@kristaok - nothing personal. but to you $7.50 USD (the current sale price on Steam) may seem like nothing. But for some people in 2nd or 3rd World countries, where a 12 hour day of physical labor may pay them the equivalent of $5 USD, that $7.50 USD is a TON of money

7$ is not a big deal if you live in a country that, despite having 'low' wages, still offers you the possibility to own a game/console, an internet connection, and English lessons.

Plus, having lived in Vietnam for years, which I think qualifies as 'developing' country, I can assure you this is not 7$ there in steam, it's actually lower than 3$ = 100000VND, which roughly the price for a daily moto-taxi ride to work. At such a price there's nowhere in the world where pirating the game is justified by low income. Such low income would prevent you having a PC/console and internet connection.

Quick point -- It is not my intention to make people wait until WINTERMUTE is finished before official mod support is implemented

I would nevertheless respect such a decision,  out of respect for those backers that made the very existence of this game a possibility with Wintermute in mind. I'm playing this wonderful game thank to them as much as Hinterland Studio (upon purchase I didn't knew wintermute existed), so I -as a sandbox player- wouldn't dare asking to be served first. Since I have absolutely no idea about the amount of work to be put behind such or such feature/project, I'll just happily take what comes to me :D

We live in a society where complex thoughts are simplified to soundbites and it's not possible to disagree with someone without also hating them

I couldn't agree more, strangely enough the human species is every year more educated and less smart. My feeling is that it's inherent to the internet revolution and its anonymity that removes the care about consequences of our actions. Our brains are not made to feel respect or empathy towards some pseudonym or avatar pixels, that are only representation of a human (oftentimes), but not the real thing. Another thing is, today, it's become trendy to be considered a victim. All forms of extremism are growing, because stupid ideas are often simple to understand.

That being said, I've always kept playing the 'vanilla' TLD despite what I see as gameplay flaws, out of respect for the work that has been put into it. I'm around 1000h played, and I see how this unintentional 'drop' of mods will limit the amount of time I spend in TLD.

I've spent some time to find how to 'fix' what I consider the sleep-heal flaw within the allowed frame (Custom Settings). I will continue playing sleepwalking mode. I will certainly play some easy-birch deadman mode. I will still be mad when I spend a match misclicking a torch, I will still be mad that I can't put a fire on a slope to quarter a kill, I will still be mad to get the firestriker  and reclaimed as default firestarting items when I'm loaded with sticks and a lit torch in hand. I will still be mad I don't have a bushcraft possibility for firestarting. I will still be mad I can't sleep on any flat ground. I will still be mad that many places that naturally have rabbits hopping by don't trigger the snares...

But then? When in 100h or 1000h more of TLD play, I'm fed up with these 'flaws' (it's just my opinion) that I have no hope to see fixed since they are not bugs? The last resort of mods won't be available to me.

I just hope that official Mod Support will be a thing by then, I would happily put my hands in it. But since it will obviously have to wait for Wintermute to be concluded, I have little hope and think the most probable outcome is me switching to another game, instead of keeping me on a modded TLD. Make no mistake, I'll still be very glad to have spent so few bucks in a game for so much time of entertainment.

Well, at least a deadman can choose not to use birch bark tea (unlike the well fed buff).

I think @Drifter Man said it about Outerloper, where you refrain yourself from doing something the game allows: for me it's hard, I prefer putting the restriction in the Custom Code and then have to deal with it. Code is Law. That was the best thing to do in order to kill deadman mode!

Hinterland thinks that 'punishing experience' means recovering 30% each night

I just said myself the exact same thing while watching the video...

i do understand and made the experience that People can get very Angry when one of their favourite games is criticized, but while i hope that i can create a conversation and Argumentation About this Topic, try to Refrain to argue About how much you love the game and therefore i am wrong, and try to realize that as much as i understand that there are a lot of People who enjoy the current state of the game, there are also People who dont enjoy it and can express their criticism

I have to thank you for validating once again my theory that the less people are prone to logic, the less they use punctuation, the more they use unjustified capital letters. (the Bible has this problem too <- joke)

While I do agree with you that every update makes the hardcore gaming (aka deadman and others) easier since you basically get 2 cooking spots, well fed buff , birch tea and energy drink without payoff, I also do realize we represent maybe 5% of the player base, and the more people play TLD, the more we get content and updates. Oh and btw, I just played the new build, you get sprained much more often when playing hardcore since you don't have enough time to lose following the smooth paths. Since a sprained wrist leads rapidly to death, well, not much easier from this POV.

