Random terrain/map generation

I'd love a random gen "survive until rescued" challenge.  No man-made shelter, no workbench, no forge, but somewhere there is a flare gun and rounds.

Fire the flare gun and the next day a plane overflies you and drops a small crate with more matches, sparse tools (eg, hatchet, whetstone, fish hooks), meds and a few day's worth of food.  And a note telling you help is coming but it will take a several days to hike in and lower a rope to you.  Hang on!

Lots of possible stuff to randomize here in addition to terrain.  Starting gear, location of the flare gun and additional rounds, location of natural shelters, what's in the supply drop, is there a fishing hole or not?  RNG could affect your approach to the challenge a lot, and that would help a lot with replayability.

True but it would require tons of work. It would make a nice future spin off game. For instance, one with top down 2D graphics.

why not both? kind of like 7 days to die, we could simply choose if we want to play the created maps or have a randomgen experience. the created maps would serve their purpose for story mode, of course, mainly.
