@BareSkin Do you want me to continue the current voyager challenge then since none seem impressed by my distinct lack of suffering? :D

Really, it's a game, do whatever gets you the most fun. If you need more challenge to have more fun, go for it :). Sorry to have underestimated you, that was absolutely not my goal!

Then I take it for Interloper the code is the same, you simply first choose Loper mode and then input the same code to remove the sleep heal?

Absolutely not :D. The final code is some sort of condensed version of the value you input in the parameters. 1 code= 1 set of parameters. It doesn't matter what you choose before putting the code, it's just two different ways of launching the same game. I could also give you all the parameters value, but that'd be less practical. Try for yourself if you want: Choose the Voyageur template, chande "At reste condition" to "None", click "Share Code"= you get the sleepwalking voyageur code.

If you really want to start the Interloper version and get the "Proudly Arrogant" diploma, this is Sleepwalker level 0, the code is 8MDM-qj4P-KxuD-iaGO-7gAA. But I strongly advise you not to try before being confident a bit with interloper (its cold, its lack of weapons...). For everything else I will refer you my "Bareskins are Sleepwalking" series and to this explaining post, since all the custom codes are there, copy-pastable:

the biggest difference is the wolf population. Wouldn't turning down the wolves just make it voyager?

I'd say yes (the needs deplete faster but you still find plenty of resources). It's a point I disagree with many people, but to me what characterizes Interloper is the absence of Rifle (and lack of spawn bedroll). I might be very wrong about it, 'cause I never played Stalker. The numbers of wolves is not that important when you have a rifle. Interloper (and thus sleepwalkers and deadmen) is the only mode in which you're defenseless until you earn the right to be the hunter.

A good compromise would be to have Stalker-sleepwalker settings (still easy to keep being Well Fed, but colder and stronger wolves) with Voyageur spawn chance and without the Rifle. The Custom code for that would be 8lGY-mmpa-KBpD-hymG-LgEA, or if you want to do it yourself:

    -Select Stalker base template

    -Remove sleep-healing (it's a sleepwalker)

-Tune down "Wolf spawn chance" from "Very high" (Stalker) to "Medium" (Voyageur)

    -Set "Rifle availability" to "No"

There is no settings for removing the whetstones, you're just unlucky :D

I'm kind of glad though that I'm such a lousy shot. I don't feel sorry with the snares, but I do feel sorry for silly fluffies when they're caught with bare hands.

Oh yes, told that myself on my first day of Interloping. The next day, I was starved and didn't think twice before shooting, snapping, harvesting, cooking and eating it. I wonder, how do you deal with rifle-shooting deers then? On my first successful attempt at Sleepwalking, I ended proud when I didn't have to kill deers anymore. I just kept them roaming around my house, as a company. Late lopers are really empty and silent, so it's good to have friends.

  3. 4 hours ago, tulkawen said:

In terms of Stalker, I would prefer Interloper.

That would be a simple pure Sleewalker level 0, and It's made for those very confident on themselves regarding Interloper, so, fell free to try when you feel ready! But you could also fine-tune a Stalker Sleepwalker (since it's a customized mode) to tune down just the wolf population 1 step below regular Stalker.

I do not have the ability to hit rabbits with stones

Speak to them nicely, and they'll align themselves for you. There's a pic in last last OIC of Cinderella for the shooting moment.

@BareSkin By the way, what have you done to the whetstones? :D In which way has their existence not pleased you?

I do love them, 1stone=1knife. That is, when I don't die on my trip to the forge, of course. Before that, they're obviously never needed. I never crafted or used a hatchet, tbh.

  4. Finding another set of matches would be nice, finding a Maglens would even get you past the first month.

    My basic strategy would be:

1/ Whatever spawn, rush the Spence for the matches.

2/ grab guts as soon as possible to start curing them (the rabbit pelts take 2 days less)

3/ once nearby carcassing processing is over (24h?), get enough cloth to go build the Shelter. The cave will have a rope for shortcutting next time.

4/ grab the coal in mine, and stockpile nearby fuel+ cure more rabbit in the cave.