  6. Really happy that the revolver exists, and that it doesn't spawn on Interloper loot. Also like the fact no other firearm is in preparation for near future.

My personal whishlist is getting shorter every update, I like that! Sleepwalkers will LOVE birch tea btw.

    -clothing: craftable hat

-clothing: use socks as poor gloves

-clothing: make bandages useful for any Interloper+

    -really random torches condition

-candles {can+0.5Lfat/oil+cloth/curedgut} on workbench, works only indoors

-protect the fire from wind with your body

    -Campfire: longterm bushcraft ignition solution complement to mag lens {birch bark + stick+ cured gut}

-Campfire: need to spend stones for making campfire (+1min build time), can dismantle it like a shelter, get wood back from dismantling if blown out. Automatic degradation of campfire if left behind (1 week?).

-Sleep on the floor on a fresh/cured hide, zero healing.

-Torch: spend the match only at end of circle

-Torch: make it the default firestarter if already lit

    -Make birch somewhat useful

    - slopes: can’t put fire = can’t QUARTER killed animals if they die on slopes unless Harvest5

    - slopes: fix the sprain system, can’t sprain on flat ground

-Custom code: appear in debug screenshots

-Custom Code: Cabin Fever bugfix (default Voyageur)

-Snares: have them work everywhere you can find rabbit footprints “naturally”

-Map: we should be able to rotate them

-Fire preparation times: instant with firestriker (+chance)/matches, 10min with maglens

  7. Sorry to say, but it feels sort of nice to see that was Pleasant Valley and not just plain bad luck how the weather forced me into the Farmstead most of the time with my #35. I'll never do that again, PV is made just to be crossed. Glad you came out safely tho. Do you have a no-stim rule in this run?

  8. Funny how everyone read a day 44 deadman death as a bad news... Congrats, I wish I could make 44 days in a deadman, not to mention a Summit included :o

Deadman 12 might be the first of the deadman-style I might play later, I didn't like the stim-hunt aspect.

  9. Oh, here's you're first bugged-bear death. Welcome to the club! Died there once, harvesting a deer carcass, then suddenly the bear appeared from nowhere (underground?) and charged me. Long story short, he did die, and I did survive, cause I was nearby a fire and the attracted wolf flew away.

That's already a huge success to have survived the first part of a sleepwalker run.😃

Should you try another one later, I'm pretty sure I'll have to make a diploma soon enough!

about 60-70% of actual mass of snow would be just air

Come'on, air is not that heavy. Sorry for my physicist 2 cents, I couldn't resist! I agree drinking snow is stupid unwise from a warmth POV, but basically you end up there because of dehydration, and that solves the dehydration problem. Creating a bigger one, granted, but still.

As a ski instructor (been there myself), when pupils 'eat snow', it's still a bit funny, right? :D

  11. Hello @Raphael van Lierop and the team, thanks for this reaaaaally nice game.

I have a simple question: why did you (personally or as a team), at some point, chose to reward players exponentially for sleeping long stretches?

Something linear like "in a bed, after the first hour, every hour slept heals twice the normal awake recovery" would have seemed more natural to me. That would still make players sleep long stretches, but not come back from the other side of the Styx in only one night.

It stills bugs me that you can go to bed after a wolf fight with frostbite risk, 4 sprains, hypothermia, eat 7 cattails, drink, choose 10 hours, and start as if nothing happened. As if it was not a big mistake to be careless.

  12. Had 10 Interlopers, my best one was the seventh: 98 days.

I did statistics, my most probable death cause was being wolfed. So I stopped trying to outrun them and began to take cold damage to avoid them. I took the habit to pause quite often while I walk, to hear for their footsteps. Since last update, howling helps too.

My advice would be: find the most probable root cause to your deaths.
