  1. Was thinking about new regions that could be added to the game and this one came across my mind. A region that is set in mainland Canada. This region would be south of Great Bear, but this raises the question of how do you get there? You would first need to find a blueprint for a boat, which would spawn in one of the coastal regions. Once you find the blueprint, you would need to go to desolation point. From their you can start to build the boat. I’m thinking this is gonna be quite expensive material-wise, so how about 150 cedar/fir logs, 75 scrap wood, a quality tool box (would need to be 99% and would be entirely consumed), and finally 30 scrap metal. The boat would be built in 3 stages. Each stage would use one-third of the required materials and would take about 8 hours per stage. Once the boat is completed, you must put 4000 calories of food and 10 gallons/37 liters of drink in a chest. You can then travel to the mainland, but your trip will depend on weather conditions. If it’s foggy or snowy outside, then the trip will take longer. When you arrive in the mainland, you will spawn on a dock next to a lush forest. You must navigate the forest to get to the top of a scenic hill. Their you can see a town off in the distance. I haven’t thought of everything yet but their should be some pretty good loot there. Let me know what you think of this idea.
  2. The problem is I play on console, so mods are unavailable for me. A throwing spear would be pretty cool as a more primitive weapon.
  3. I meant just cosmetically change the appearance. Wouldn’t affect how the rifle works just changes how it looks.
  4. Different variants of rifles. Wouldn’t affect the stats of the weapon, just change the appearance. I’m thinking of the version we have, and a more modern, tactical version. I’m pretty sure I saw a video where people out in remote Alaska talk about how they get their guns delivered, so modern firearms in Great Bear could be a possibility.
  5. Could be a side mission like the ones in crossroads elegy
  6. From a realistic view I’m not sure wolves would go aggressive from the aurora. Now of course this game is fictional and Hinterland can do what they want with the story, but most geomagnetic storms don’t cause those kinds of animals to act out. It mostly causes whales to beach themselves and birds have their magnetoreception (an ability that allows animals to sense the magnetic field to orient themselves, I.e. homing pigeons use it to find their homes) messed with.
  7. Now I know that some of my ideas can be far-fetched, but I have been thinking about this idea for a while now. A crossbow that is a mix between the hunting rifle and the bow. The crossbow can only be found in a select few regions, mostly urban places like desolation point, Milton, and bleak inlet. The crossbow would be modern, which is likely to bring up some concerns because modern items couldn’t get to Great Bear easily because of its remote location and the collapse, but do you think medieval crossbows are going to be in Great Bear either? The ammunition for the crossbow would be broad heads, and you will most likely find one with the crossbow. Broad heads don’t go as fast or far as a normal bow arrow, but when it hits an animal, it will cause the animal to bleed out faster and make bigger blood spots, which will make for easier tracking. You could argue that it’s already easy tracking an animal, but sometimes I will be following a blood trail and it will suddenly disappear or pick up somewhere else, or that might just be me. The bolts do have higher base damage than the rifle though. The crossbow has a very slow reload speed, which means that it should only be used as a hunting weapon and not for self defense. The iron sight is small, which makes aiming harder than firearms and when you count ballistics, landing a hit is a hard task. Since the crossbow has some similar mechanisms as a gun, a cleaning kit could be used to give back condition, but not nearly as much as cleaning the rifle. It can also be repaired at the milling station. Maintaining the bolts on the other hand is much harder. You can use a whetstone to sharpen them, but not much condition is given. If you take them to a forge however, you can repair them much easier. You will need a hammer and some scrap metal though. When scrapped, it will give 3 scrap metal and 1 cured leather. Your probably thinking right now “I wouldn’t pick that up at all, it has so many cons” but when you think about it, every weapon has its trade-offs. With the bow, you can make arrows easily and craft the bow itself, but it’s one shot at a time, aiming is difficult, and the arrows can break. The rifle is good for hunting and it’s ammo can be made, but it’s much harder to make and the rifle takes time to chamber rounds and must be properly maintained, which could mean the difference between life and death. The revolver has a good fire rate and is a great defense weapon, but good luck trying to stop a charging moose. So what is the purpose of the crossbow? Well since it does more damage than a rifle and bow, it is good at stopping bigger animals like bears and moose. This is a real game changer in my opinion because it can take multiple shots to stop a charging animal, but the crossbow has enough stopping power to make that bear running at you second guess itself. Tell me what you think about this as an addition to the game.
