  1. Navigating an unfamiliar map? Here are a few "natural" things I've notices: 1) Reishi mushrooms generally grow on the south side of cut logs. (Oops - Edit: Wouldn't you know it... Just after I decided this was sound enough to post, I find a group of Reishi's on the north side of a cut log... so, scratch this one.) 2) Rose Hip Bushes frequently mark climbable rocks. 3) Old Man's Beard Lichen frequently grows near the entrances to caves or along paths that will lead you to them. 4) Not absolutely certain yet; but I think the tallest cat tail head is always south of the other one on the plant. 5) This last one is more of an exploit (IMO) rather than being a natural form of navigation and it has been mentioned before; but I'll put it here for completeness: Items dropped by the player with always orient themselves in the same direction (e.g. torch heads and knife points will always point east).
  2. Thanks for the heads up. I'll consider doing the cloak instead.
  3. I already have made a moose hide satchel, but now have a second cured moose hide. Before taking the time and other resources (sewing kit) to make a second satchel, I'd really like to know if I can wear two of them at the same time and whether or not the second gives another increase to my carry weight. Please and thank you.
  4. Cross country skiing trip in Banff National Park. I wasn't the best prepared person in my group being more of a downhill skier at the time and used to having a lodge to warm up in when things turned cold. I also wasn't the most skilled person on "skinny skis." The trail about about 10 miles long and my friends set a rather blistering pace. To make things more interesting, I also kept noticing cougar tracks criss-crossing the trail we were on... so I wasn't about to get left behind. However, about 7 miles into the trek, my exhaustion, wet clothing (from sweat) and the cold got the better of me and I collapsed with clear signs of hypothermia developing. I owe my life to one of my friends who did got me sheltered and started warming me up and then literally carried me out the last 3 miles of the trip where he could get me properly warmed up. He was prepared to drive me to the hospital in Banff at that point, but due to his quick actions earlier, it wasn't necessary.
  5. Sorry. Since I've never played the game before the Redux update, I had no idea that the objects behaved any differently. If it is a change, then It's one that I like. If it's a bug, then it's one that I would say they maybe shouldn't worry about fixing unless items are actually going missing (i.e. dissappearing right under the snow layer).
  6. I don't find this odd at all. Snow can be of different depths and of different densities. It may or may not have a windblown crust on the top. Items dropped into snow can sink into and land at odd angles or they can sit on top... just like your footprints IRL in snow can be shallow if you're walking on solid packed snow or you can sink to your knees if walking on loose, new fallen snow. Sometimes your weight will be supported by wind packed crusty snow and other times you'll break through the supporting crust.
  7. Sorry, no can do now - just died... again... in the Forlorn Muskeg. Back to square 1. I did make it to 50 days this time though.
  8. How long do ruined items placed in containers take to fully vanish from the world? It seems to me I placed a ruined sewing kit in a trash can at Paradise Meadows Farm and it was still there when I went to place more items in the container a little while later (and was still using up space in that container). I'm no longer in that zone, so I can't check right now. My expectation was that it would still be there whenever I returned to that location, along with all the other items I placed in the various containers in that house (e.g. spare clothes in the bedroom drawers and such)... I'm a little worried now about losing all that stuff.
  9. I would love a means to refill the jerry cans from the smaller lantern fuel containers; however, as long as that option is unavailable I prefer to have them just disappear from the inventory. Ditto applies to the lantern fuel containers. I would also like to see other ruined items (like the sewing kits, rifle cleaning kits, whetstones, cans, etc.) have some sort of means of refilling or truly recycling them or else have them also completely vanish from the inventory. At least used torches can be burned so they don't wind up just as litter on a cabin floor somewhere.
  10. Being a compulsive collector/looter, this has been happening to me a lot.
