  1. Early game post update it seems that the revolver is going to be the first available weapon unless you find the rifle early. Even making the bow early requires finding some arrows or making an early forge run. Apart from the revolver's value to scare off wolves, I find it useful for short range deer hunting and ambushing wolves and bears. You can crouch and shoot the revolver in the early game unlike the bow. I find this useful for creeping up on deer and lining up a head shot. Fishing huts and ledges allow you to lure in wolves and bears with stones so you can take short range shots - a close up bear is hard to miss. At Revolver skill 1 or 2 you're not likely to drop the animal instantly but it will bleed out. 2 of the 4 bears shot once with the revolver on a current Voyageur run died close to my base. The other two died near its cave and I was satisfied to get two more bear hides.
  2. I agree with the rope bridges in Ash Canyon - they never fail to scare me as I inch over them a few steps at a time.
  3. Thank you Stuffed Plush Chainsaw for taking the time to explain. It is puzzling the game does not crash moving from region to region on Perilous Constraint but does fail to transition from region to region post update. Mine is a 2 TB solid state HD now with 24 GB RAM. The TLD application is not killed outright - it just freezes as per the screenshot I uploaded to this thread.
  4. Thank you for explaining how to locate a Session Log. When I send the Session Log via a private message I can provide the email address I have been using to contract support. FWIW, today I added more RAM to my laptop PC, going from 12 GB to 24 GB. The Voyageur run started post update on December 8th is still failing to allow movement from region to region. However, a new run started on February 15th - essentially a very small saved game file - allowed movement from region to region after increasing RAM to 24 GB. Only yesterday it was impossible to move region to region on this brand new run. The problem post update seems to be excessive demands on memory as running Perilous Constraint via Time Capsule does not present a similar problem Attached is a screenshot of the game when it hangs up trying to move from region to region - no mouse cursor and not walking animal in bottom right corner.
  5. Thanks. I will submit a third support ticket. Hopefully this request will result in a response and not just the usual automated confirmation of receipt.
  6. hozz1235, thank you for your suggestion. I started a new Voyageur run tonight. Same as existing run - CH start, male character and same four starting skills (fire starter, cold fusion, efficient machine and book smarts). I spawned at exactly the same area along the tracks immediately adjacent to the exit to Ravine. Immediately I tried to enter Ravine with the same result - the game hangs up with an endless loading screen with no walking rabbit-deer-wolf-bear-moose in the bottom right corner of the screen. Cursor never re-appears and the Escape key does nothing. In short the exact same problem occurs immediately with a new run. This tells me my old game save file is not corrupted unless we are to believe that every new game file will be corrupted. Via Time Capsule Perilous Constraint works perfectly and is my only option now. The post update version of the game is unplayable for me. The upcoming hotfix may provide relief - submitting support tickets does not.
  7. hozz1235, that would be a good experiment. I will start another run in CH and see if I can exit the region into Ravine or Crumbling highway where I don't have a intermediary mine to traverse. If I can exit the region then the problem is my saved game. If not I will conclude its a game bug issue. FWIW, is there a way to fix a corrupted saved game file?
  8. SpanishMoss, I would appreciate any direction you can provide in finding my saved game file. Thanks.
  9. hozz1235, I appreciate the suggestions of yourself and SpanishMoss. I uninstalled and installed again today. My survivor is still trapped within the PV Farmhouse. Support tickets get me an auto response but nothing beyond that. I will wait for the hotfix later this month. Hopefully my issue will be resolved. Otherwise I will return to playing Perilous Constraint.
  10. hozz1235, I agree 12 gb should be sufficient. I have uninstalled and re-installed three times. Switching to Perilous Constraint and back to the current version itself requires re-installing the current version. I have switched back that way at least two times. Similarly the file verification process reveals no problems. I don't see a specific command for repairing - let me know if you know of such a function. One persistent difference between Perilous Constraint and the current version is that opening any container post update (glove compartment, kitchen cabinet, desk, dresser drawer, refrigetator, corpse, etc.) involves a noticeable delay before the contents are shown. Similarly, opening the backback - via the "i" key on PC - brings on a 3 second or so delay before you see the contents. The bottom line for me is that my computer has not changed but the game has.
  11. SpanishMoss, thank you for your constructive suggestions. I changed Texture Streaming as you suggested but it makes no difference. The computer I use for Steam-TLD is only used for gaming. I have all but the most essential backup applications turned off. My character is stuck inside the PV Farmhouse. My character can enter buildings but not leave them. My character can move between regions if connected by a cave - most recently moving from Winding River to Pleasant Valley - but not if connected by a loading screen like the one between PV and TWM. Like I noted the game plays fine if I revert to Perilous Constraint via Time Capsule. Next week I will boost RAM from 12 GB to 24 GB. If boosting RAM or the upcoming hotfix does not help I will conclude that the post update is simply unplayable for me.
  12. hozz1235, I am glad you had a good laugh. Its 12 gigabytes of RAM.
  13. SpanishMoss, yes it is 12 gigabytes of RAM (8 and 4 now). I am planning to increase RAM to 24 this coming week by switching out a 4 with a 16. I have my graphic settings on low already but I will try increasing the amount of memory the game is allocated by looking for that option in the quality section. Thank you for your suggestions.
  14. SpanishMoss, memory issue sounds about right. I am using a PC with 12 megabytes of RAM running Windows 11, Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce 350, 1.6 TB free space on C drive. I have nothing else running while TLD is running. FWIW, out of frustration I run the game via Time Capsule on Perilous Constraint. Absolutely no problems are encountered. Switch back to the post update current version of the game and I cannot travel between regions or even exit buildings. Same computer different results - perhaps the post update current version is demanding a lot more memory.