5/ repair the shelter (2sticks if >80%), run to the bench for a crafting session of either snares or mitts/hats/boots/pants (need tackles)

Also, I'm intrigued to see if throwing stones to scare charging wolves actually works

It works, but I wouldn't bet my life on it, it's really out of desperation given the probability of the hit "connecting"

  5. I don't see you survive for too long staying at the Homestead because it consumes a lot of non-renewable fuel. This is clearly the best to way to start (for matches, loot, bed), but if I were you and since you now have the needed cloth, after I collected as many pelts and guts as possible, I'd go live near Marsh Ridge in a shelter.

That's a long way, but there's no choice imo, you'll need an indoor sooner or later, and you won't find a bedroll. My plan, long term, with the Skaters, was to live there, on snares, since there's also tons of fuel nearby.

Welcome to Interloper :D. I nearly died around here once, I was so sure to find at least 1 house... lost a lot of health to hypo this day.

A challenge? What sort of challenge? :P It's going to be a very short challenge.

*takes out a hatchet branch and knights @tulkawen with it*

Milady! I challenge you to a test!

You shall launch a new game, select custom mode, click "Enter Code" and copy-paste this code: +29k-lpWh-KJXp-hqx9-rgAA

This is a Voyageur settings you know very well, but without the sleep-healing.

Voyageur rules: you can choose your map if you so wish, whatever gender you prefer, and up to 4 feats.

    Survive 100 days. Sub-challenge: Summit.

As a reward, you'll get tons of good habits to take to your Loper adventures, and a lovely simili-certificate

  8. Hehe, now you get how Rest is a resource like mushrooms? It's nice to see your decisions. I would have tried my luck in the Riken for clothing (sometimes cargo pants or sweater), but sure Coastal Highway is a high-resources place.

yeah, I stopped playing Voyager after 60 days of "surviving", nothing to do anymore that could be a real challenge. I start wondering if Cinderella will not die soon of boredom... ;p

You just said that before I did. After day 61 (which I played yesterday) I paused this Cinderella and went back to Bareskin31 to finish it (a Sleepwalker level 7, not reported on the forums, was on day 66, the challenge goes to 100).

I said pause and not stopped, cause I think I will be back to Cinderella later. Old Island connector was a challenge, but I don't see any in CH, PV, TWM (there's a bench, the temp don't drop in Voyageur, there's an indoor cave, deers and predators, not to mention huge loot if you get hacksaw), ML, FM, MT and BRR... BUT Hushed River Valley can be fun (no bench=no craft, no tackle), and the Ravine might also be somewhat difficult.

    - Greeted by stones, rose hips, flare and soda in a car. The flare is really ice, I’m so defenseless.

My first true friend, I will name you Flara

    - In the back of the car, a Rifle. Lol. Challenge finished already. Oh, no bullets, OK it’ll have to wait for the next house

    screen_d5f7c8dc-7cc5-40db-a542-180ac06e300e.thumb.png.0462aea9f25b778e27f29fda4c015439.png

    - Coastal Cottages are usually all burnt on Loper, but I’m sure I’ll find at least one in this run, and I’m right: while grabbing sticks, I can see it in the beginning of an aurora. Oh, even 2 of them.

    screen_a01b2bc5-d912-48c2-abf8-c291c4746050_hi.thumb.png.d79f6e9eb8cd16d6163a54f1e8c451e2.png

    -I think I see a wolf, but that’s a mailbox

    - The only danger now that I have a flare is the nearby bear: I’m ready to run but don't need it.

    - First house gives FL+1, put my naked body in the +8 bed, sleep 2hours (can't sleep more), then passtime for daylight

    screen_7acd341a-8df8-4600-9d89-a2b1e708a309_hi.thumb.png.e982a329179fde7c870586618ad3a320.png

Isn't it cosy, compared to my trusty Shelty?

    - In the morning I loot: t-shirt, very nice Fisherman’s sweater (doesn’t exist on loper I think), leather shoes, second flare, useless flare shell, porkandbeans*3, soda*2, recycled can *2, tomato soup, cooking pot, peaches, 1.5L water +1.62L in the toilet, candy bar, bandage

    screen_46c64cd3-f1b7-4dec-8255-a8333731e0e3.thumb.png.5221d2cc246d8736e8761380f44db7b9.png

-The second house gives me even more of everything and some I didn’t have yet: cotton scarf, trail boots, painkillers, useless can opener (cooking3+), 20 matches, second pot, sports vest and wool mittens, sewing kit, wool scarf, jeans, light shell…

    - Some mending later...