  8. I had an idea that may sound a little crazy, but here it goes. When you get to revolver skill level 5, the ability to rapid fire a revolver becomes an option. If you don’t know what rapid firing is, it’s what the gunslingers do in old westerns where they continuously pull back the hammer and fire, firing all the rounds very fast. In order to rapid fire, you must have all 6 rounds in your revolver, it must be above 50% condition, and you must be still. When you rapid fire, you inaccurately fire all rounds which takes a good bit of durability away from your gun. If your firearm is below 50% condition, then their is a chance that the hammer will jam mid-way through firing, therefore not letting you fire all 6 bullets. The lower the condition, the higher the chance. Rapid firing would be used as a last resort effort to scatter a pack of timberwolves that was cornering you, but like I stated, it is VERY inaccurate, so hits aren’t guaranteed. This is a pretty crazy idea so tell me what you think about it.
  9. I can’t remember exactly, but I’m pretty sure that Raph stayed that it would be to hard to add binoculars or scopes in one of the Milton mailbags. I also agree with romoboy about the wielding tools. Older guns like that don’t have places to attach the scope, and given the aurora situation, wielders probably won’t work.
  10. Survival mode most likely You do have a point about the devs having a lot on their hands right now though. Their was a fair bit of side missions during the crossroads elegy episode and as you said that’s probably their main focus.

    Canada Day

I had the idea about a year ago for sparklers that could be used as a light source. Their was some other ideas by different users like O’ Canada playing over the radios in an aurora. I like the idea of fireworks though.
  12. Random encounters would be scenarios that you could come across randomly in the world. Some could only be activated in certain conditions (Aurora, nighttime, blizzard, etc). I had a couple of ideas that I will list below. Injured deer-the player finds a deer lying on the ground in pain. If you help it by patching up its wounds with a sewing kit and a bandage, it will walk away. If you choose not to help it, a wolf will eventually come and kill it. scared wolf-A wolf is cornered by a couple bears. If you kill the bears, the wolf will howl and then run back to its pack. It will remember you saved it and not attack you (unless their is an aurora). If you don’t help it, The bears will kill it and bring it back to their cave. E-mails-if you are near a active computer during an aurora, you can sometimes hear a pop-up message sound come from it. If you interact with it, you will see their is an email from a random person. The content can vary from encounter to encounter. If you leave it, you won’t get anymore messages, but if you answer it they will respond. thoughts?
  13. Now I don’t want this game to become a shooter at all, but I just feel that maybe if you could make some changes to a weapon to change it’s statistics, then it would allow for some diverse gameplay. Weapon modifications could be rare items that spawn around Great Bear in random locations. I only have ideas for the rifle right now, as I don’t know what you could use to modify a hand-crafted bow. One example is a special type of ammo for the rifle that increases damage towards animals, at the cost of more durability spent per shot, or a kit that when crafted with the rifle in the milling machine, could give the rifle a better stock that would extend the aiming timer, at the cost of some accuracy. It could even be little things, like iron sights that glow in the dark to help you aim better at night like the picture below. You can even customize your weapon by using different things like smearing rose hip berries on the stock, making engravings with a hunting knife, different sight designs, etc. Thoughts?
  14. I like this idea but I would make a few changes. Change it to where you have to work for the ending. For example, have the objective be gathering a bunch of materials to make a boat and escape, or perhaps their could be a random, but guaranteed spawn of a piece of paper that tells you how to fix the radio at a location with a radio (signal hill, Carter Dam, etc.) Then you would have to travel Great Bear finding replacement parts and then repairing the radio and waiting for the aurora to come back. Of course you can turn off this feature before getting into a new run if you like endless survival. It would be a great idea to have something else to work towards other than death.
