  1. “Don't ask for guarantees. And don't look to be saved in any one thing, person, machine, or library. Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were heading for shore.”

  2. This can be a screenshot challenge or just to play your own story, but the idea is to gather all the books (and newspapers if you've a mind to) on Great Bear to some appropriate location for safe keeping.  I started a Voyager guy in Pleasant Valley and thought the Farmhouse would make a good library.  The first book I found was 'A Sewing Primer' at the Rural Store.

Man, I thought Voyager temps were pretty forgiving, but it's really cold here.  Oh, burning books is forbidden, no matter how desperate you are for warmth.

Choose whatever difficulty you like and wherever you think would make a good library.  Choose the Farmhouse, or maybe there are better places.  I don't think I've ever used it as a main base for the whole island before, so for me it should be interesting.  Some locations will be more challenging than others, and it's bound to take a while, so feel free to post partial completion shots, stories, or anything else from your old school archivist adventures.

What is the library ? Is this a community challenge ? You need to collect all the books and paper you find ?

Yup.  Thought of it at seeing piddy3825's cozy livingroom at the top of this page.   Probably going to be pretty time consuming, and given that the Darkwalker will be here in about a week to kill us all,  it sounds like a nice screenshot goal for this winter.  🙂:coffee:

Given the trail, this unfortunate person seems to have had a nice straw bed, but then had to hide in here from something or someone.
Too cold to wait it out without bedding.   A new chocolate bar turned out to be my breakfast instead.  Thanks, stranger.

That actually sounds like it could be an entertaining quest.  Just curious, but where would you suggest the Library be located?

Hmmmm.   Well, since books can't be stacked in the usual way on shelves, flat space is the key.   Quonset yeah, Milton House has lots, PV Farmhouse (has the basement),  PV Town Hall maybe.   It's probably going to be a ton of books, so I'd be surprised if they all fit in one room.

As I listening to the increasing frenzy of the blowing wind whistling thru the old house,
I'm thankful the old owner never threw away all those old Encyclopedia Britanica's...

Looks nice.  I wonder if anyone has done a library challenge.  No crazy aurora computer files.  Just gathering every book on the island in one place.  And of course, plenty of coffee and tea.

Another tip... Use your tackle to sew until the condition drops to less than 10% and after that use only to fish. There is no difference between tackles with 100% or less to fish.

Dang!  That’s some mighty fine lightweight maximizing for ya.  Here’s to the humble fishing tackle 😁🍻😀

  8. I like Whiteout quite a bit.  It's cool to see the storm prediction calendar in the Journal, and the difficulty does seem to build toward the end.  As I said in another thread, "You think you're doing fine until the last week".  We've often heard of what fun the Quonset Garage wolves can be, and Whiteout has em.  I think playing that was my first time getting in multiple wolf struggles while so close to the safety of a shelter.

There's also opportunity to strategize a bit..  Plunder the Townsite right away and leave the region later on if needed?.. or head out to Mystery Lake or Pleasant Valley in the hopes of big loot before the storms start to roll in more frequently...

  9. Your toil for the progress of fishing science is admirable.  🙂 Were you using the outer fishing hut?  I’ve been wondering if closer to the sea means more cohos.  Seems like the hut in CH closest to the sea gets more cohos, but I’m probably imagining things.  Again. 🙃

  10. This might be an odd one for you, being a vehicles game, but Spintires: The Original Game has some of what you listed.   The play areas are pretty good sized with uncloaking zones you have to travel to in order to reveal the overall scene on your map.  And they don't make it easy to get anywhere.  Mud, fallen trees, water, bogs, the lot..

The objectives are straight forward (get logs from one place to another),  but also not easily done.  The physics of heavy loads on tough terrain is there... but so are winches 😀 (life savers).  The other nice thing is that you can quit anywhere and it will set you right back into the mud where you left off the next time you start the game.

  11. Just for comparison, I'll mention the maps in TheHunter: Call of the Wild, which are huge and look pretty good, but where you can stroll through underbrush, fallen trees and branches at will; to the point where it also kind of kills the feeling of being out in the woods sometimes.  For hunting, that stuff will blocks sight lines, so it's not all useless visuals, but it has no substance and can break emersion when moving through it.

That said, I would welcome OP's suggestion for 'small jump' or 'vault' or 'step up' or 'climb' or whatever it would be called.   My weirdo mind tends to make up little stories to explain away some of the snags (there's a nasty old nail sticking out of that), so I'm not necessarily all that bothered by them (I want it to be a struggle to navigate the island), but the suggested change makes sense all the same.  The snags could still be there, but if you have the travel experience, you'll know just when to hit the key.