-Voyageur: you’re broke, but 24h and 2 houses later, you’re a King that doesn’t know what to do with the loot.

    impressive run, thanks for sharing.

(do you think this map was doable without exploiting the starvation glitch ?)

Oh yes certainly, I did this just out of laziness, if you check Day 47 spoilers images, you see 50coals, 36 sticks, 20 reclaimed, 52 matches...

Basically not exploiting it for the last 13 days would need some more fuel for water (for 13 days I didn't even harvest branches or make another coal run). The water was the bottleneck, I was swimming in food and didn't even took the snared rabbits for the last 10 days.

I'm wondering if I could actually have made it without the bedroll (only the can). The cloth was available, and the temperatures were not that harsh, but the start would have been more epic: I'd have to prioritize making the shelter, that's 15 sticks and 5 cloth to find and I had mainly leather from the mine. The food and water wouldn't have been a problem despite not harvesting the deers as a priority, since I've have civilized food (6sodas) I didn't even touch.

The strategy would have been to transfer in morning in Harris to find cloth, then in the afternoon (with only less than half the Rest bar), find 15 sticks, back to Harris for warmup, loot the Arch cave if more cloth needed, warmup in the mine, and build the Shelter in early night just before completed exhaustion, sleep 1h chunks until too cold, then transfer indoors to wait better temperatures, then in late night find 2sticks (max cold bonus) start the deer harvesting with coal.

I was already bum deep in hypoth and lost 8% health

This is actually a perfect start for a TWM Loper start, even if I wouldn't have paused for stalks and boats (I pause only for potential clothes when in hyporisk)

You mean those nice toasty evening hours right before the weather plummets and you'll be trudging in pitch darkness before you get half way to your mark while the wolves from all over the map start stalking you?

Nope, just before that :D. Also, a warm afternoon is useless if very windy. (Voyageur stats)

    - Start the day with 100% thanks to sleeping on my remaining reading calories

    - Fully rested around 5AM. Grab two snared rabbits, I place the snares back, for helping the next survivor coming in here.

    - At noon, I’ll be around 90% health, and I’ll go back to full stomach habits (like sleepwalkers) that will bring me back to 100% just before midnight

    - At noon I’m dehydrated (nice timing), I eat all the cooked meat I can find

    - Grab fuel in the mine (3sticks 6 coals), water, the civilized food that can’t poison me (actually all of it, since I'm cooking5) and my last match, transfer to Harris, waiting for the evening

    - On my way, I snap a rabbit, get barked in my back while running to the basement. With my condition, I’m pretty sure I would have survived a struggle anyway

    screen_b24d1c5d-a9c5-49c3-ac02-71b83c22f784.thumb.png.894be8057a99d8ccf746acf49a2b1a77.png

-Harvest 1 rabbit steak, sleep 2h. Uselessly, since in the outside backpack, steaks have been here 30 days, they’re still at 80% condition

    screen_40aef933-d414-41be-b678-75c5ae9c6ac5.thumb.png.8dfc7c830d9791a32b7bc57d02d8f372.png

-At dusk I’m welcomed by strong winds, I wait night lights to transfer near the CH exit

    - At around 11PM the blizzard dies: I full my stomach for the last time and go make a campfire sheltered under the rock near the exit

    - I use one of my flares for the fun of it, but 5 seconds later I’m followed by 2 barking wolves

    screen_2fda7e51-5c36-43cd-8dc4-ab8bd8a6a62d_hi.thumb.png.110b5d50c1da63d83829ee4a48cd492a.png

    - The sub-challenge of surviving 30 days with 12 matches is beaten, since I don’t even use my last match to start my last fire. Didn’t touch civilized food.

    - Wait neat the fire, and suddenly have a passion for Mother Nature: I get naked and think about my life

    screen_185ba5c3-2378-4540-9883-d8293c2a6484_hi.thumb.png.4f8d05099bd1c7b946857cb36a788d7f.png

    - I burn everything, I hate my life and want this meaningless struggle to end.

    - Warm by the fire, my ass on the Bareskin Bedroll, I think while looking at the stars for 1h. I realize I’m actually not ready to commit suicide.

