cekivi Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Hey folks. Saw this on the CBC and thought people could use a laugh. Especially if you're living in a hotter climate http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/skating-icy-manitoba-highway-1.4483621
Flannix Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 It remember me of the Ice storm from 98 My VW rabbit (1980) was covered under 15 cm of ice (thick ice) that's 6 to 7 inches
Prestermatt Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I remember that storm (if you're talking about the same one that hit the Northeast; I'm not sure where you are). I was in northern NY over the Christmas break and had to drive up to the Montreal airport. It was after the ice had cleared up, but you could see the swaths of destroyed trees lining the highway.

Power was out for almost 2 weeks in Montreal. Was nasty. My uncle almost died from an electrical pylon tower falling and crushing him from all the weight of the ice.

Most of the city was out of power for a few days, though somehow ours wasn't. It was indeed a nasty storm. I hope your uncle recovered. That sounds unpleasant.

cekivi Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 Ouch. Up where I was (Northern Ontario) we just got lots of snow that winter. The ice was all in Quebec and Southern Ontario. The pictures in the paper and on the news were something else to look at though.
Flannix Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I was in the worst part of that storm, (we were out of power for 33 days, heating food using the wood oven, and relaying each other to empty the water drain in the basement for it to not get flooded.
stratvox Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 I was in Montreal, and only lost power for a few hours (my street had underground power cables). I had a one bedroom apt (3&1/2 in Mtl parlance) and ended up hosting about eight people for just shy of a week. We drank beer and played lots of Warlords II (old DOS turn based strategy game allowing for eight players).
cekivi Posted January 19, 2018 Author Posted January 19, 2018 That sounds like fun (minus the no power everywhere else)
belthize Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 How about a good round of vehicle curling. http://newsandbusiness.rogersdigitalmedia.com.edgesuite.net/videos/13639244001/201612/2850/13639244001_5238239279001_5238231028001.mp4
cekivi Posted January 20, 2018 Author Posted January 20, 2018 Welcome to the forums @belthize Was that this year? If so I didn't realise things were that icy in Montreal!
belthize Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Thanks for the welcome @cekivi. I believe it was actually from 2016.
cekivi Posted January 22, 2018 Author Posted January 22, 2018 That make sense. The winter's been weird so far but I don't remember any ice storms. Plenty of rain in January so far though

Use to like the hot seat battles with all ai players. Turn it on before work and come home for lunch to see who's winning and at the end of the day to see who won Great stuff.
