ManicManiac
[PSA] As I mentioned in my tangent post: Non Sequitur... , while I've only come across some minor bugs in the most recent update so far, I've decided to "shelter in place" until the next round of hotfixes. In the meantime... dreaming of living on a deserted (and rather "blockly") island. 🤭 Edited June 27, 2023 by ManicManiac

ManicManiac
I still have to wait out a blizzard... but I'm back on the move. I'll hole-up here for the night. I'll be heading for Cedar Falls Bridge tomorrow.
ManicManiac
The blizzard thankfully blew itself out in only a couple of hours... a fortunate turn. I did scout ahead but opted to spend the night in this cave (as I'd planned before the storm broke). Thankfully the weather was clear, and I didn't need to light a fire to warm the cave overnight. I did drop off all ~60 sticks to be left there in case future me ever had a need. 🤭
ManicManiac
Early the next morning, I made my way to Spruce Falls Bridge. I decided to drop off some gear and supplies in the cave near the Radio Tower. Tomorrow, I think I'll head for the Jackrabbit Transport crash site. [Addendum] I did also find this... but it was empty. Edited July 2, 2023 by ManicManiac
ManicManiac
I think today, I'll use this cave near the radio tower as a temporary encampment. Specifically, I'll lighten the pack here so I can gather up things I find around the crash site, and stop back here to pick things up on the way back out. Seems the sensible thing to do... 🤔 Edited July 8, 2023 by ManicManiac
ManicManiac
I got started fairly early the next morning. I took time to sort and stow most of the gear and supplies I'd picked up on the route so far and continued on towards the Jackrabbit Transport crash site. ...and then onwards to the nearby cave below. ...with a spectacular view of the ravine below. After gathering up what I could, I made my way back up to head back to the Milton Park Office. I stopped back at the cave near the radio tower to gather up everything I'd left behind this morning. As the weather started to take a turn for the worse, I kept pressing on back to the Milton Park Office. I ate a can of tomato soup (got food poisoning)... I figured it couldn't get much worse, so I topped up with a can of sardines, took some antibiotics and bedded down for the next 10 hours. That hike back to the Milton Park Office was a slow crawl... but I'd made it. Tomorrow, I'll start prospecting through Milton proper.
Leeanda
How did you get past that wolf at the crash site? Every time I go up that wing he's standing at the top of it..
ManicManiac
@Leeanda I kept low and stuck close to the ridge line on the lefthand side. The wolf was prowling up on top of the hill and nearer to the right side. I'll try to find a suitable screenshot later. Not on stalker you don't😅. On pilgrim he does run down the same way, but when he sees me he's off down the hill.. then he goes into that long passageway and freaks out at the end of it😁
ManicManiac
@Leeanda I didn't have a good screenshot to use... but this one will have to do. It was still dicey, and I had to stay crouched and wait a couple of times to wander far enough over the crest of the hill on the other side of that half-fallen tree in order to slip past.
ManicManiac
[Accompaniment:]Qillix - Most Wanted I spent the morning to sort and stow. Today is all about Milton. It may take me a couple of days to sort through all the houses... perhaps it won't be the most interesting day, but it's sure to be profitable. I'd also have to be very careful. Coming down with food poisoning last night didn't do me any favors. I decided I would start by searching through all the abandoned cars... but first I figured I would start with a foothold at the little shack on the hill on the outskirts of town. Oh... this doesn't look like it was a very happy scenario. 🤔 I did eventually get spotted by the wolves in town... and did have to retreat into one of the near by houses. While I was waiting an hour or so for the wolves to move on, the weather had taken a drastic turn for the worse. A blizzard had rolled in... but at least that meant that the wolves would clear out of town. It the storm was going to chew through my clothing a bit... but I thought it was worth it to be able to more easily be out in the middle of town to finish searching the abandoned automobiles. Found three or four batteries... I think that's more than I've found on the entire run so far. Eventually I decided to get myself setup in Grey Mother's old house. Seems the most ideal spot for a secondary encampment here in town. I found a surprising amount of cooking ingredients, and even a skillet. I was pretty happy about that. I don't know if I'll get a chance to really experiment with cooking anytime soon, but it's nice to have found some of the things I'd need to eventually try it out. After the food poisoning last night, and not really eating or drinking anything during the day... I was feeling more than half-dead. Between the small shack on the hill on the outskirts of town, one of the abandoned cars, and the flare gun I found in the bathtub; I'd found three firearms today. I mean two revolvers in one day is surprising enough, but to then find a flare gun as well was really unexpected. I had a decent enough meal (from more of the lowest quality food I had on hand). There was the possibility of getting yet another bout of food poisoning... but fortune smiled. I should be feeling much better tomorrow after a solid 11 hours of sleep. I won't mention exactly where I found it... but I did find this today:
Leeanda
Only one can of soda? Highly surprising for Milton,it's the soda capital of great bear😁 Re.. plane crash .... ManicManiac
Finding a skillet and some ingredients right of the bat at Grey Mother's house was encouraging. Maybe I'll see about pancakes one of these mornings before I have to leave for Hushed River Valley. 🤔
ManicManiac
After a good night's rest, I think I'm more-or-less recovered. I don't know if will take one or two more days to get the houses in Milton searched and sorted.
