Well, there is 'Deadman Lite', where a tiny amount of health recovery is possible..

I'm pretty sure I'll sooner or later play a Custom with rest healing  giving as much as regular healing per unstarved hour (thanks @Ruruwawa for science), additional  healing during restit just doesn't make sense, the bed is not a Hospital and the emergency stim giving you health back forever is not realistic either. Being starved all day long and eating 750 calories in front of a bed doesn't make much more sense. I will keep Cabin Fever and think more about Rest as a Resource (since "pass time" exists).

I posted a wish in the wish list thread some time ago, asking for having a minimum at rest recovery rate equal to the condition recovery setting

+1, that's not that easy to code since one curve is linear and the other is exponential. If we had Code where these two "healing" processes where additive during sleep (i.e. regular applies on every "lived" hour), we'd just have to set "resting" to zero. It doesn't make sense either to be able to make a mode where you recover less from the first hours of sleep than if you were awake.

I make it there in time and even try to bag some rabbits but as usual when I'm hungry, I fail

Does it even happen to you not being hungry? ^_^ New wishlist proposal: during auroras, rabbits and stones get magnetized, any stone thrown roughly towards a rabbit hits.

Hmmm... I wonder how Deadman 4 suddenly became Deadman 3 again during the course of Day 5.

"Reincarnation is the philosophical or religious concept that an aspect of a living being starts a new life in a different physical body"

Deadman3 did got rid of all of his needs. He achieved what BareSkin7 is still failing, despite trying hard. That's what masters of made for.

Any other tips for "good" rabbit zones?

Wonder if you've checked JackRabbit's on CH. That might be a fine retirement place for a deadman id the rabbit's science is good. Fishing huts, workbench, nice visibility, beautiful sunsets.

About modes that make sens, what about BedLoper? You can't use use bedrolls. I think if you manage to craft you own, you've completed the challenge, maybe? The harder version of it is BareLoper: you don't find a flare pistol either.

  4. My experience about snares:

-good place is where you can hunt rabbit that naturally spawn. I remember the is only one place in the Ravine I've seen rabbits spawn, in front of a cave, near the rope point maybe, after a bridge on the right hand when going towards ML? I'd place all my snares here.

-any other place is not working (like, surroundings of Camp Office, tried everywhere I could see grass)

-the rabbit can't spawn before 24h since you placed it

-my rabbits always spawned after I slept, even 1h.

That was nice trying to shoot the deer, imagine it hitO.o Good luck!

So I can as well give it a shot. As soon as I hit zero calories again tomorrow, I'll process all the rabbit carcasses piled up in the cave for pelts and guts... and see if anything happens.

Never noticed a reduction in snare efficiency, I sorta never collected the pelts. But the guts, I did.

Besides, the deer is just a patch-up, not a solution. The meat will be gone in 2-3 days, then what? :)

Then you'll have cured guts, more snares... I'd take my chance approaching the deer from behind, crouched. I think the flare gun allows you to shoot crouched. I also think the detection range of the deer decreases when it "sniffing" the ground.

    Good luck!

  6. To the whole Hinterland team: Are you pleased with the positive feedback you get from players? Is there enough to be satisfied as a developing team?

I said several times in my survival stories that I loved the game (and sometimes hated it, which is the same), but never sent direct feedback to the actual humans behind it.:$

  7. Never seen a snare break before several blizzards spent outside. And I wouldn't grab them if there's a blizzard, for fear that the "catching timer" would be reset.

If you're not traveling anymore, as desperate measure the teas have some calories until the first rabbits.

Or maybe food poisoning on a thin deer carcass? Reduce average calories consumption to 75/h since you can sleep all you want.

    Good Luck, UndeadMan!

Some excellent info here - thanks.

I gave up snares after I couldn't catch nearly anything except the first day I placed them. Next day, and on the following days, they'd be no rabbits anywhere (hopping or caught).

    I'll give them another try.

Pretty sure it could help a lot in a DeadMan anytime you stop somewhere since calories are golden, but that's a rare scenario. At a Forge or workbench maybe?

  9. I can confirm this, in my current Loper I put 3 snares out of a snow shelter on JackRabbits (CH), it fed me easily for days. The spot you place them seems important, I always choose a place where I killed rabbits.

Second thing, the snares don't "decay", or at least it's not shown. I had two of these three brake from 100% to "Ruined" at one day interval, I craft them all the same day and used them concomitantly. IMO since they are so easy to  make and provide you with guts, they should brake more often. The only downside is Scent while picking up the rabbits.

Yes, I'd already be insane by now. Funny, I thought the idea was about maxing out the bad things. A new challenge is taking shape in my head.

    Deadman: Deader Still

Don't forget to turn the wolves harder too, then. I think that's why you survived last time, when the wolf "inexplicably" flew away, it just "feared" you (based on Protection value?) or you torch I suppose.
