I was stunned to wake up to a Coastal Highway day without fog! The first picture is what I usually get. The other pictures capture a cold, crisp morning with clear skies. I can feel the freshness of the air, smell the sap of the trees. CH isn't a preferred region of mine because of the wolves, but you sure can't beat these views (well, when you can see them!).

In my last run I caught these gorgeous shots over my cosy little Trapper's home. Gosh I bloody love this game. It really is beautiful.

@conanjaguar I love this bonkers challenge! I'm fascinated by all the mad challenges people come up with. After this current run, or maybe alongside if it is a long one, I might even throw my hat in the ring on something. It will have to allow a gun though, I've spent so many hours trying to master the bow and I just can't. Not worth the rage 😁 I'll keep watching with great interest! Rusty is a very pushy salesman for sure. Always always catches me or attempts to! Good luck looking for the hammer my friend.

Fabulous! It's a shame you missed console but PC is far from second class. There is something "pure" about it in some ways. Back to the days of Donkey Kong & Chuckie Egg 😁 Lovely to meet you Asinine. Hopefully we'll bump into each other again along the trail.

Clear bright skies first thing in the morning. Its the most magical, wonderful time of the day. I'll get to posting some gorgeous screenshots I took today in CH. I was so surprised because it's normally foggy and misty for me there! I do like blizzards when I'm snug indoors with a fire roaring and I can hear it outside. But I'd rather not be out in them thank you very much 😁 Great poll!

I didn't know about this!!!!! How did I not know about this after 6years?! Thank you so much for mentioning it. I am changing that tomorrow for sure! I hear you about the settings. I play a mishmash Custom. Loadddds of loot. Crazy cold. Fewer and less aggressive wolves with far spawning. But lots of Bears and Moose because I need warm coats! Plus if I don't have access to a rifle then I starve. I suck majorly with the bow and can't stone bunnies. Anyway thanks again for this. It will make a huge difference.

DOH! I really hate it when I do that! Sometimes I forget I haven't yet gotten to level 5 cooking and happily munch. I've also taken off the survivor monologue for the first time on my new run and I almost missed the food poisoning just before bed. I'm now making sure I check my condition after eating just in case. I sure don't miss the constant whinging about carrying too much! (Strange... I can't think of the 'character' as Astrid, its me, so always refer to 'her' in the first person. Shows how immersed I get!) OK I'm having to get used to you making me snort laugh! I think he was annoyed you took all the dog food. He especially likes the low condition variety. I'm nervous about CH for you. I've just left it for the final time today and my wolves aren't Stalker wolves. Even so I've been mauled three times, twice was in quick succession and I almost died. I had to double check that my settings weren't set to close spawn because he was on me before I even heard the growl (well not quite but pretty much). Until I have a good stock of lichen bandages I always carry an antiseptic. I know its heavy but of all the crap I usually carry, to me it is pretty much an essential. Those wolves do like chomping on us. And the bears! I only narrowly missed that bloody bear by the rope in CH again. Watch out for that Yogi chick. I think I might have annoyed him by depriving him of dinner. I don't want your death on my conscience! Overburdened? Us? NEVER 😁

Holy crap! I am so relieved you survived. I don't think that deer was going to let off easily... (I personally think the sprains system is broken. I can understand why they put it in, but the way its actually set up is quite preposterous. It's why I always take sprains off). But this is good to know if I ever come across a carcass on an incline playing a set rather than custom game Good grief. I'm starting to sense you are disaster prone as me my friend 😁🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Discs? Do things still come on discs?! I was shocked when I realised a new laptop wouldn't come with a built in disc drive. Talk about making me feel old. I still remember the days before even the floppy disk!

