This probably is true. At least I know no "no-loading-screen" location that violates this rule as long as you take into account that not being able to place a fire on wooden surfaces is a different reason altogether.

I did that a while ago. But I found that unless you are willing to hibernate you'll have a heck of a time getting enough firewood and food long term.

I know I keep repeating this, and I am fully aware that at this point I am probably annoying the living snot out of people, but this entire discussion serves as a perfect example why Cabin Fever is a bloody mess and why it simply shouldn't be in the game. It is

    - badly communicated
    - requires unintuitive gameplay to avoid
    - serves no (longer a) tangible purpose

    Very true.

Sorry for asking on here but how do you switch it to weight on Xbox. Nothing I press seems to work?

After you've entered the inventory (i.e. you have an item in the inventory highlighted, not just a tab - by depressing A), you can then depress the LS to change the sort.

No his map is called Blackrock and he is the god of maps or do you know any better than these ones? : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1901570789

He only proposed to call it BRM in said thread and because I have the utmost respect for his work and his argument makes the most sense to me, I decided to use BRM as well. Of course calling his word gospel was ment as a joke but I guess that got lost in transmission - really no need to take this so serious, I certainly don't ;)

Perhaps one reason why your statement about Santana flew over my head was because I'm not a PC player and I'm not on Steam and, as such, I've never seen his map.  I've repeatedly said this is "not worth" an argument, so where are you getting the impression that I'm taking this too seriously.  I do object when people pull "official" BS on things that are, by no means, official.  Th e confusion and the issue will subside... just as it has between CH and CH (Coastal Highway and Crumbling Highway... which I believe is "officially" mapped as something like "Inter-Island Connector" (IIRC.. and no, I'm not going to run across the map to check that one out either).

Cheers... I am going to take another long vacation from this website.  Bye.

As long as there is a consensus in this community, it doesn't really matter.  I'm good with BRM.

Then, by all means, use it.  I'm going to write the names out in full... are you going to tell me I'm "wrong" in doing that?  Of course not.  I have no idea why this has become such a hot topic.  On the other thread where this came up, what I was objecting to was the statement that the region was officially named "Blackrock Mountain. and the corresponding one that Santana was the "god of maps" (implying that it should be BRM just because he named his map "Blackrock Mountain"). I was also initially concerned that Hinterland may have been inconsistent within the game in labeling the maps.  On that note, I'm happy to report that, so far, as I've rechecked, Keeper's Pass IS consistently labeled "Keeper's Pass (North/South) and I was the one in error for thinking it was labeled Keeper's Path in some places.

Not sure that that applies to just newcomers ! Every one seems to have a different opinion!

We could ask admin to vote for their favourite ?😁 After all its their baby ( so to speak).

I have a question - If we vote on it, who is going to convince Hinterland to put up an "official" list of acceptable acronyms for this website and what is going to be the "punishment" for not using the "right" one?  I vote that we don't vote and just accept that people will use whatever acronym they want... or not.  If someone is confused, they can, if they wish, ask the poster to clarify their post... nicely, of course.

If most of the acronyms don't have the R for region, why not just label Blackrock as simply "B". Or is that too simple?

Sure, if you want to use it as your acronym for it, there is nothing that prevents it.  Whether or not it will be clear to others what you mean is the other question entirely.  Acronyms for Coastal Highway and  Crumbling Highway can also be confused, but it doesn't seem to be a concern now.  I'm not even sure how people here most commonly differentiate between the two.  Writing the words out in full is still probably the safest bet for clarity.  If it means I'm not an "insider" or marks my advanced years, so be it.

  7. 1) Antibiotics are never useless.  I haven't had it happen to me for a long time; but this morning my antiseptic didn't actually work after being bitten by a wolf.  My mistake that I failed to notice that lousy RNG roll, and went to sleep for a thankfully short time.  I woke up very low on health with an infection.  Thank the stars I had some antibiotics on me to stop/slow the drain on my health to survive the following 8 hours for the condition to clear.

    2) I do like your idea though about adding in an ability to make canned foods that would eliminate the stink of carrying around cuts of cooked meat.  This could instead, perhaps, be at the expense of calories... say, the canned product only contains 50% of the calories than an equivalent weight of cooked meat does.

I have seen countless posts where someone is remarking on how hot/cold it is.  Thanks for your feedback.

This also applies to the thread I've recently seen commenting on anorexia in rabbits.  Why not both kg and lbs.  Still, it's a fair point that displaying using both systems in all languages/versions of the game is going to make for a lot of text.  I think it's more prudent to put the onus on the reader to note the system being shown and make the necessary conversions (either in their head or using one of the many conversion apps widely available).

    We call that BRR.

Again, that's not universal.  On this site, the most common acronym for Broken Railroad has historically been BR, not BRR.  If using BRR for Broken Railroad Region, then Timberwolf Mountain Region should be TMR, not TWM (which is the most common acronym for it used on this site).  People can, of course, use whatever acronyms they want.  Nothing about them is "official" and what your Facebook Group agrees upon applies only there.  Again, just be aware that using BRM or BP may not be clear to some since the game doesn't label the maps in that manner and using BR creates confusion with Broken Railroad.  In my IRL life, BRM stands for either Business Resource Management or the British Royal Marine.  It's also a common abbreviation for "bedroom" on architectural plans.