    - I cook my 2 mushroom teas, drink them, kiss my can goodbye, and leave for a new start in life

    - Walking in the midnight snow I realize it took me only 60 days to become completely crazy. I’m a naked woman walking in the night, with a bearskin bedroll as top-fashion coat. I close my eyes and see myself in Paris streets. Fashion week.

On Loper you do not get 75% sleep-heal per 10h.

Right, that's from 32% to 42% depending on where you sleep and if you took Herbal. That's a maximum of 3 nights to get back to full health.

    9 hours ago, tulkawen said:

You cannot plan against the cold (I'm not talking about the long term where temp drops)

I think we will agree to disagree on that point, because you can. The game has better hours and weather to wait for traveling, and a warmup bonus that is very precious (plus running, plus wind-shielded paths). Also a lot of places for warmup pauses (fire) if your travel is long. With this in mind, if from point A to point B you heavily lose health, it means point B was too far :D. Anyway a good sleep will give you back at least on third of your bar. For long term drop, the planning is more about having weapons to craft clothes.

TL,DR: That must be doable, since people do it :D

  15. 2 minutes ago, tulkawen said:

you have to stay out in the cold for many reasons

    3 minutes ago, tulkawen said:

    That sounds painful. :o

It's just a viewpoint... being able to heal 75% of your life overnight could also seem... boring to some ;). Sleep-healing basically allows YOLO-lifestyle ( and I can guess what you like in that), while sleepwalking forces you to pay for your mistakes, to plan in advance, etc...

    - I’ll try to get as much life back as I can, since day 60 approaches: I’ll eat as soon as possible the penalty allows 8h worth of calories before disappearing, which I don't want. Get some life back:

    - hibernating

    BareSkin32- D58 [Cinderella ]

    - 71% health, but the penalty went off, I ate too much.

    - At the Mine, I grab and harvest all the frozen rabbits I deposited here

    - take some cooked and raw food to the shelter

    - AT-32 at midnight thanks to a Blizzard, second campfire is sheltered: time for a match

    - 1 match left

    BareSkin32- D59 [Cinderella ]

    - 81% health

    - Today is holiday! I eat some food to read my 2 books, those 10j bring my back to 91% thanks to awake healing (+1%/h on Voyageur)

    - hibernating.

    - At dusk I’m down to 19% health, and I still have 9 hibernating hours worth of thirst, so that’s a perfect match

    screen_ff4a595d-7267-456d-a001-0e52b289af1d.thumb.png.ffea503d8f46a4eb9af209f22fb19335.png

    BareSkin32- D52 [Cinderella ]

    - 9% health, dehydrated: time for eating and healing 8h

    - Only 2L of water left (+ the 5 sodas I found), so if tomorrow morning is nice, I’ll spend one of my last 3 matches, since the last one I spent was on day 47 the maths are still good for the sub-challenge

    BareSkin32- D53 [Cinderella ]

    - It’s a nice cold morning (-24°C at 3AM, that’ll make a -27 dawn) so I go spend a match.

    - I don’t cook, I have plenty enough food, since I eat 563/2=280 calories per day and still have 4 1kg-rabbit steaks

    - Looking at the winds, I use my torch to change the fire placing before putting coal into it

    screen_7e6f0362-a4af-4b81-b4cb-9b53520fdff3.thumb.png.41b1cc8b9adeb35a305f41596d2bb520.png

    - I might have to babysit it if winds turn

    - 1 water cycle later, it’s blizzard, of course the Evilwind turned, but it seems the place is nicely sheltered for now.

    - AT actually reaches -30°C, great for data points I missed

    - AT then reaches -40°C, even greater!

    - At noon, EvilWind appears and kill my fire, I made 11L of water and ended up cooking the rabbits (1 slot left anyway) for full stomach on departure

    - I repair my 83% shelter, and go back to hibernating, swimming in my water bottles, it’s FL-4 in the shelter, but since the temperature are rising I go sleep safely in the cloth bedroll

    - 2 matches left. Still doable

Here are my Cold bonus findings so far, the lack of precision is mainly due to having only a can and cooking 5, plus the game rounding time display in minutes:

    - Just after publishing the “How to Ruin Voyageur”, I stupidly not follow my recipe and end up with 12% of my life and ¾ of my thirst bar (=9h sleeping)

    - I’ll have to be careful since my health will drop to 3% before I get dehydrated

    - While a 2% life, I carefully repair the 82% shelter and go for a nice healing sleep-heal