I think this was one of the biggest reasons why I quit playing Stalker and started making custom games where it was more difficult weather wise rather than from the wolves. I also took the Timberwolves out. Its not that I want an easy game, but I do want to be able to appreciate the scenery, settings and exploration. For me that's where the magic lies. Irl I'm hyper vigilant and it is exhausting, I don't want it in my game! After a few tries I found a really good balance (for me) - much harder weather, less wolves and far spawning, no Timberwolves, lots of bears. Yes the bears scare me more but it's the proliferation of aggressive wolves which makes it a game of watching for them and little else. I know not everyone feels that way, but that's why there are different modes and the custom game. You can tailor it to your own preferences. Lol yes it would make excellent tinder! I think I got dysentery once when I drank unboiled water by mistake, but I'm not even sure about that. It definitely not one of the common afflictions. Oh god I know what you mean! I think that's why I stopped trying to master the stone throwing. I only snare the rabbits, never shoot or stone them. And I only do the snaring when I really have to! The bunnies never jump out on you and try and tear your throat out or pound you into the ground with no provocation. I don't like killing them 🥺

That's a good point. Maybe that's their aim/hope.... that the revenue from DLC content would give them the resources needed to take the game development to the next level. I just commented in another thread about Hinterland in this respect. I'm *amazed* they've given us this beautiful game, and continue to tangibly improve it, all for incredibly low price. They've always displayed excellent ethics as well and obviously love the game as we do. That is so incredibly rare. I mean, all you have to do is look at Hinterland against the likes of Bethesda and EA and you can clearly see the gulf between them. TLD is way undersold for what they have given and continue to give us. I would be very happy to put more money in the Great Bear piggy bank!

Even if you had I don't think it would have prepared you for the Stalker wolves chick. When I went up from Voyageur I checked everything and it was still like being thrown into lake of starving piranhas with no warning. I still bear the scars! Ah of course.... that's why someone has made a toilet roll mod...

Yes, as Piddy commented... very well said Chrislacruz. I couldn't have put it better! It's why I try not to grumble about the game, I really value Hinterland and this game. Put them next to devs like Bethesda and it is clear they are in a league of their own. I'd be excited to purchase a TLD DLC, especially to expand on the Sandbox experience. The game they have created is magic and if they benefit so do we.

I had such a crush on MacGyver! I do like the idea of Advanced Cooking. It's one of the suggestions which really does make sense. You get to level 5 cooking then get a whole raft of new things to make. Or even be able to make them from the start. Either way it totally fits and would add much more depthand things to do/aim for. A lone survivor like ours for sure would be working out other things to cook.

Gosh I'm welling up! Reminds me of my mad little Spaniel Charlie, he used to run after me like that, and cross his wee furry lion paws. Oh I'm so torn! I'm hugely isolated irl too and having company is scary in case... in case... But if he's impervious to harm.... I'll definitely think about it Piddy. I certainly wouldn't want to abandon a run to fade into The Long Dark if my wee fox buddy was with me...

And the plumbing, never know when we might need those pipes. Oh and all the cleaning stuff, all those guts do not make for a sanitary environment. Oh and and and.... EVERYTHING!!! Just in case 😁 I might have to do a Pilgrim run on it again. If I can learn the routes I'd feel much better. It genuinely does make me panic! Haha love it! Yeah we'll do it in style chick, no dull fading into The Long Dark for us. Go big or home! You're welcome my darling. Yes, they can smell you from a million miles away, and they have higher aggression. Plus I believe they are set to close spawn so that's often the encounters where they're on you before your brain can even process the growl. I forgot about Place From Inventory. I'll drop that in before I continue tomorrow. Would have come in handy today, I had a session with a lot of swearing while I was fighting with a spray paint can, trying to put it on the table. I kept picking it up again by mistake and, well, it just descended into a farce! The fox sounds adorable! But I'm not sure, I think my survivor (or should I say me) will find it difficult having company after so much solitude. I'd also worry about him. Even if I knew he wasn't programmed to get hurt, I'm such a big softie I would still worry! 🤷‍♀️

It's the increased aggression and smell range on Stalker that does it. You quite often don't even get the chance to lead them on a merry dance while they growl at you. Yeah I know, those Bears can bloody move for big heavy beasts! I nearly wet myself today when I left the little trailer by the rope in CH and *immediately* heard that roar. Thankfully I was so close to the door I just turned round and stayed inside for about 3 hours gibbering in the corner 😄
