  1. I certainly have no problem with it being needed as I tend to have an over abundance of unnecessary pain pills, and rarely any problems with moose. My problem is with how it used as a cure in such an unpractical way. If it did mitigate the penalties incurred with a sprained ankle or in this case moose stomping. Then one can be like "oh it helps with the pain so he can carry on more easily" However as it does nothing, but "cure" the ailment. One is forced to wonder "what's up with that?" It's fine for a video game to "video game" however when it can make more sense it ought to make more sense. Right now it seems to be in place solely to give pain pills a purpose.
  2. So when you are attacked by a moose you get broken ribs. It heals after a long period of rest, but not just rest you need bandages and I'm fine with that, but what doesn't make sense is that no matter how much time passes you *need* pain killers. Which is very odd. Take 4 pills and suddenly you're all healed up, but before taking those pills your carry capacity is heavily hampered. Now I think the pills are a good idea to mitigate the carry capacity penalty as it helps the survivor to manage the pain. Outside of that though it simply doesn't make sense.
  3. Well I'd like some long lasting lighting options. Something that might through 3-4 nights might be nice. So I like the candle idea as my survivor tends to not have a consistent sleep schedule and that way he can do a bit of crafting. I think these are some rather fine Ideas.
  4. I have considered it. For one yes it is a player mistake one that you will most of the time not stumble upon. On the other hand unless you're desperate there's no reason a sane man would drink dirty water or eat uncooked meat. So I'd propose this if you're above 25% hunger or thirst then the option to eat uncooked meat or drink unclean water simply not be available.
  5. @Joelle Emmily Yes the power of mods. Mods are great, but few games support mods for consoles. Bethesda being the only company I know.

So once you hit level 3 of fire starting you no longer require tender, and there is no benefit to using tender either. Well this leads to an over abundance of tender in the world. I don't know if this has any effect on performance or loading times, but I'm leaving loads of tender behind me as a travel. So I'd like to suggest using it as fuel like you would a stick. Just to simply get rid of it.
  7. I'm not sure all the weights in the game are quite accurate. So as always you need to weigh realism verses gameplay value.
  8. I tend to feel this "may" be a dumb idea. In my opinion it depends largely on how the game evolves. In its current state I agree with that feeling that it might make things far easier than intended. However, If one can balance out the challenge along with this mechanic I think it holds plenty of merit.
  9. So we all know moving from place to place can be gruelingly slow. Especially so if you just butchered a bear or have a large haul of fish. Well we also know our Jack of All Trades survivalist can think of clever solutions, build weapons, load ammo, mend clothes to their pristine factory condition and cook gourmet meals. Well there's one more thing I'd like our Jack to tackle. Building a sled one he could pull himself to help carry those large loads, but there's just one more thing Jack could try. Taming animals and have them pull that sled with him as a rider! Come on pups we can be friends and work together! I recommend the amount of tamed normal wolves to be 6, timber wolves to be 4, and rabbits (you know the movie) to be 18. The carnivores would need to be fed so I recommend an interactive addon as recommended in a prior thread of mine (see below) where you pick certain locations that people use as homes such as the farmhouse, jackrabbit island, gas station, mystery lake lakehouse, etc.... and have custom things you can improve in each location. In this case this would be a relatively large addon the basics would be a house they can return to and sleeping area as well as a trough to place generous amount of food. I recommend the wolves can hunt which might ruin our own meat gathering efforts if you planned to hunt near home with the timber wolves having the larger hunting radius. On the upside you may find left over carcasses on the downside because they already had their fill the meat will be little and quite a bit ruined. If rabbits are a thing I'd recommend them to be just a little slower than the character sprints. These aren't LOTR magic rabbits. On the upside you wouldn't need to feed them as they'd eat whatever it is they are eating in this winter wonderland. Their shelter would be need more furs than wood so they can stay super cozy and want to return home. They'd double as a food source so I can't really see this happening in any difficulty other than interloper where they can be a bit scarce over time. Now I'd expect the taming process for the wolves to be dangerous with a low chance of success, I HIGHLY recommend there be an associated skill with it. Something to reward you "putting yourself out there" so to speak. You know to potentially get your jugular ripped out and all. First off you'd need to dropped some food when they're after you and stay "near" as they eat. After doing this three times you would have to let the wolf approach you where it begins to growl and you can try to "pet" it...a failure results in the wolf attacking you. With rabbits I recommend a cage trap and 7-18 days to tame...however one is supposed to do that as I don't know what we're going to be feeding them. Ketchup chips maybe? Well those are the ideas let me know what you think!