On a side note, I also think Hinterland may have some labeling discrepancies in regards to The Keeper's Pass/Path, but I have to get back into that zone so I can check the maps.  I thought the zone map reads "The Keeper's Path" but upon leaving, I noticed that the game said I was "Leaving Keeper's Pass" or "Leaving The Keeper's Pass."  Since I wasn't paying specific attention to that detail, I will have to get back that way to confirm it exactly.

This was a hot topic of discussion in our Facebook group. We settled on BRM.

However, Blackrock Mountain is still not the official name of the zone.  The ingame maps all indicate the name as only "Blackrock" and only "Blackrock Region" displates when you enter and leave the zone.  Blackrock Mountain is merely a feature within the zone, just the same as Blackrock Penitentiary.  As a result, be aware that the use of BRM as an acronym will not necessarily be immediately clear to everyone.  There will still be some confusion also between BR standing for Broken Railroad and it standing for Blackrock Region.  Regarrdless, my preference is going to be to type the names out in full just for absolute clarity.  Conversely, Timberwolf Mountain Region does show the word "Mountain" as part of the region's official name on the in-game maps.  Hinterland, if they think it worth it, could clear up this issue by adding the word "Mountain" to the labeling of the region in game... however, I do think they have other higher priority issues.

That seems a heavy amount of meat for a rabbit! Surely they aren't that big! And yes it does look a bit on the lean side!

The rabbits I catch often weigh in between 1.1 and 1.4 kg.  I have killed rabbits as small as 0.6 kg (1.3 lbs).  If I scare a wolf off his kill or kill a wolf while he's eating, I have picked up rabbits as small as 0.2 kg (since the wolf had already eaten some of it)

This one is 1.1 lbs. (about 0.5 kg).  Not sure if the OP killed this one himself or whether a wolf got to it first.  He doesn't say. 😀

The game was a lot harder back in early access, when the sandbox was mainly for testing mechanics rather than a game in its own right. I'd like to challenge all the hardcore Interlopers to boot up Vigilant Trespass through the Time Capsule and give Interloper a shot there.

It's kind of inevitable... the smaller the world, the more limited the basic resources are in that world.  Since Interloper (well the whole game, actually) is based on surviving with minimal resources,  anything added (except new, high-powered predators) just makes survival easier.  Adding high-powered predators to the beginner areas would be too brutal on people unfamiliar with the game and adding them to the new areas just makes them avoidable by avoiding the area altogether.  Since it is already possible to survive indefinitely on Interloper and almost indefinitely on higher custom difficulties (like NOGOA), there really isn't anything that HL can add in the way of "swag" that would be essential to long-term survival.  Any of it would just make the game easier anyways... but without it, it seems that players will just avoid going into the new areas where the more difficult predators are located.  It's a catch 22 for HL.

For now, I get around it by limiting myself to single-zone custom runs since I have no interest in dragging a filesave out over thousands of days (boring).  I'd rather start fresh with essentially nothing more frequently.

  13. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game that gets this one right.  I'd like it as well, but I don't think it can be done at this point without HL basically redoing the entire game's structure from scratch.

I know it's not how things work in the real life, but that's not the point. If you can retry starting a fire over and over again, then what's the point of using a better fuel or accelerant?

As to the interloper players... It's the hardest difficulty setting, so never having enough matches is a major part of interloper experience.

The point of using the better fuels is to get a higher temperature to override the cold (which is not applicable on pilgrim and voyager, but is applicable on stalker and interloper).  Why I use accelerants right now is because, when I have them in my inventory, they start the fire quicker and give me, at Level 3, a 100% chance of success.  Lighting the torch first takes more time unless I'm already carrying a lit torch for walking in the cold.  Finding accelerants is rare and I like to keep lantern fuel to use in my lantern (if I'm fortunate enough to have found one).

In order to start a run at Firestarting 3 (because I hate managing tinder and I like starting with a decent chance of success for starting my fires), I forfeit another feat, leaving me with only one other feat to use in interloper.  It's a significant sacrifice to get that little "perk" that I earned by playing the game.  Running out of matches later in the run is not a concern for me... but preserving the few matches I have at the start of run when I my clothing is entirely inadequate and I find that I have to start a lot of fires just to stay warm is a concern.

    Hi Survivor :)
In my opinion, Keeper's Pass South transition is a very nice place to stay - even playing at the Interloper late game level. You have a crafting table in the trailer. There is a fisherman's hut on the river (reduced cabin fever 😀). There are also animals (wolves and rabbits). There aren't many birch samplings, but you can live your life until you run out of cloth to repair your clothes (and of course the matches - but you probably have a magnifying lens so you can feel safe ). That is my humble opinion. I greet you warmly 👍

Forester's Hideout (Keeper's Path North) is also an option for taking a night out to reduce cabin fever risk and it comes with its own bed in addition to a 2-burner stove.  The only downside is that it is a bit of a walk from the trailer, but I didn't see any predators.