ManicManiac
Today was a rather slow day... but held many profits in store. With the wolves prowling in town, I had to be careful. I decided for today, that I would stick close to Grey Mother's house. I hit the two houses next door and then ventured across the street to prospect the Milton Credit Union building. Started off as a beautiful sunny day in Milton. However, it wasn't long before the wind kicked up and fairly heavily overcast. I did decide to take one excursion back up to the Radio Tower to survey. I didn't get a chance to the day before (I didn't have any charcoal on me). I quickly found out the wolves were already out-in-force this morning... I started prospecting with the two houses on my right. The first house didn't have a whole lot... but still there was food and a few clothing items to had. Also, this poor teddy bear left behind... forever waiting for a child that would likely never return. A sad store, I'm certain of that... If I could give it a new home, I would have. The next house didn't have much inside either... but it was mostly stripped down; maybe an abandoned renovation project... but now just looks just like the barren shack up on the hill on the edge of town. These two houses were boarded up... I did risk getting spotted by wolves when I went to check the doghouse. It was empty though. My gut told me to check over the cars again while I was out and about... It was a good thing I did. Though I know I tipped down all the visors the other day... when I peeked in the window of this car, there was a note that I'd swear wasn't there before. 🤔 It described where to find a stash of supplies left behind by someone else... but I've not seen anyone in the last 80 days or so. I guess I'll go see if I can find it another day. As I approached the Credit Union I saw wolf sign... their howls sound like they are literally just around the corner. I decided not to push my luck and quickly ducked inside. Times like this, I kind of wish I had a quarter. 🤭 The credit union was a wealth of gear and supplies. Found quite a bit of coffee, some tea, other bits of clothing and gear. ...And yet another Flare Gun! My goodness... the town of Milton really seems to want me to have firearms. That's four in total now... two revolvers and two flare guns. Huh... I did not expect to find a candy bar in the mailbox of Grey Mother's House. What a nice little gift. When I got back to Grey Mother's House, I decided to sort and stow... and spend the rest of the day cooking. Nothing special though... I just have several cans of food that I need to cook for later, and I do have a need to build up a good water supply. I did find a pack of water purification tablets from one of the cars the other day... so that helps to get a start on a water stockpile much faster. I managed to put away 14 liters of water in the fridge, and a couple dozen mugs of Herbal Tea and Coffee. I timed the fire well enough with sticks and was able to pull a torch just to save a little lantern fuel to get upstairs to bed. I like staying in Lily's room... it would just feel wrong to stay in Grey Mother's room. She was still on of the last few people in Milton... not long ago. All in all, I have a lot more food and water than when I started out this morning. All things considered... it's been a good day. ajb1978
Man times like this, I kinda wish there was some sort of multiplayer element. Paradise Meadows is my main base, and I'm stocked to survive like 10 apocalypses. I'd totally invite you over for a Breyerhouse Pie and a cup of real actual coffee. Not that Acorn crap. (I do like the idea of acorn coffee in-game, but IRL it sucks. You'd be objectively better off chewing gravel.)

ajb1978
While I sincerely regret serving it cold, I am nevertheless committed to this fanfic that here ya go. A Breyerhouse Pie with all the accoutrements. Salt too, in case I didn't season it to your liking. (Edit: Your Honor, I submit this as Exhibit A as to why the Placing Anywhere mod should be part of the core game.) ManicManiac
Thank you. I'm certain it's quite delicious. Especially considering I've been working my way through an alarming number of cans of dogfood recently.