I agree with the improved snow shelter Idea. Strategic placement would be key. I think a very small daily chance for them to be ruined would be good too requiring a repair cost.
  11. I only play on xbox so I doubt I will be seeing any mods, but I love the idea of a dog companion. Feeding the two of you could be challenging, also treating if/when wounded by other wildlife.
  12. It does promote camping, but that would be important. When I play games I see it in a role playing perspective. You're in the world it is constantly getting colder you need to plan for that. The choices you make determine your survival. If you need to travel you need to plan in advance. Stock up with wood, materials and food in various locations. Even in my current game play I like to at least have 0.5 liters of water stocked in each indoor location. Which has saved me so many times. As for it getting colder mechanically speaking it only happens in Interloper setting or if you play in custom game mode you can choose that. Most players would likely not benefit from the warming upgrades, but I'm sure they'd enjoy building the bases up non-the-less. I'm also not incredibly creative perhaps there can be more uses/possibilities.
  13. I'm not making this suggestion with save scumming or modding in mind neither are relevant to console players and challenges aren't challenges if you cheat them.
  14. So the world is constantly becoming a colder and more barren place. Food is getting scarce. You're constantly on the move wondering if this frozen hellscape of harsh survival will come to an end. After 1000 days almost three years since the start of the apocalypse the sky begins to clear. A couple of days later the snow begins to melt. The long winter is finally over. You made it. You survived the long dark. I would enjoy this challenge especially along with my Home Improvement suggestion (listed below). The one thing that bothers me about survival is that you can survive for a very long time and it can become monotonous. I recently played a very long campaign on Voyager only to die because I stupidly forgot to use my socks for bandages after a bear attack. I know there are players far better than I am that would love to take on this difficult challenge. Also there is something very satisfying about having a happy ending, and I think a three year survival goal would be perfect.
  15. So in one of the latest updates you can place items, I like this, but I think we can do better. Everyone loves base building in big ways and small ways and there are a few and big and small homes that people like to make their own. The Mystery Lake 2 story hut, The community center, the farmhouse, and many more. We know we can deconstruct many items in each location and loot everything, but I would like to recommend a "little" construction. Such as building an interactive box near the fireplace/stove to drop firewood into. Only firewood and preferably with a one click drop off option. I have a perhaps more complex idea where you could build something attached to the stove and adjust how much time you need when interacting and the firewood automatically gets added choosing the most efficient wood (Sticks, fir, cedar, etc) for the time. Also there's a feature in survival mode where the world constantly gets colder and I think the homes should get colder too so using skins and cloth to make curtains to improve home insulation or improve the warmth of beds would be a nice feature. Having place to plant trophies like wolf skins, deer antlers, moose antlers, etc would be a nice touch. Also instead of simply tearing down chairs, perhaps you can build one or use an existing one to study your research books in providing a bonus skill point(s). Due to the comfort you retain more information as you enjoy your reading. In my opinion these few things would be a nice touch to the game in both a gameplay aspect and role play. It would also allow a player few more goals to achieve if they get well established in an area. Before they move on.
  16. Yup. I'm aware of that possibility. It just feels like the system in place is just a bit backwards is all.
  17. @ManicManiac thanks for the suggestion I am loving the channel.
  18. So the more time you spend in the game the more feats you unlock. They're a reward for your struggles and real life exchanged. I'm fond of the feats feature. Now the longer you play and the more experienced you become the higher difficulties you want to overcome. However, as you know you can only use X number of feats dependent on difficulty with 5 on pilgrim and 2 on interloper. Don't get me wrong I understand the thinking behind this. That you want to make the game more difficult and limiting feats does do that though not nearly as significantly as the interloper settings do. So it is in my opinion that the number of feats used be inverted. With 2 on pilgrim and 5 on interloper. Which in my opinion would reward the player for the time they've invested and desire for a greater challenge most appropriately. Please do consider this and let me know what you think.

Thanks Odizzido. I figured it had to as it's a fairly obvious suggestion. It's why I'm a bit surprised that nothing along those lines have been added after all these years.

So I've been playing The Long Dark on and off for a few years now. Just got back into the swing of things after a little over a 2 years now and am stunned by the number of Quality of Life improvements. TLD has come so far. In many ways it's easier, but in every way it is engaging and beautiful and a great survival game. Now I doubt I'll be the first one to mention this and perhaps I've overlooked something, but it appears that the only ways of lighting a fire at present are the firestriker, magnifying lens, and matches. As far as i'm aware none of those are renewable resources and the idea of the game is to survive indefinitely if possible, Roleplaying-wise if that is you living as long as possible makes sense, of course the game does get dull I know if you get too comfortable in the early days I didn't need to leave the cabin for days at a time, back when there was only Mystery Lake. Regardless of that there should be means of crafting things to light a fire with. The first thing that comes to my mind is a basic hand drill. Perhaps unlocked at higher levels of firestarting.
  21. So here's my recommendation as a big fan of radio theater. A crank tape player. I don't know of that's a thing. If not then a tape player that only works during an aurora. While the music is beautiful and atmospheric Sometimes you want to sit down and read a book while waiting out a blizzard, but what if there's no light (or books since this isn't the elder scrolls, but I would love to see some). Surviving alone can take a toll on a man's sanity radio theater is a good way to pass the time. Stories to help take your mind off of the apocalypse. Canada happens to have a good library of radio theater so it shouldn't be difficult to find some good ones to use. One could also put a call out to the community to record their own stories. Even survival journals. I sincerely hope this might find its way into the game. Thanks for reading!