  15. You can even hear stuff bouncing around and water sloshing around as if it were on their back.
  16. I mean, you could probably forge throwing hatchets, but they would be a lot less powerful than manufactured ones just to balance it out. I was also thinking that throwing hatchets should be in interloper anyway to help those players out.
  17. The only problem with knifes is that they aren’t as heavy-hitting as the hatchets, making them not do as much damage against animals. I also didn’t want hatchets to be something you can make in a forge, because as I stated, I don’t want players to go around throwing hatchets all Willy-nilly.
  18. We currently only have one throwable weapon in the game, and it’s primary use is to stun rabbits and be a distraction. I had an idea to expand the throwable weapons category. Throwing hatchets could be found in tool chests, trunks, cabinets, etc. Each hatchet would be 1.5 pounds or 24 ounces. They could come together in packs of 1 or 2 with 1 being the most common. When throwing a hatchet, you first have to wind up to get more power. The longer you wind up, the more power you have, therefore more distance the hatchet covers. I have made a list of what happens when the hatchet hits different animals, these are... Rabbits-immediately dies Wolves-if a wolf is hit, it will flee, but it does not cause them to die. It can not be used in a struggle, as that’s what a regular hatchet is for. If hit 4 times, it will die. Timberwolves-same effect as regular wolves, but it depletes the morale meter. Deer-will cause a bleed-out time for 100 minutes when hit. Hitting them 6 times will kill them, Bears-if hit, it will cause them to chase after the player, but do little to nothing. If they are charging and are hit in the face, they will flee, but only the face, or else they will continue charging. Moose-does not affect them at all. After an animal is hit with a throwing hatchet, their is a small chance that it could fall out of the animal’s body and be harvested off the ground. If the animal is killed by the hatchet or another source, it can be harvested off the body like arrows. The hatchet loses 3% durability after hitting an animal, but could lose up to 4% if it hits the ground before the animal dies. Their spawn would be fairly uncommon however as if the player had to many, their could go around being like a Viking raiding a village, throwing a hatchet at everything their see. Throwing hatchets could have durability replenished using a whetstone. The throwing hatchets could only be used for throwing, and not for anything else like cutting wood, struggles, harvesting, etc. They would have their own skill set that when leveled up would increase the distance a hatchet could be thrown and make aiming easier. Thoughts?
  19. Well it depends on the toilet. Home toilets have clean water in the top compartment, while work toilets that don’t have a top part would need to be treated.
  20. I like your ideas about the different ammo types and only in a certain location.
  21. This is the roughly what the rifle would look like. Modern design and synthetic materials
  22. So I had another idea about the rifles in the game. Their could be different variations of the rifle, what I mean by this is that their could be two kinds of rifles. Theirs the one we have now, and their could be a tactical version. The tactical version is made out of synthetic materials which’s makes it weighs less, gives it a longer aiming time, takes less time to reload and chamber rounds, but at the cost of higher durability loss per shot, a smaller magazine, and takes longer to be repaired at the milling machine, and requires more materials. You could also do this with the bow, where you have a modern version that is better than the old one in some areas, but worse in others. What do you think?
  23. In the game, one of the best kinds of wood is a fire log, which is a log filled with chemicals, and a good source of heat. I think it would be a cool addition to be able to make you own. This would be done by gathering sticks for the wood, and then grabbing chemicals, like fertilizer. Then you would go to a workbench and craft a fresh fire log, but you can’t use it yet. You have to wait for the chemicals to dry, sort of like how guts need to cure before being used for crafting. The same rules apply to the fresh fire logs. Just a quick idea I had.
  24. I mean, it might work if you do a split-screen co-op on the same monitor or TV screen. Another survival game called “Stranded Deep” did this and I think it would be a pretty cool idea