  15. Will the upcoming February 2023 hotfix remedy the endless loading screen bug encountered when trying move region to region when those regions are not connected via caves?
  16. hozz1235, I have been thoroughly exploring Blackrock on a saved pre-update Pilgrim run. That region is thick with TW's. Bleak Inlet in comparison is like a walk in the park. When I set foot in this region with my Voyageur character I will limit my goals to retrieving the noise makers in the mine by following the riverbed from Cook's Farm to the two ropes - unlocking the noise maker recipe. The western end of the region from Creek Bed Cave to the Power Plant seems less troubled by TWs except for the area of the Old Substation and Great Meadow. I am debating if I really care about the Ballistic Vest.
  17. This planned Hotfix when it occurs will hopefully remedy the infinite loading screen problem I have been encountering since the update.
  18. Thanks for that suggestion. I can submit another ticket (the third). Regarding a session log, what is a Session log and how do I produce one? FWIW, I abandoned my post update run and I have returned to playing Perilous Constraint via Time Capsule. My saved pre-update Voyageur run is running fine without the game locking up moving between regions or trying to exit buildings. This lack of problems running Perilous Constraint points to my computer not being the problem.
  19. Thank you hozz1235 for that suggestion. Sniping TW's worked well for me in BI on the way to the radio tower. A question about marine flares. I have 8 handy if I head into BR from TWM. However, I have an inventory of 95 regular red flares. Are the red flares any less effective in fending off TW's? Do marine flares have a special functionality as a means of walking through groups of TW's? My inclination is to make a fire and stand behind it while shooting arrows at TW's. That practice scarcely ever was an option in BI due to the ceaseless wind. I am wondering if BR is less windy. Lots of questions here, any suggestions would be appreciate.
  20. TonyInPleasantValley, all told you did well coming through those wolf and bear fights alive. Your experiences make a Bleak Inlet cannery run sound like a walk in the park. BR is the last region I need to loot/explore on my Perilous Constraint (Time Capsule) Voyageur run. Apart from some short forays in BR via Keepers Pass and the TWM cave system, I have not plunged into this zone. I wonder if it is worth the bother when I have resources for thousands of days on hand at PV Farmhouse and TWM Mountaineers Hut. The only real attraction would be the recipe for the noise maker.
  21. Today I restarted my 2500 +/- day Voyageur run on Perilous Constraint using Time Capsule in Steam. My character was at TWM's Mountaineer's Hut when I stopped playing on November 13th prior to the update. This run should qualify as ultra long. I have looted all regions except for Blackrock. All skills are at level 5 - 1000 day old meat is always on the menu' Shadox reasonably asked "How do you entertain yourself on ultralong Survivors?" I entertain myself by squirreling away resources with the goal of surviving for 10,000 or more days. For the last 1000 days I focused on concentrating resources including tools, cloth, leather, metal, medicinals, fuel, quality clothes, saplings, ammunition, whetstones, gun cleaning kits, legacy food, arrow shafts and arrowheads at three bases - CH Fishing Cabins, PV Farmhouse and TWM Mountaineers Hut. All three bases are easy areas to kill bears and have immediately adjacent fishing huts or one nearby (Pensive Pond). My character can live on just bear meat with occasional fishing to replenish lamp oil. Concentrating resources at these bases means I don't need to return to HRV, MT, ML, DP, BRR , FM or BI. 28 arrows with 346 arrow shaft in reserve will allow for a lot of bear killing. Relying on animal clothing conserves cloth and leather. Tracking down every available bit of cloth, leather, metal, rifle/revolver rounds and harvesting every last sapling can be entertaining.
  22. I uninstalled TLD today and re-installed as suggested by hozz1235. Game seemed to be a bit more responsive for a while but returned to its old problems after a few hours. At this point even exiting buildings is causing the game to lock up. Entering a cave, car or building does not cause a game lockup. Instead it happens when trying to exit a building or trying to move Region to Region where a loading screen is required. When it happens a loading screen appears without the walking rabbit-deer-wolf-bear-moose in the bottom right of the screen. The loading screen will display one of the stock helpful comments in the bottom left but will never advance beyond that point. The mouse cursor never re-appears. FWIW, this issue never happened pre-update. I am using the same HP laptop with a 2 terrabyte solid state HD Intel Core i5 NVIDIA running Windows 10 purchased new in July 2022. I will leave my character for now trapped inside the Mystery Lake Camp Office. As it stands now the game is unplayable. If I play at all it will be using my saved 2500 day Voyageur run using the Time Capsule.
  23. Mountaineers Hut on the shore of Crystal Lake. The lack of the loading screen, door peephole and roof hole make this a cozy location to watch wolves and the bear, as well as blizzards and aurora displays....all in safety.
  24. +33C - Rabbit hat, balclava, bear coat, expedition parka, double cowichan sweater, snow pants, combat pants, double red longjohns, double climbing sock and insulated boots. If I use one of my two ear wrap I can push the bonus to +34C provided everything is close to 100% condition.
  25. I thoroughly explored Ash Canyon on my long pre-update Voyageur run. A first trip was for the technical backpack and crampons. Once achieved I moved back to other regions to continuing exploring with these two unique loot items in hand. What struck me about the western end of the map from Deer Clearing Cave to Gold Mine was the absence of wolves and bears. The only real difficulty was the weather and rope climbs - Moose was not present on that trek. Later I came back to Ash Canyon with the goal of finding every possible birch sapling, rifle round and revolver round as part of a plan to stretch my Voyageur run to 5,000 days. The published on line map was invaluable. I was impressed by the complications posed by altitude changes. All told I thought the loot was worth the exploration but the region never felt cozy unlike my bases in ML, CH, PV and TWM.
