  14. Yeah. I had the hinterland logo one. and man do I miss it so much. the person that broke it apologized and told me they'd buy me one of the new ones, to which I accepted their offer and their apology, but it's just not the same. I'm really not trying to seem upset about it because I try to be kind about this kind of thing. but I'm very upset, to tell you the truth. Let me know if you come across one for sale anywhere, I'd appreciate it. I've skimmed eBay and had no luck. I'm no longer interested in drinking out of it. I just want to put it back in my collection and never touch it again lol
  15. Okay. so recently, my original hinterland coffee mug was broken. leave it to that particular person to break the one mug in my collection that was irreplaceable lol My question is this. does anyone have one of the original mugs that you would be willing to sell? I don't mind if it's used, as long as it's in good condition and has been taken care of. I really want that mug back in my collection, I took a lot of pride in it. I guess I shouldn't have used it so much. I live in the southern United States, and am willing to pay shipping on top of your asking price. PM me if interested in selling, and thanks in advance

I'm fine. Thanks for asking. Excited for episode 3 !!! :D

  17. Man it's pretty quiet on here. haven't gotten a notification in a week. where everybody at?

  18. Man I just got  back into my survival sandbox I haven't played for a few days. found a rifle, but didn't have any ammo. two days later while I'm starving I randomly look into my "junk I can't use right now" drawer and dig out a full box of ammo I found before I got a rifle.

    I love this game xD

  19. I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!! 3 MORE DAYS!!!!!! However, I'm not seeing evidence of non-cutscene npc survivors in this trailer. but it shows plenty of combat against wildlife. let's hope they're just trying to surprise us
  20. Riding out the morning blizzard, a determined nomad prepares to set out in search of his new home... (Hey, hinterland. You have full permission to use this for screenshot Saturday on the Facebook page... just saying... hint hint )
  21. I have to get back to journal of a lone ranger. The "ben" save is still floating around ;)

He's gonna be quite surprised to find that the train tunnel is suddenly cleared:D

      Wow !!

can't wait to read it !!

Apologies for any disappointment - but I decided not to continue the story. It's been so long since I was legitimately into this game, so I decided to delete all my old saves and begin anew.

Rest assured though - if I find myself as immersed in the game as I used to be with this fresh start, I may just be starting up a new survival story for you to follow :D
